Patiently waiting to see who gets announced first.

Maybe a double announcement on the front cover of Saturday's match day programme?

Quote from: Luka on August 21, 2024, 12:49:18 PMI'm liking all our signings so far and we have strength in most areas with the exception of striker.
I struggle to believe that Marco has total faith in Muniz and Jimenez so hoping for a surprise arrival in a striker role.

Absolutely

Yep, I'm with you both on this.

Sterling will be let go on loan, the problem is his wages. He's on well over £300k a week. I don't think he suits a Silva team either, lots of quality obviously, but turns the ball over all the time, which would be a nightmare for us.

Quote from: Bassey the warrior on August 21, 2024, 10:18:58 AMWe turned down a £4m bid from Wolves for Reed last summer, that was off the back of him being a regular.
But I think everyone agree that offer was absolutely ridiculous? Look at how much we paid for Andersen who is only a year younger. Granted you could say he's a better player and was more important to Palace than Reed is to us, but Reed is also homegrown. 15 million seems like a sensible amount to demand for Reed. I'm sure there'd be interest from some clubs.
While I agree the market is absurd, with Skipp going for 25 a perfect example, lets be realistic. I agreed with you on the Periera valuation, but Reed's a 29 year old Championship quality player. Winks went at 27 to Leicester for £10m last Summer. That is about the right comparison, so you're talking c£7-8m max.

Though as I said, we should have bought Berge last year for 12, and sold Reed for 6.

Rutzler says we have submitted a 12m bid for Cherki

Great stuff if we can get him for that price, defo the type of player we would sell for 50m in a few years if they do well. Really rate him and only 21

Taking a small step out of the stress inducing Andre saga, this has really made me laugh.

Whatever will they do for Berge off?

Quote from: jayffc on August 21, 2024, 12:28:19 PMrevisiting "that" interview - whilst he doesn't rule out more than 3 explicitly he does state those 3 is what "has to come".

It certainly does appear he says that "we are going to sign one player for that position (6) with the..." (goes to say "same" but corrects to say...)  "...the profile that we are looking for to replace Joao"...

So I guess it's a matter of waiting to hear what Marco says about Berge and for now assuming that - especially given his "profile" that he sees him as that layer - till we hear different. Signs currently point to that being the case from what he's said so far...now we wait for more info I guess. For now I'd only look at Andre as an outside bonus should it materialise unless we hear something to the contrary directly.

It's interesting, watching it back to me it could infer that we were looking to sign a number 6 to replace joao.. then he says 'we are going to sign one player for that position .. then he said and 'yesterday I said as well, a central defender and midfielder clear has to come...'

To me he speaks decent/good english, but clearly broken grammatically.. It could quite easily be a DM comment, followed by reiterating what he also believes is needed... or it could be that the DM was the midfielder are them... the as well and separating the conversation from his interview with Carragher with the comments made the previous day leaves it quite open ended in my view.. who knows.

I would think Villa has more money to offer than us, and he's too costly for them so can't see us getting Sterling.

If we were going to spend huge money on an attacking player, I'd much rather it be someone we can get on a permanent transfer. Chiesa or Depay would be ideal, but obviously highly unlikely (I think Sterling is equally unlikely too though).

Out of the loan options, Richarlison would be the best option for me. He was Marco's most important player at both Watford and Everton, covers all positions in attack and he loves Marco.

I heard Sterling's on 350k per week at Chelski. Cherki is really highly rated I think. Don't have much hope of that one either but hopefully Marco can do his thing and convince him to be part of the project.

@jolslover

Cherki was a mainstay in the French olympic squad (u23s) under Henry. A great video here showing some of his finishes in training that was going viral

He's 21? - saw a highlight reel on youtube and he looked very handy.. wonder why they seem keen to get rid of him?
Contract is up in a year so that probably is playing a role.

Cherki is a strange player, a bit of a futsal type one. Great in tight spaces, hugely technical. But is often incredibly lazy and apparently has a bit of an attitude problem. Many managers have struggled to get a tune out of him despite the talent being undoubtedly there. Didn't feature much in the Olympic run this summer.

Cherki is an unbelievable talent but also a maverick. v high ceiling. lets see.

Marco Silva is a man manager, if Marco wants him then I would back him to get the most out of the player.

That would be the hope. It was reported in L'equipe a few days ago that Cherki wasn't interested in joining us or Palace, and would wait to see if a move to PSG materialises. Let's see what happens.

Seems to be the case - kind of like a better version of Taraabt...

He played in 33 games last season for OL, circa 12 times he played over 70 minutes, only completing 90 5 times, and getting in a good 80 minutes 3 times... He had 7 g/a throughout the season, averaging 52 minutes across each game.

The weird thing here though is that he plays more as an AM, and then his second favoured position, which is also the one he's most productive in is at RW, which we don't really need a player in.

So my concerns are his attitude, there's little doubting he's got potential given his age and what he's done so far.. but also the concern of his best positions being ones we've got the players for..

More than anything we need a LW option.. which Iwobi is filling in for at the moment, but isn't his strongest position..

Cherki has played a few games for Lyon at LW. I think if we got him then ESR would likely move to LW but quite handy that Iwobi, ESR and Cherki can all interchange in the front 3

He can play across the front - also means you can interchange him, Iwobi and ESR across the 3 forward positions. I would suggest he might play more central with ESR drifting out onto the left, but the fact we've bid for him twice this year suggests Marco sees something in him to benefit our way of playing. Certainly adds to the goal threat from wide areas anyways

Yeah it's a good summary General - kind of like a Taarabt. I expect I'll get a lot of criticism for saying this but he's the kind of player that people who haven't seem him think is quite a lot better than he actually is. Certainly has a 'high ceiling' - but it's being seen so rarely/occasionally. I think he is positionally flexible but plays typically in a 10 position.

I've followed Lyon for a while as a second team, not often watching full games - but occasionally. The fanbase find him frustrating and divisive I think it would be fair to say.

I'd be excited but also slightly cautious about getting carried away if we were to get him. Sure he would be quite fun to watch at times though.
