Cool, not completely useless but certainly the last choice of the options linked on the table recently.

Interesting that we never went back in for Bruun Larsen by the way given were still hunting for a versatile attacker... not that I desperately wanted him. More LW than all the right sided players we've been linked to so perhaps that's why it quietened down having brought in ESR. Or of course perhaps that story was b.s all along

Sounds like there is some actual interest there in the young CB. Surprising one that.
Look at us doing a Bayern with a potential late bid unsettling the player but with little time for them to sort out a replacement.

Maybe this is one to keep an eye on in future windows

I wonder if Diop is sick of being second choice and is trying to move on...

Would make sense to have a younger/cheaper backup to Andersen.

Or Silva is sick of his passing and wants to line up another option (saw him throwing his arms about at one or 2 of them in the Man Utd game).
I'm happy enough with Diop as backup and think this would be harsh on him after a decent start to the season.

But - this kid is supposed to be looking very promising. Could see us purchasing with a view to him staying there on loan for the year. Then we sell Diop next summer. Would be one way to get around them not having to replace him in the next 48 hours

Quote from: Angus Telford on August 29, 2024, 03:18:14 PMWould like that signing but all Carrick says in that interview is 'there's always rumours which largely doesn't seem to be true [sic]' so sounds like this one is BS

I'd say it's hard to know either way from his statement but the fact its ambiguously answered makes me lean that there is interest...how concrete it is is another thing

He doesnt exactly say outright he's not aware of interest and this story isn't true.

He says when asked directly about the player specifically and if he's concerned - "listen when ya got good players there's always noise there's always rumours - some are true - largely they don't seem to be true, so , concerns not the word but were certainly aware of what the possibilities can be in the position were in"

Doesnt to me suggest outright b.s as one could just rule it out or say ya weren't aware of specific clubs interest but he's chosen to be vague, one can speculate why of course either way. I'd be surprised if it happened but certainly happy if it came off out the blue.

Silva still saying only one piece of the puzzle and that's a wide attacker - and doesn't want anyone else out... so not expecting this one to come off.
One I'll certainly be filing as on potentially on our radar for future windows

Do we have two load spots still open, I'd expect to fill both of them and then still have money in the bank come January

Super Mick

If Vinicius leaves surely we'll be in for another forward?

Just because we can doesn't mean we will or should I guess. It's still money spent on wages.

We've had a hard time choosing who should fall off the bench as things stand. If it happens great but again Silva has come out in his press conference and said the last piece of the puzzle is a wing forward.

As for Vini heading out - his place has already been filled by the return of Stansfield

I'd take him back on a wages only loan with a 15-20m buy option just to add depth but doubt he or Chelsea would go for that.

We spent 4m on him last time and he barely kicked a ball or looked interested.....did that teach us nothing?

That's why I said wages only. Just having 2 strikers makes me nervous. Stansfield can play there but I think he's too lightweight for the way Marco wants to play. For just wages he'd be a cheap depth option. Also Raul has not looked great so far.

Quote from: hopper on August 29, 2024, 12:04:47 AMOne gripe I have with our recruitment is that we don't bring in players as an understudy who could succeed a player like Joao while they're still here, or even before selling.

This is a really good point and highlights serious flaws in our recruitment ever since the khans came in. Silva also has a challenge in that he doesn't seem to give mins to young players really

Not so easy to do when we were newly promoted as the onus is to strengthen the starting XI in order to stay up rather than find players to understudy the ones you already have.

With the experienced players who have departed this summer, it doesn't surprise me that Marco has looked to the likes of Berge and Andersen. These are not players whose performance levels are likely to decline within a year or two; their ability and their experience should serve the starting XI well for a few seasons at least. And their presence will, in my opinion, make it easier to now introduce younger players without sliding down the table. I expect next summer will see us targeting more younger players and fewer, if any, who are already at their peak. If so, then it would be seen that our strategy to reduce the average age of the playing squad is actually a sensible two-year plan. That's my guess.

I think that's an overly simple way of looking at it and mid - long term is bad for our finances and bad for our chances of staying up. I'm also talking about generally over the last decade, not just the last 2 years

If anything is overly simple, it's your reply. You neither say why you think my reply to be overly simple nor why my guess as to our strategy across this summer and next is bad for both our finances and our chances of staying up.

I don't wish to quibble with you as to how much better the Club might have done in the early years of our Chairman's ownership, but the fact is, in three of the past seven summers, we've gone into the transfer market as a newly promoted club in the P.L. I made a guess as to what the Club might already be planning for next summer because the present and future matter more than the past. In the absence of any explanation as to why my conjectures are too simplistic and financially unsound and increase the likelihood of our being relegated, I reject these assertions entirely.

I agree about being nervous with only two strikers, I don't think Broja, whose deal just collapsed for Ipswich Town, and who failed and cost us quite a lot last year is the answer to that. If we went for him on a similar which, lets face it, Chelsea will want, i'd be more nervous about what options the club have to be honest. Silva wasn;t very flattering on him in some pressers as well.

Also don't see any world in which Broja would even want to come back here having had next to zero minutes for us in 6months.
He openly has said he'd have been better off staying at Chelse and it was a waste of his time. I can not believe that he would consider coming back on loan for a year therefore and so this ones a non starter for me suspect he'll go out on loan in Europe .

We now have Stansfield who did well at Brum and got off the mark in the cup already- Marco is backing him to play a part having been working with him in pre season. Muniz is Marcos signing directly and someone who he's had faith in for a long time. Hopefully he proves why people are wrong to be writing off or worrying about his abilities and wether he himself is scoring endless goals or not, hopefully were picking up wins as a team and attacking better around him too.

Sammyffc

you think Broja wants to come back to a club which literally didn't play him?  :slap:

Further confirmation where it isn't really needed that we're looking for a wide attacker and that's seemingly it

"the position"

hovewhite

In defense of Muniz his all round play is very good and think Goals will come.

Craven Mad

Broja's influence on our squad was unparalleled!

Just having him on the bench turned Muniz into a superstar - best £4m we ever spent  :slap:

If he can have the same impact again, I'd have him back in a heartbeat!
