And are they getting rid of Endo too? If they're shedding defensive midfielders there are worse places we could look
As he's someone who can potentialy play for Serbian national team (he can choose between us and Spain), he's someone I've watched closely over the years. He looked excellent when he first broke through and had some MOTM worthy performances even in the CL. He had that pretty serious injury though, and I think it would be too risky to get him. I'd rather buy a proven dm/cm.

Quote from: General on August 13, 2024, 02:45:56 PMAnthony Martial - 28 and a free transfer option... a RW, but could play on the left, or free up others like Adama to do so?

Know he was much maligned at Utd, but he did have a knack for scoring and I feel under Marco he could find his feet again..

I like it, I've always seen him as a centre forward though. The problem is he's going to be on huge wages, so it isn't going to happen

Quote from: General on August 13, 2024, 02:42:50 PMHow about Adrien Rabiot - Apparently a free agent and 29. A central midfielder.. surely worth a punt?

Why not ,have a look Fulham.

Unfortunately I think we have no chance there. He'll end up at a title contender.

I like him, but wages would be too high and not sure we need another attacker. Also not sure he'd want to come.

I just did a quick Google search and I found a few websites saying he's on £250k per week. If true we can get no where near that. Having said that if he would take 100k per week I would sign him. I think he would score goals for us and a motivated in form player like him can be the difference between finishing 12th place and 8th place.

Quote from: Angus Telford on August 13, 2024, 03:26:54 PMThe next couple of weeks really are going to be another big litmus test for the owners.

I've a horrible feeling we'll announce Kalvin Phillips and Diego Costa in the last week of the window. If that happens, we're 100% back in MAF 2012/13 territory.

But of course we may announce Chalobah, Andre and some £30m wonderkid no one expected, let's see...

Diego Carlos, surely??

SerbianLad

Looking at players that are free agents/in the final year of their contract, Anguissa is in his last year of contract. Not sure he'd be interested, but I'd take him back in a heartbeat. He improved so much since he left us and we also improved considerably. Under Marco he'd be superb.

Lacroix from Wolfsburg, a 24 year old french rcb, with whom we've briefly been linked is also in the final year of his contract and would be a great option imo.

As far as free agents are concerned, Martial and Rabiot who were mentioned by @General are by far the best options, but as I said, neither are likely imo. I've also seen three of our former players in the free agents list, Vietto, Cavaleiro and Rico, but I wouldn't take any one of them 😁

Caedal

We've gone back in with a 25m +5m offer for Anderson. I wouldn't be surprised if that was accepted

Would absolutely take Anguissa personally, always maintained the issue was Parker not many of the players that year who have gone on to be successful. Doubt itd happen though, gather he already rejected aston villa

Interesting that we seem to be pushing for this over the cheaper Diego Carlos. No complaints here though,. Again, for me he was our best CBs since Hughes and Hangeland at the tine of his first outing here and was gutted we didnt stay up and keep him. Our defence wasnt the issue that year it was our complete ineptitude up front.

100% captain material, a leader, a fighter and a great person to pair with Bassey who has the pace and power to play alongside him and pair with his IQ and on the ball quality. Thats a very good offer imo if palace think they can spend that money elsewhere...if chalobah doesn't want to come here as some suggested perhaps they appeal to him more and they'll go for him instead.

I've been wondering about the MAF comparison too..

Are we just handicapped as a club to always be caught in this style of position as a club in the PL where progress is always an uphill task due to our ability in the transfer market..?

I had hopes under the khan's with them seemingly more open to spending cash and having it that those days were gone, but they've definitely reverted to a familiar type as things stand..

Just imagine if we had stayed up and in the league before FFP/PSR regs came into place and where we could've been instead if we'd made use of those years.

Agree with that analysis but it's so blatantly low ball from us. He's worth 40m

Imagine the reaction from our fans if we were contemplating selling a player of his quality to palace for 25m

True, but I'd hope we'd make an offer at least. I think he'd be perfect for us.

Am I the only one who thinks Andersen is massively overrated? And that fee is too high. If it's between him and Carlos, I'd prefer Carlos.

Disagree that he's worth £40m. If he was 4 years younger yes, but he's not. If the £25m bid is rejected I believe we should walk away.

It starts to become one of those perfection, procrastination, paralysis styled situations...

I'm of a similar perspective where I'd just like Carlos in. He'll be cheaper, he's got a good pedigree and has a good few years in him still.

Then focus on the key positions and getting in a dm and a CM - and maybe a forward.

Build the squad up over this window, January and next summer.

For me carlos is good enough to be a starter for us and will do for a couple of years, free up the budget and get andré in and then focus on another CM, whether Mctominay or someone else.

Spending £40m on andersen when we've been so tight with other transfer fees seems a bit unrealistic in terms of it actually happening.

I think its less important this window to get a long term RCB in, whereas we know there's a very exciting DM that's available and seemingly interested in joining that has huge upside potential.

I thought he was great for us in 19/20 but I've not been as impressed when I've seen him at Palace. I would not want us to increase the current bid any further. I'm also concerned that if we spend this money on Andersen that we won't get a quality CDM, which is vital.

I think Anderson is top drawer. His long range passing is about as good as it gets for a centre back. Aggressive, good in the air and a vocal organiser and barely ever gets injured. Not the quickest and loves a yellow card though.

At 28, think he's a better option than Carlos.

Very please with our recruitment lately and this is another good sign once again going after top quality.

Somerset Fulham

Too right we should be lo-balling Palace.  If £25m allows them to keep hold of Guehi then we effectively have them over a barrel for a quality player in Anderson.

General

Can't help but admire Palace's stance on Guehi and wondering if Fulham's was a bit weak re Mitro and Palhinha in comparison.. We never had a statement from our ownership saying Palhinha's the best DM in europe, or one of the best, and young and has a lot of his career ahead of him and people need to pay what that's worth.. Still feel £50m was cheap for him.
