Jay Stansfield is a decent young player with along way to go to be anywhere near making an impact in the top flight. He has talent ,good attitude and ability ,none of which guarantees anything. He need the backing of Marco to start matches ,and the luck to get the chance and play well when he gets it. I hope he makes it -
but to be preferred by some to be in front of Raul Jimenez is just plain silly .

Jay needs playing time at as high a level as possible to take the next step. He. has a chance ,but better players that him have failed to make the grade.

I'd be up for this, if he can stay fit, though if it were between him and reiss nelson then it'd be reiss all day.

Edouard is a striker no? This seems like it'd be in addition to a wide player

Reiss is off the table unless arsenal can find a winger so not an option seemingly
interesting this, are we going to sell Stanfield and palace supplying us there striker as Marco said any player being sold a replacement comes in.

Click through the source - it looks like complete made up rubbish from a nothing account after all that 😅

P.s King starts in the U21s today so probably wont be in squad tomorrow.

Plenty other comments online out there countering and saying he's a talent etc that had a Mixed season from what I can see, but he's only 20 and clearly has physical attributes we can work with. Put him in with Marco and see what we can do with him - His raw pace and control on the ball look great.

Agree with Angus on this one. We have plenty experienced players in the squad to take punts in some positions on raw talents with a lot of potential upside. A Nice blend of current talent and future potential in the squad.

I watch lots of Lyon games - they're my second team, and found him quite unproductive and disappointing last season. Also why assume that that was based on a youtube comment?

As mentioned in previous comments, not saying he would necessarily be a bad signing as apparently was great before in Denmark - but yes he did have a very poor season last year.

Just to remind everyone, we have 22 first team players and can add 3 more (max 25 PL squad) not including under 21 players like King.

We have 2 players for each position from goalkeepers right through the team.
These are not perfectly like for like e.g. no pure LW and only one traditional CF but several who can play there.

So, it's a LW purchase and a CF on loan IMO but if not we are covered in all positions and in a better state than this time last season.

Quote from: LRCN on August 30, 2024, 01:55:56 PMLyon fella the type of player we should be going for. V high upside. For 15m is a + value bet. Good stuff if it happens.

Seems like Lyon were hoping to sell Cherki for that kind of fee but he refused to go, so now they are selling Nuamah at a loss to cover.

They've been spending a lot of money this summer.

The owner is doing very dodgy things with finances and other clubs he has an interest in

No rumours for any goalkeepers - bit worried about Steven Benda being backup

Was only because it was one of the first comments on one of the links shared here. (amongst other more complimentary comments online across others)

Seems there are plenty comments online arguing both ways as ever but football is certainly a game of opinions of which I accept yours, still appears to have a lot of raw talent. We'll see how it plays out, hopefully its another Andersen and Tete outcome. At 20 years old, with him I wouldn't expect to receive a finished article but someone who can add a threat off the bench with his pace offers and potentially develop alongside and competing with our more experienced starters.

I'd be game assuming it wasn't a £25m flat fee, maybe £15m guaranteed plus £10m add ons based on qualifying for Europe, etc.

He was banging 'em in for Celtic but just hasn't worked out at Palace. Would be happier to have him and Muniz fighting it out than Raul.

Stansfield is never going to be a lone forward as he lacks the physique, I see him as a second striker or winger.

I would rather play Stansfield.

Assuming true that we've rejected Brums offer- Question might be more would you rather play Edouard or Raul? Especially since Stanno can play off the left also.

I question this source massively to be honest anyway.
I thought he struggled slightly on the left the other night personally. Took the goal well but that came from more a central run. Gave no protection for Sessegnon first half. Mind you he is far better than Edouard which would be a tad underwhelming considering how good this window has been.

I actually thought he tracked back well, got some blocks in and won the ball a couple of times. Clearly a hard worker and teamplayer.

Fulham 1879

Hard to believe that Odsonne Édouard was near the top of our list so we must have had a fair few knock backs. Very average record for Palace. Second highest scorer in Scottish Premier division, which is not as impressive as at first glance when you consider that the record holder is Leigh Phillips. Banging them in against Kilmarnock is like scoring against Scunthorpe. Was hoping for something better. Fee being muted is also ridiculous. He's a £15m player with add-ons. He cost Palace €16.3m and has underperformed. Frankly, I would keep the money in a TSB Young Savers account until someone comes along who is likely to be an improvement on what we already have.

Vinicius out for £2.5m
Mbabu out with a sell-on

That would be a tidy day's business for me

From what I've read online Nuamah plays on the right so I don't think that signing would make much sense.

Have said this a good 5 times already...

We lost Willian (left sided)
We lost BDR (right sided who can play across the line)

We already bought ESR (most success as a left-sided option who can play across the line)

Now we need to replace the predominantly right-sided player we lost (BDR)
.

LW options:
Iwobi/ESR/Stansfield/Godo/Sess

RW options:
Adama/Wilson - then Stansfield and Godo can do a job there but have been favoured on left so far.

Almost ALL of the players we've been linked with are predominantly RW's who can play across the line and on the other wing if we want. One can summise therefore that pretty clearly that's what we are actively looking and has been identified as our need by Marco and the club.

Ernest is a player who currently plays RW, but who is left-footed and can play LW also.

I disagree.

Iwobi has played his best football for us on the right. He has said he prefers to play as a number 8 before from what I've read online.

Adama and Wilson's best position is also on the right. Also both could play on the left.

ESR is going to play in a midfield 3 this season- by the looks of it anyway. His best position is as a number 10, but yes he can play on the left.

Stansfield's best position is either as a number 10 or a centre forward, he can certainly play on the wing but again it's not his best position- or at least somewhere he has played regularly (last two loans he mainly played as a number 10 or a centre forward- from what I saw anyway).

Ryan Sess hasn't played as a left sided forward for us since his return and it looks fairly clear to me that he'll compete with Robinson. Of course he can play further forward, but I don't believe it's the position we bought him for on the basis of how Marco Silva has used him so far (he's also listed as a defender on the club website).

Godo is probably going to go out on loan and I highly doubt he starts any games or gets many minutes this season- just my personal opinion.

So when you consider the above you have exactly 0 players whose best or out and out position is as a left sided forward. But you have at least 3 players who arguably's best positions are as right sided forwards.

So if we bring in a forward player it should be a left sided forward.

Now, I try not to look at rumours, but we'll know within the next few hours

I have to say, I would prefer to give Jay some playing time over Raul.

Raul hasn't looked effective in a while and if Jay goes on a run then we have a real asset on our hands.

How many academy players have gone out on loan and had the success that Jay has had. I can't think of any. If you don't give Jay a chance, then it sends a bad signal. Anyway, from what Marco Silva is saying Jay will get his chance this season. He gave Muniz his chance, I see him giving Jay the same sort of playing time at some point this season.

Looks like he's our man to target then, part of me still thinks there'll be an out of nowhere loan appearing too

Looks like Chelsea are struggling to shift the players they need to avoid breaching PSRs - Broja, Chukwumeka, Sterling, Chalobah etc

They're going to have to sell that hotel to another sister company at this rate. Or just sell 12 players to Strasbourg

Out of all the deadline day rumours I think Zhegrova would by far and away be our best option but I doubt very much whether we have truly been pushing for him. Think he would be expensive ...
