Quote from: bill taylors apprentice on August 22, 2024, 11:32:46 AMPalhinha only became a statement signing and a key player for us once he started playing and performed beyoned what the vast majority expected.

Or is that wrong?

That's wrong, he was a Champions League player. That's always a coup. I liked him from the first friendly game.

All I'm saying is, there are many CL players that are not known by the majority of football fans, even the knowledgeable ones.
He would have been unknown by the vast majority of FFC fans before he arrived or at least not know how good he could be, therefore it's reasonable to say he wasn't seen as a statement signing.

Of course, once we all saw him he was very highly regarded and we couldn't believe how good he was but how many fans expected it.

That's true, I didn't know him to be fair.

Widely reported that he doesn't want to be a Fulham player, so stroll on.

🚨🆕 #TransferNews 🇫🇷
Fulham has reached an agreement with Lyon to sign 21-year-old French player Rayan Cherki for a fee of £12.7 million, with an additional £4 million in add-ons.

⌛However, Cherki has informed Lyon's directors that he is not keen on moving to Fulham. Despite this, Fulham is continuing discussions to persuade the young talent.

👀 PSG and Borussia Dortmund remain interested in the player, which could influence his decision.

Sounds like he hasn't fully rejected us and will wait to see if a bigger club will come in before the deadline. He's a huge talent at an extremely reasonable price so I don't really mind not being his first choice if he ends up here.

No doubt we are also lining up other options while we wait.

worth noting this is from Ekrem Konur who many consider a bit of a hack...he's just parroting whats been reported already... many others seem to have ruled out PSG and Dortmund already saying they're no longer looking at him. We shall see how this one plays out but if you were a player and those 2 had been interested at some point this summer, wouldn't you hold out another week to see what came your way?

We're not in a desperate rush to bring in another attacker behind the strikers so this is one where I think we can play it out till the end of the window. Cherki is certainly a talent with a high ceiling if we can get him there. I don't mind him being ambitious and exploring his options for now, perhaps Marco can work with him on selling the vision. I'd hope there was some top attacking talent out there interested, and it's already been reported we're exploring other options already...but in the meantime no harm in letting this offer sit whilst we do so.

Jay & BT, you are being far too reasonable and clear-thinking in your response to this...

Assuming the Andersen deal goes through, how many signings (and outgoings) do you think we can expect?

I think an attacker of some form. I assume winger, but a versatile player across the front 3 would be useful if we worry about muniz and raul getting goals.

Shame would still like Andre too but I think that ones dead, despite now fluminense needing to sell

Wouldn't surprise me if Cairney leaves or goes out on loan for season! Will Wilson be surplus? Hopefully not as he is technically superior to anyone we have who plays on right wing? Possibly a couple of the younger players go out on loan?

Lighthouse

Well possibly one or two more to come in after Anderson. Players going out. Well I can see one first team player going and a few kids out on loan.
The above IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. It is an opinion.

We may yet hear the horse talk.

I can stand my own despair but not others hope

Can't see Cairney going anywhere, he's Mr Fulham now, he will want to retire here and imagine we might well let him even if he starts to become more and more a bit part player. He's a part of the furniture and happy to play his part off the bench when called upon, when he does come on he still has been offering something useful.

For me I think it'll be kids on loan only and 1 more in after Joachim up top and we call it a day. Unless someone randomly decides to lump 20m on Reed and we give Fluminese a call again haha. But sadly, that's our lot I think and I think probably sensible. Keep some in the tank for January or further improvements if and when we need them going forwards to build on whatever we can achieve this year. Think we've improved the squad as a whole and got younger, now we see what Marco can do.

1-2. I think it's clear Marco wants a front line option. Cherki bid being in I think proves this.

The next is whether there's enough going on for a player to get unsettled, or for us to want a player in enough to try and send one out on loan or permanently (e.g. André in and one of our CM/DMs head out).

We may not need to send someone out to afford an extra signing in DM/CM, but aside from a front line option, with left wing being the most obvious option, that'd be the next given the andré chat.

Marco said in his Bein sports interview 'a minimum of 3' and gave the positions. So for the minimum the attacking player is the 3rd. I suspect we do still have decent FFP room. The good thing is we have got ourselves in such a good position we can just see if a brilliant deal comes up for a 4th after we sign this attacker and if not so be it.

Does look like Andre is highly unlikely but if Fluminese had no other takers for example and in desperation to make money offered him for £15 million would we say no? Prob not.

Suspect there may be a bargain that comes up for a 4th somewhere. Also note not a single loan taken. A loan with a decent option could come up. Wouldn't be surprised if just one more attacker but Tony is bound to be sniffing out a bargain for a 4th and by the sounds of it with the 'minimum of 3' comment Marco would be keen for more if the right deal as well.

Why is everyone so keen for us not to have a 25 man squad?

Would be interesting, but imagine would need to get rid of one or two players. Think one is more likely.

I really wanted André in addition to Berge, but that's seemingly off now

MickyAdamsFamily

I'll be super annoyed if Andre ends up at Forest. Nuno will poach him now, I bet.
Would've been amazing to get him & Berge anchoring the midfield, but I can't imagine we'd spend that much on both. I'd reckon that would mean Lukic or Reed would then be sold/loaned out, but it would be a huge outlay...
