Quote from: General on August 24, 2024, 08:15:16 PMI just looked at IloveFFC's historical posts and the one he quotes this says the exact same quote as I shared with the needing a last piece for the wings and back line.. Perhaps you can find it for me so I can see?

The sky sports site is where the quote originally comes from. Tis odd.
Looked it back, mea culpa. I didn't realise at first the last part was his thoughts and not a part of Marco's quote.
Still, everything to me points to that being either a misquote or a mistake Marco made. His comments at yesterday's press conference made it seem like he was adamant that only one player will come.

P.S. Even if the quote is right, back line is the defence, not the defensive midfielder. Even goalkeeper is a position that is more commonly associated to the back line than the defensive midfielder. I just can't see us signing a dm and @FFC1987 explained all of it well.

Three Fulham fans are claiming that they bumped into Steven Bergwijn today at the cottage.. (see comments for other fans)

Apparently he was linked with Leicester earlier this window and Ajax have put a £15m price tag on him..

Some stats and comparisons below.. got 16 g/a in 24 games in the league last season for Ajax.

Wouldn't mind him tbh.

My mate who is a big Ajax fan doesn't rate him at all. Hoping he's not who we go for.

Did he say why?

Don't know if we're in for him, but he ticks a lot of the boxes we seem to have been looking for..

26, plays LW, could be considered mature - has played for big clubs, been a dutch international and last season Captained Ajax, played in the Europa League..

Apparently in his last season at spurs he was played, when he played at RW, but you're going back to 2020/2021 for those stats, he's played at Ajax since then. Question marks over his effectiveness in the PL would be there.  But maybe we're his level? Willian was written off, many have been and resurrected their careers with us.

He'd be 27 in Oct, so was 23 going on 24 when he left spurs.

Let's not forget that most Ajax fans wanted to drive Bassey over to us, such was their contempt for him...

I'm torn on Bergwijn. On the one hand, we've had some great Dutch wingers in the past (eg Urby Emmanuelson and Ryan Babel), and Steven seems to be of a similar ilk. On the other hand, I don't think I've ever seen him track back and I'm concerned that he'd leave Jedi pretty exposed defensively.

I'll try get a bit more information on Bergwijn. One note is that it's pretty uncommon for an incoming player to be spotted at a ground and then go onto sign without rumours etc. Remember we all assumed something similar after Gnonto was spotted last season.

Apparently he's good friends with Kenny, and had links with Leicester too.

Yeah I think it was most likely that he was in London for his weekend off and went out to see a game/see Kenny.

my brother saw him at the game today and asked if he was coming to fulham. He smiled and said that he cannot answer that right now. ::wink::

Let's see... I wouldn't mind Bergwyin at Fulham as always thought he was a decent player.

On Bergwijn - Ajax pal says:

- Ajax need the money, not sold a player this summer
- "We're stuck on the transfer market and Bergwijn told he wanted to leave, he never really worked hard, not a favourite, not stepping up as our biggest purchase ever, failed as a captain in hard times"
- "he can be dangerous and quick. but he's lazy"

Agree his record looks alright, albeit it's Eredivisie. Some players have done better recently after leaving Ajax (Mikautadze, Bassey), so maybe it could work.

Sigh... Alright lets do another one then 😂

Given their opinion on Bassey i'd eserve judgment till we see him if he came

Are we really arguing about what a man who's second language it is might or might not have said or meant?

Really?

Our fans have a massively unhealthy habit of speculating on imperfect information and reading between manager lines.

In fairness lads, its literally what social emdia, namely Twitter, is built on and isn;t just Fulham, or football that are addicted to this stuff  :slap:

Besides Somerset, we won today, what else can we have a moan about tonight!

For what its worth, best mate is a Spurs STH'er and loved him at Spurs but said he was held back and just didn;t fit in Conte Ball so was shipped out. So who knows, could be a decent acquisition.

I remember his debut for Spurs vs Man City when he scored and was MOTM too. I'm sure Marco would get him performing at a good level regularly.

Decent assessment. He was in the starting 11 a good amount while there but never seemed to quite settle.

I'd prefer others as he seemed to be injured alot at Spurs, but he would certainly add quality to the wings. At 15 million he would fit in the right price range as well.

Really impressive highlights reel that, I know these don't always show the full picture. But looks to have great technique.

Lol - it's only unhealthy if you're emotionally caught up in it and it affects your mood in a negative way and playing mind games with yourself about it..

Playing around with and speculating on imperfect information is all fans tend to have and do.

I enjoy speculating, I enjoy trying to figure things out, getting things right and wrong.. I find it fascinating people are so hard and fast on these things with themselves. There's nothing wrong with engaging with them..

You're going to potentially get stuck in yourself if you don't show a bit of curiosity from time to time and are not ok with 'risking' being wrong.. (when I say you're, I mean in the broadest sense of the word - referring to a group at large, not you individually).

P.s someone on socials said they knew a family that worked in football and stated they knew for a fact that Bergwijn was apparently being touted around London clubs this summer.

They said this before someone on here mentioned that Ajax were having transfer/financial difficulty..

LC

I just saw this at skysports website:

'Fulham boss Marco Silva after his side's 2-1 home win over Leicester:
"No one is close to coming tomorrow, but there are still five or six days left, we are working very hard with board, we lost some big players last summer, group captains and we have to be strong
"It has been a very good market and now we need the last piece for the wide areas and back line."'

I thought we were only going after one forward player but it looks like he still wants more defensive cover- whether that's someone in defence or a defensive midfielder I don't know.
