i think Pereira is staying

Interesting after his previous interviews in the summer. Does appear in this focussed on what's ahead this season, presumably been told we aren't looking/willing to sell him at this point.

As ever huge plaudits for Marco, probably our greatest acquisition of them all and really hope he sticks around for a long time to come. Hopefully adding those that were reportedly close to will help us dream of pushing on and competing with that West Ham/Brighton/Villa pack in that top 10, maybe nick a a European place type bunch. Perieras's words far more outwardly aiming at that than the more conservative Leno and our assistant coaches.

And another glowing report of Muniz and his character. I really love this kid, he's so damn likeable I really hope he steps up a level this year. If he does I've not doubt he'll be subject to a massive bid next summer but hope we can hold on to him if we start pushing up the league.
Excited to get this quality on the door and get buzzing for the season ahead

Who are the three? Esr, Cuenca and André?
that's where I think we are.

How come people are so confident that we're about to sign Andre? I don't really see any of the usual suspects talking about it online.

Quote from: Somerset Fulham on August 01, 2024, 11:55:03 PMI have five United supporting pals (two of which are lower level sports journalists) and they are surprised that McT isn't going to a newly promoted side.

Good, honest pro who could work wonders in a changing room but ultimately quite limited.  That said, they also said that United fans love him.

Just had a slightly deeper look into Mctominay's career stats and interestingly he's largely been played by Man Utd as a defensive midfielder and done well in that position. Last season was the season he played the most as a CM and not a DM and his output for scoring went up considerably. He played around 32 games with what seems like a relatively even split across DM and CM, scoring 1 goal from DM and 6 from CM. He scored those 6 goals from 16 games as a CM.

Interestingly, he hardly if ever scores when playing as an AM or SS.

He's played as a DM against quite a few big clubs and with Utd winning those games on the PL and also CL.

Having gone through his stats, I'm actually more in favour of us signing him then I was before. Especially if Marco brings him in and plays him as a CM, which despite playing DM most of the time, does seem to be a better position for him tactically output wise. It also kinda speaks truth to what utd fans have said, but also dismisses what they've said too, as he must've done quite a bit of the defensive work they say he doesn't do to have played DM for utd for so long and for them to also get results against top clubs, - man city, Barcelona, ac Milan etc..

At 27, it feels like we may have approached him under the appreciation that he's got a lot more to offer as a CM and that he hasn't been fully utilised or given the opportunity as a CM, and perhaps Marco and his team think we can get him, play him there and take his game to another level.

If he scored 6 goals from CM and 1 from DM split over equal number of games, then over a season and in a settled role, you could be looking at a 12-15 goal a season player, almost double his current output.

Chuck in andré to support him and ESR/iwobi to pass the odd ball from the sides to the edge of the area, then we could be onto something.

His stats can be found below.

https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/scott-mctominay/leistungsdaten/spieler/315969/plus/0?saison=2023

Yeah I looked at all this as well and read a tonne of United comments as well as speaking to my United mates.

Re him scoring a lot more from CM than AM one Man U fan made a very shrewd observation that he arrives in the box late so isn't picked up. Just watching his highlights reels you can see this. Always picked up as AM so a reason for struggling to score from there. This video actually argues against this and says he should be a 10 but highlights the intelligent runs and finishes for his goals. Shows what a threat he can be in the air as well. Scotland do play him higher and he has scored a lot for them from a 10 so shows this could be an option if needed.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Wk4-NPr3eiA

His passing stats aren't great. He has a lower pass completion than Reed and Lukic and lower progressive passing than both as well. It is his shorter passing that lets him down. He actually has a much better longer pass completion rate than Reed and Lukic. If next to Andre it could be argued he won't need much passing range as Andre with ridiculous passing stats will do most of the work here.

Ball carrying pretty similar to Reed and Lukic and same with defensive stats. I think most think Reed and Lukic feel they are pretty good defensively so no issue with similar stats. Man U prob dominate possession more as well so naturally lower. Really good point from General re him playing DM against some of the biggest teams in Europe and doing well. Can't be as bad defensively as some Man U fans are making out.

Man U fan comments seem to be very mixed from useless to very good. Many say he can't pass or defend. I'd say overall they are way more positive about him than they were about AP. My Man U mates laughed at me when we bought AP. Whose laughing now when there is talk of him going for over double what we paid for him. McT has played in an absolute shambles club for years. Like AP I think Marco can improve him dramatically and get the best out of him and he'll hopefully add much needed goals. If we can do this for £25m I think it's a great deal and looking more and more promising this.

That Pereira interview is class. Really good read

There have been a few rumours that we will increase our offer.

I think the bigger things are that everything suggests that they have to sell him as they are in financial difficulty. As we are the only club interested at this point there is an assumption that this will happen at some point. I believe one of the more trusted journalists over there has said this.

He was completely left out of their squad for last nights game and didn't even travel. Not injured. Only a cup game so suggestions he could have been rested but very strange for him not to travel.

Add to this his replacement had a medical there yesterday and suggestions are they couldn't afford him unless Andre goes.

They have t announced him yet on their twitter page from what I can see but assuming that may be today unless they are as useless as us at getting it out!

 :slap:

All conjecture then but a lot potentially adding up. With this deal however 2+2 always seems to = 5 so we'll see.

Don't understand the benefit to the club here from a PR perspective. Surely it makes sense to have three separate announcements and drum up PR in each of those, rather than bundling them all together?

My thinking too. ESR is a much bigger statement signing than Cuenca and I can't imagine why you would bundle him in to it. Plus the bundle announcements tend to be on deadline day.

Unsure this one has legs - doesn't fit the transfer strategy this window. Wouldn't mind being proved wrong.

I've seen a few comments re Andre going cold.  Andre is going to happen, very confident of that. We are playing the long game with him and FLU need to sell due to their financial situation.

Mctom is a steal at 25, we should (and are) all over him at that price. Future captain material.

I'm thinking Marco really believes in the club and his ambitions to push us into European tournaments.

Not sure what to make of this one. Just been reading there forum. Sounds like he had some absolute stormers against Arsenal and City but was then pretty dreadful in other games. They say he can spray beautiful long passes about but then can put the team in trouble with hospital short passes. Basically Tosin then!! Sounds like a player in there then but been very inconsistent for them. Lots of comments re useless defending set pieces which is a concern having lost Tosin and Joao.

All in all then if Marco can get him consistently putting in performances sounds like he could be better than Diop.

Prob is I just can't see how we can get any value here.

From one of their fans:

Signed for £26m 2 years ago on a 4 year contract so his book value is £13m. I'm sure Fulham can afford that

£13m for a 31 year old with £100k a week wages? It's the wages that really kill it. If it was £10m to £13m on £50k a week you'd maybe take a punt. I suppose if Villa were desperate to get the wages off the books they might loan him but we look like we are trying to build long term perm solutions this year. As Serbian Lad has pointed out various issues with all RCB s rumoured so far so a difficult one.

I think people under rate diop tbh.

Should be coming into his prime at 27 and I feel he only got dropped because we were trying to convince Tosin to sign a new contract.

He Makes the occasional headline mess up for sure but lots of CBs do, and Tosin seemed to do 1 or 2 a game. Hes tall and physical and Im still hopeful we see the best of him. I think there are smarter CBs out there but I hope he gets a chance to fight for the RCB spot

In this instance, I think it may. They only announced the away shirt yesterday, why take it down. Its a semi significant post in and of itself and commercial too.

It doesnt generally happen by accident tbf.

Presumably making way to pin a different post along with a banner perhaps (like they did for sess when he signed and now the away kit)

Villa owe us several favours anyway since we got rid of Gerrard for them, and apparently forced an ownership change that benefitted them by beating them in the playoff final, so that sounds like at least 50% off to me!
