Stansfield purely a decision for Marco he works with him every day and knows if he has the potential to kick on to the Top Level.

That would be a tidy day's business for me

It'd be tidy, but not optimum.

Have watched a couple of Nuamah's highlights reels and he doesn't come across as very good, still very raw and much more of a player who doesn't always have that quality when it matters, he's missed scoring in one on ones with keepers; he runs to the byline and crosses without purpose or direction and his highlight reels also show him missing other shots or not watching the offside trap enough, or winning corners and throw ins - mainly because he can't beat the first man.

For me he's clearly not our first or second choice option, given the other players we've been linked with, and if he did sign, whilst I'd want him to do well, would put a dampner on what has been a very good window.. mainly because we've lost two attacking players, and in Willian a very good one who added value to our starting 11 and, like with Mitro and to a lesser degree Palhinha, we've will have failed to aptly replace them with the necessary quality.

For £15m too, I'd think that wouldn't make sense. I know good players are a premium, but this kid is largely unproven still and not really done anything noteworthy at OL. Considering what people think ofStansfield and the fact we've put a price tag on him over £10m, it may seem fair, but when you consider Forest got Jota for £7m and we got Cuenca for £7m too, it to me would represent poor value for money. Unless he comes good, which seems like a big IF at the moment.

Bit harsh the point about being first option. Cherki seemingly was but what can ya do about that if he didn't want to sign so you have to move to whats next and willing to come on our target list, and even he has been inconsistent so far and not hit his potential yet... The Ernest rumours came about the same sort of time as Reiss Nelson this week... Reiss is only available if Arsenal sign a RW good enough to let him go, so that seems off the table at this point so nothing can be done about that. No idea if he was further up the list, neck and neck or lower.

Ernest played a lot for a young kid in a big team in France at only 20. For sure he's a bit raw, but we have Adama doing well already at RW and I think this kid looks like he has bags of skill and he has a ton of pace, well worth a punt on - did very well before the age of 19 scoring 20 goals and 5 assists in Denmark so has it in him.

Will reserve judgment till we see him play but quietly excited about this lads potential, and think we're in a position to take a chance on a young up and comer with an older head doing well ahead of him.

The importance of signing Ernest !!

From what I've read online Nuamah plays on the right so I don't think that signing would make much sense.

Have said this a good 5 times already...

We lost Willian (left sided)
We lost BDR (right sided who can play across the line)

We already bought ESR (more left-sided who can play across the line)

Now we need to replace the predominantly right-sided player we lost (BDR)
.

LW options:
Iwobi/ESR/Stansfield/Godo/Sess

RW options:
Adama/Wilson - then Stansfield and Godo can do a job there.

Almost ALL of the players we've been linked with are predominantly RW's who can play across the line and on the other wing if we want. One can summise therefore that pretty clearly that's what we are actively looking and has been identified as our need.

Ernest is a player who currently plays RW, but who is left-footed and can play LW also.

Agreed

In reply to General - he absolutely smashed it in Denmark age 18/19 (top flight player of the season) then just had a decent full season in the French top flight aged 19/20. He must have something.

We just need to check the birth certificate is legit.

He had a really poor season at Lyon but yeah apparently was great in Denmark. Hopefully he can kick on if he joins. Must have something about him.

I'm not sure he was "really poor" in France, and assume that's been taken from one of the youtube comments? Plenty other comments online out there countering and saying he's a talent etc that had a Mixed season from what I can see, but he's only 20 and clearly has physical attributes we can work with. Put him in with Marco and see what we can do with him - His raw pace and control on the ball look great.

Agree with Angus on this one. We have plenty experienced players in the squad to take punts in some positions on raw talents with a lot of potential upside. A Nice blend of current talent and future potential in the squad.

Ideally a tried and trusted EPL wide man  who can score, yet is not wanted by his club.
Raheem Sterling on loan  if Chelsea are desperate enough to support his not inconsiderable wages.
A win-win for both clubs and the player himself!

Just out of interest, lets say they're charitable and decide to pay 50% of his wages, how would paying Sterling £162.5k a week be considered a win for them?

I'm sure that they would breathe a sign of relief
They would maybe accept if we offered to pay the Employers National Insurance
It could be better, but it's not a fantasy:

Tabby

Andersen and Tete were both deemed to be rubbish at Lyon. We have a good track record with their flops.

I also think Jay himself has some input, if he wants minutes and to play and he isnt getting that here then surely he can make that decision and then ask Marco whats what and can he move on if he isnt getting the minutes he wants.

Lyon fella the type of player we should be going for. V high upside. For 15m is a + value bet. Good stuff if it happens.

Seems like Lyon were hoping to sell Cherki for that kind of fee but he refused to go, so now they are selling Nuamah at a loss to cover.

They've been spending a lot of money this summer.

[/quote]They reported not to want him their registered squad to allow incoming purchases and not playing obviously decreases his transfer value.
A moderately successful season with us benefits everyone and interests bids later on.
Sound reasonable and sensible?
Mind you we are talking about Chelsea and their owners here 😉

Quote from: colinwhite on August 30, 2024, 10:26:11 AMI like jay Stansfield but I think hes a mile off premier league standard at this point in his career.

I don't think that's true. He's 21 and if you take Marco at his word he could just be about to have his break out season in the PL and for a team that many on here believe are mid table to top 10 in terms of quality.

If he does breakthrough and do well, then he's exactly on track for where he should be.

I really hope your right but the distance between being on the brink of a breakthrough and reaching success is massive trust me
And that was really my point
I'm definitely not writing him off

Let's put the lens to what he has achieved already. He went on loan to Exeter and played 36 times, contributing 16 g/a in League 1.

Then he went to a very poor Birmingham side in the Championships, who ultimately got relegated, but came out of it with the love and plaudits of their fans and having become a key player for them, contributing 14 g/a for them despite being in a poor team and with poor service and by default, probably not much possession.

He was likened to poacher Kevin Phillips by Birmingham fans, who said he was the most instinctive and natural finisher they had since Kevin - who was a consistent and regular premier league player (played 263 times in the PL, scoring 92 goals and getting 13 assists averaging a goal or assist every 2 games).

Birmingham have since built a squad that is expected already, without Stansfield, to storm league 1 - and have come back in for him, willing to spend (from what we know and have seen so far) £10m on him.

He's 21. Meaning he did what he did at Birmingham aged 20-21 and at Exeter aged 19-20 yrs old.

I don't know what you were doing at those ages, but I'd be impressed if you were doing anything of note to a similar degree.

So each time he's gone on loan he's delivered, regardless of the level, and despite his age and frame and playing competitive football.

Interestingly - Stansfield scored four of his goals last season in the championship against the three sides that got promoted too, which further suggests he can do a job in the PL.

that's all fine but has nothing to do with him being ready for the PL. I trust Marcos judgement so it will be interesting to see what happens.

Do we think it's completely off the table that we potentially see two new forward options coming in today?

That's a lot of noise about a fair few players and whilst I appreciate it's casting your net wide time to see what lands, surely there's more to it? Marco has referenced losing two forward options and generally wanting one in for each...?

I'd assume it's just the one, but making me think whether it could be 2.

Edouard is a striker no? This seems like it'd be in addition to a wide player

Reiss is off the table unless arsenal can find a winger so not an option seemingly

Assuming true that we've rejected Brums offer- Question might be more would you rather play Edouard or Raul? Especially since Stanno can play off the left also.

I question this source massively to be honest anyway.
I thought he struggled slightly on the left the other night personally. Took the goal well but that came from more a central run. Gave no protection for Sessegnon first half. Mind you he is far better than Edouard which would be a tad underwhelming considering how good this window has been.

Never completely off the table. Anythings possible in the dying embers of the window. but it just seems very unlikely given everything that's been said and were likely getting cross mish mashes of rumour and conclusions all over the gaff in whats being reported now at this stage.

We lost 2 and already brought in 1 forward line (ESR) plus brought back Stansfield who can play wide... so assume the main goal is 1 more....if another lands on our lap that's too good a deal to turn down then well see.

Only 8hrs 45mins to find out!
