Quote from: Deeping_white on May 22, 2024, 09:36:35 PMAnyone still reckon Lookman isn't good enough for us or would the few remaining doubters eat a slice of humble pie and have him back as our superstar LW?
Unfortunately it seems a few Fulham supporters judge him on that one penalty mistake.
I judged him on the whole season. Had numerous opportunities to score for us but often seemed to miskick and scuff the ball. He must have improved.

Not sure if has necessarily improved.  Had a terrific game in that final, but when he left FFC I was not disappointed.  I thought he had some nice games with FFC, but really not all that special of a player.  I don't think I'd welcome him back if it ever came to that.

Scored 30 and 16 assist in 76 games in Seeie A, including a hatrick in the europa final against an otherwise unbeaten team all year.

The guys quality and would likely have been brilliant under someone like Marco who actually knows how to utilise wingers and organise an attack. Just look at what Marco got out of Kebano for example.

Half the time for us it looked like lookman was having to make it all happen for himself because we lacked any sense of attacking direction around him.

His 3 goals yesterday were absolute top drawer against a great side.

Anyway, hopefully we find another exciting young winger to get behind but I would never turn my nose up at lookman personally.

I was in the minority of always rating Lookman. The penalty peed me off no end but he was a clear talent and someone that made things happen.

Somerset Fulham

Was he at Everton under Ancelotti but didn't cut it there?

I'm not defending Parker here, just that I don't remember Lookman looking like the player he does for Atalanta at any point, aside from that early purple patch for us.  And he used to infuriate me by ignoring Robinson's runs and cutting inside all of the time.

He is clearly realising his potential now though and does look a great footballer.

Jordan Henderson? Good god no surely not? Not seen that anywhere? The guy that said "no chance" to us famously.

Delle Ali? are you on the wind up? haha I've can't see anything googling either name thank god ha!

He was very young at Everton, shipped out at 21 (same age as Jay stansfield) and seen as a bit of a wonderkid who wasn't getting the opportunities he deserved by many Everton fans despite looking good in cameos.

Shipped out to Leipzig he did ok early on but spoke on his struggles there post everton.

Came to us and was our best attacker early on when clearly running on instinct, only to stagnate as many players did under Scott in a system devoid of...well, a clear system.

The raw ability was always there in my opinion. He looked a clear talent to me at the time and I said as much,  but I can't blame anyone for falling away or looking crap eventually at that time. I actually also recall his ignoring of Robinson at the time, but also...remember this was when Robinson couldn't cross a ball for love nor money, he wasted it when he did get it so often. It distinctly recall at the time it felt to me like Ademola was trying to do too much 1. to prove everton wrong and that he was a prem player and 2. because it seemed he was taking on himself to make things happen because no other bugger was and there seemed to be no other well thought out attacking plans.

Guys...We couldn't get Mitro scoring that season...Mitro! He looked a useless uninterested lump under Parker in the prem. Our attacking even in the champ was bailed out so many times by individuals rather than team cohesion. there were no apparent attacking patterns of play going forward it was a whole mess that I don't blame that on the players overly at that time as a result. Marco showed what many of them were capable of with the right leadership and coaching. And a number of those players have gone on to win leagues and European comps since.

Lookman now still only 26 and so in theory coming into his prime - and there he is, a hatrick scoring European cup winner. Good on him

Somerset Fulham

I think you answered the important part of my post without even mentioning it.

I had it totally wrong with regard to Everton, I thought he was there after he left us which he clearly wasn't. A quick search says that it was Leicester and not Everton.

Correct
8 goals and 5 assists in 45
Not a bad return at all

Willian this year - 5 goals 2 assists in 37 games.

Lookman started off brilliant for us but ultimately succumbed, like everyone else in the squad, to the crapness of the attacking coaching under Parker. I am delighted for him that he has become such a success at Atalanta, who are a bit Fulham-like in Italian terms. If he does move from there it would likely be to a bigger club than us, and I'm not sure it would be the right move for him, as he has clearly thrived in Bergamo.

After his season at Forest, our need for LW & our rumoured interest last summer, from BBC,

"Nottingham Forest are under pressure to sell players before 30 June to comply with Profit and Sustainability regulations - and avoid the carnage they got themselves embroiled in this season.

Hudson-Odoi is a saleable asset but I have been told Tottenham are not one the clubs looking to sign him."

God, I'd love Iwoniyi. Been such a nice option up top to compete with Muniz and Jimenez.

Elanga is the one I'd want from Forest.

I like Iwoniyi but I think they'd ask too much for him and he is a marginal upgrade over Muniz at most. Think someone like Adebayo from Luton offers similar but would be much cheaper.

Adebayo was a dominant CB for our youth teams before switching full-time to striker when he turned 18... Just saying lol two birds with one stone.

You mean Calvin

And Issa, Ange and Mikel in that case

That's being silly, we all knnow their first names. The point is that he is either Bassey or Calvin but his name is not Shirley.
Now try telling us fans that Gordon Davis's name wasn't Ivor
Bit different isn't it? I suggest there's a difference between nicknames and changing someone's gender!

Going off topic here, but come on Twig - just give it a break. No one is trying to change Bassey's gender - it's a forum nickname that is being used jokingly and without any malice. I may be wrong, but don't remember you and the other members that complained about Bassey's nicknname complaining when Mitrovic was called "Metro" and "The Mercenary", nor any comments about converting someone to a bank or an underground station.

Agree, if it was totally about money he would have stayed at Arse and if memory serves me didn't he leave a lot of money on the table when he left Brazil. However, after his end of season i'm not fussed whether he stays or goes. I think he's possibly going to drop off a cliff form wise.

Someone on TIFF said our main targets are Gabriel Sara, Elijah Adebayo, Pablo Maia, Trevor Chalobah and Jaden Philogene. True or not all of those would be sensible transfers.

Fine, at the end of the day if people actually find it witty so be it.  For reasons I won't bore you with I guess a similar logic could be used to have nicknamed me Olive. I have to admit that as a young man I wouldn't have found that funny but perhaps it's just me.

Don't know who Pilogene is but the other targets are (or could be) mid-table PL quality or better so that's good.

Jaden Philogene, a left winger from Hull, an ex Villa youngster, had a very good season in the Championship.
