Quote from: jayffc on June 10, 2024, 06:06:04 PMMain issue with mactominay for me is that he seems better playing CM and pushing forwards than CDM.

Not a Palhinha replacement by any means to me.

10 goals in just over 40 performances for utd, many of which were important game winning goals though.

Wouldn't sniff at the signing just would prefer a CDM if Joao goes. Would still prefer Andre if we're looking box to box but not sure if that's still one were looking at
Agree, McTominay isn't really a DM.

btffc

McTominay is crap out of possession. Really hope we don't go for him.

hovewhite

Stats wise Palhinia is a different level to all the rest,so put Lukic into the role and invest the money into the team and add quality around him so collectively we improve to compensate his loss across the pitch.Mctominey was a suggestion and if they recruit another manager he will keep him anyway.

Quote from: copthornemike on June 08, 2024, 07:49:18 PMI think an offer for Forest's Murillo is in order here.
Him and Bassey would be pretty impressive in the usual starting XI, particularly with Diop and Ream also in the squad.
Forest need some money to come in.

I don't mind that Murillo. Has an appealing edge to him and also very skilled for a CB.

Fulham Have Two Joao Palhinha Replacements 'Lined Up'

Fulham are eyeing Morten Hjulmand and Florentino Luis as potential replacements.

GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed that Fulham had always expected the deal for Palhinha to join Bayern to crop up again; and as such, plans are already in place to replace their Portuguese midfielder should he leave Craven Cottage.

Potential replacement signings have already been identified if the international does depart west London in the coming weeks - with both coming from his homeland. Palhinha was bought from Sporting, and Marco Silva could return to the Primeira Liga winners to replace the 28-year-old with Danish star Hjulmand.

Hjulmand has been linked with Manchester United in recent weeks ahead of a potential move, though that has not taken off just yet with reports suggesting United must pay his £67.5million release clause - and having excelled at Sporting, Fulham may have to act quick if they are to secure his signature.

The other player is from Sporting's rivals, Benfica - in the form of Luis. A tough tackling, tenacious midfielder, Luis has also been linked with Everton recently but nothing has been made on that front just yet.

I can't see us risking £67.5m on a player from Sporting surely.

Sporting signed him for 18m a year ago... 50m maybe if they'd accept it and that would be all the Palhinha money gone most likely. Similar money to what they got for Bruno Fernandes.

He does look a very good prospect mind you. If he came I'd be very happy on paper with that as a Joao replacement. But wouldn't perhaps be the best utilisation of the budget to enhance the squad more widely.

Likely Luis Would be a bit cheaper than that but only because he hasn't quite hit his full potential yet at benfica.

As ever it's all speculation till they walk in the door so we'll see

There is no way we would pay £50m for a player.  Florentino Luis far more likely at the £20m mark. Rumours we were considering at Vini Souza at Sheffield United and also Gus Hamer (when he was still at Coventry).  Given the fact we have been expecting Joao to leave, I would imagine we have a decent shortlist.  All gone quite with regard to Andre as well, but he is probably still on our radar...

Just can't see Fulham paying in the region of £50m for a player, we are much more likely to wait until window closing day and pick up a couple of good looking bargain basement buys that are unheard of.

StuinSalop

Whilst I totally agree we would be very unlikely to pay anywhere near £50 for anyone, you must remember that when amortisation is calculated over a 4 year period, a purchase of £40M works out at £10M a year.   That said if we sold Palhinha for £50M, we would not make all that in profit due to sell on clauses, tax and other costs.

A top notch DCM is however vital as we like to play with progressive defenders and wide attacking players, leaving the defence somewhat exposed.  Would see any replacement for Palhinha as a huge priority.

Getting a top notch right side central defender will also help and money from Palhinha would help secure that signing.

BestOfBrede

I'm sure I read somewhere, on here maybe, that Marco has advised the Khans that to progress and meet their, and his, ambitions, that they need to expect to pay higher recruitment fees. Maybe we will see players in the higher valuations, that we haven't previously?

No way Fulham spend that much on a player. His agent is trying to raise his price

Mctominay? No thanks. Apparently he rejected us last season. He can't even get in a poor United team
TC can't get in a poor Scotland team, does that make him a bad player, and if he rejected us back then I guess it wasn't the right time for him, might be different now.

TC can't get into the Scottish side because the manager doesn't like him, probably because we turned him down as manager and also TC is too old. However, TC wants to be at Fulham. Mctominay doesn't. Also, he is not even close to being a replacement for Palhinha.

Somerset Fulham

I posted a link on Nick's thread about TC, it was from a Scotland forum and a lot of them on there didn't think that he was as good as their current midfield three.

I must say that although he is by far the most cultured there is is a conversation to be had as to if he is better than what they have.

Out of curiosity (sorry, I didn't open the link), but who are their current three? McGinn must be one, not sure about the other two - McTominay a second one? Also, don't they usually play 3-4-3 under Clarke?

Somerset Fulham

They were talking about a current three of McTominay, McGinn and I think the third was Gilmour. I guess that two of the three start although I don't know.

The argument for Gilmour was his age compared to TC's 32 etc.

Asotosyios

Thanks SF - think Cairney would still have a role to play (perhaps as a sub as he did with us), but it looks like Clarke has gone in a different way.

Somerset Fulham

No worries!

There was agreement about him being a sub, but also at his age would he want to be etc.  They did seem to think that somehow Scotland has passed him by when perhaps it shouldn't have.

colinwhite

scotland are playing counter attacking football with a solid defensive base . so its not a question of TC s ability ,but more about how he would fit in to a system that doesn't really suit him. Opinions on ability are not really relevant giving its about how players fit in to a system .
