As far as I'm aware the André deal isn't done. Fluminense want a big chunk upfront and Fulham so far haven't been willing to do it.

There can be many things to sort out, especially dealing with a South American club and how player "ownership" and agents operate but by now you would think this has been settled.

Fluminense demanding more up front seems the most likely issue holding everything up.

At what point do we just give up on this bloke, if we haven't already?

I am starting to really struggle with this one.

Almost all the reports for a few weeks now have been fairly consistent on the fundamentals, that the player is open to a move, personal terms are agreed, and Fulham and Fluminense are haggling over a price somewhere between 20m and 30m. We're assuming they'll lower their demands if we wait it out. That being the case, surely walking away isn't an option. Are we really going to sign a lesser player (and let's be clear, if we've been after this guy for two seasons now, clearly he's our preferred choice) for the sake of a few million? That would be terrible business. I think the only outcomes here are (a) they blink first and accept our offer or (b) we blink first and pay their ask.

Fair points although I have my concerns about how good he actually is if pretty much nobody else is interested (I know that Liverpool were apparently) in him despite this being a very public negotiation. But that is probably my own insecurities playing up a bit.

I hope you're right and I hope the lad is worth it but at the same time, we are seemingly wasting a lot of energy on this.

You could've said the same about Palhinha, he flew under the radar until we signed him.

I'm bored of it too, and think with andré in particular, if the difference is just 5m, we should agree to it.

I appreciate that is £4m and will play into our ability to buy other players etc, but I think in his instance its worth it. Not only because he's very talented, but because we need him in the squad, his abilities complement our team very well, plus he needs time to adjust.

I don't mind if that means we have to be more patient with Mctominay, or find an alternative to Mctominay.

Have a look at Andre's highlights and tell me he's not a player we need.

In addition to that, he's showing this ability and he's only 23. Sign him on a 5/6 year deal and I think he'll be worth a lot more long term plus we'll get some good years out of a player who is very good at the moment and under silva will only get better.

In fairness to Fabio, he's having a good pre season for Liverpool and getting minutes so I doubt Liverpool are really entertaining much and will give him next season. Scored a few goals and assisted including making players like Casemiro look silly.

Andre,he played CL against Man City and didn't show up well in those games in the year that man city didn't make the final.So he may not work out in the PL.

Andre,he played CL against Man City and didn't show up well in those games in the year that man city didn't make the final.So he may not work out in the PL.

I already addressed this point in another post. Fluminense didn't play poorly in that game and were evenly placed in terms of possession. Fluminense just didn't do very well up front. A lot of Teams get put to the sword by Man City and Man City were only two nil up in the 70th minute, with one goal coming in the 1st minute.

There are some videos circulating of Fluminense playing out from the back and playing around Man city's press with relative ease.

Think it'd be wrong to make that assumption based on one game, especially when that game is the club world cup final, which to get to you have to win your regions equivalent of the champions league and then beat the other teams to get to the final.

I suppose the concern is that we sign another Seri. £25m, plenty of potential, but needs too much time on the ball, a few seasons to adjust etc.

Not that that would be a bad project given he's young at 23. Much like Muniz things don't have to take off from game 1. However.. Muniz was what, £5m? £25m is a big chunk of the Palhinha money and we need a replacement in DM.
Re: the difference between £20m and £25m and the idea of just paying it.. I suppose the extra £5m could be the difference between eg Stansfield leaving?

He is far from the first youngster to have this happened to him. Actually he is not even the first Fulham youngsters. If young footballers shouldve learned from this then surely Carvalho would have learned from Pat Roberts, but unfortunately thats not how footballers (or youngsters even) go about things

Exactly - most on here saw this happening a mile off when the talk of him leaving first emerged. A greedy agent got in his ear, sold him a dream, and has seriously hampered his blossoming career for a quick buck.

Hopefully Fab is able to get the minutes he now needs. I'd happily have him back here in a heartbeat, and don't think £20m (inc add ons) is a silly number in the current market.

If they were attempting to buy a similar player from a championship club the price tag would probably be around £20 million. He showed that he is a real talent during the season with us and during the loan with Hull.

correct 20 million can be classed a snip.
