Love the ambition in trying to get Fofana. It will only be done if Chelsea and Liverpool bow out. As of now, that seems highly unlikely. Both clubs are in for him according to (another credible source in) L'Equipe

This is what his agent said not long ago about his clients preferred destination:

"The choice of heart would be Liverpool. He has the potential to enter the rotation, and above all, we would like to see him succeed African legends such as Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mané, and El-hadji Diouf," Bobo Fofana told AfricaFoot. "Now, the choice of reason would be Newcastle, a well-structured club that could be a first step to gain experience before, perhaps, joining a club in the European top 5."

Quote from: Drewry66 on June 20, 2025, 03:12:22 PMIt would be absolutely amazing. And yeah if he smashed it for us in the prem at 20 now he prob goes for £80m+ in a year or two. Other clubs like Wolves and Brighton have spent around the £40m mark and have managed to convince players so not impossible. I'd imagine we'd have to pay him a lot to convince him. We can but dream but as soon as frigging Chelsea or someone come in we're prob stuffed. Here's praying anyway as would be ridiculously exciting. Hopefully the kind of signing that stuffs a low block team.

The last point you make is absolutely key and the real reason we didn't get into Europe. We had little speed or guile to break down those Ipswich/Saints type teams at home.

Liverpool are not going to splash out again on a winger after Wirtz (who will play off the left). Newcastle have Gordon and Barnes, are they likely to spend significant money on another wide player? Highly improbable.

We are in for Fofana, and others, as I have spoken about in this thread. It is exciting and we are going to have a good summer.

I think we've now got quite a solid core of a squad, so it makes sense to spend more on fewer players to take us to the next level.

We've Bassey, Andersen, Leno, Robinson, Castagne, Berge, Lukic, Iwobi, ESR, Muniz etc.. The list is pretty decent, and with options like Traore, Jimenez etc.

It's time to spend money on 3 or 4 players, but spend between £30m-£40m on each.

A top CAM, Striker and winger should be our priority this window to take our front line to another level. Then we'd need to either secure Tete to a new contract or find a replacement as well as one perhaps for CM/DM.

I dont doubt that we are in for him. Im just saying that if we are looking at credible sources (like Julian) then lets not ignore other credible sources (like L'Equipe). I can imagine a lot of clubs are after him, and we will always in these cases be completely dependent on what they chose to do. If Chelsea, Newcastle or Liverpool do go for him then we stand virtually no chance

I dont know anything about Liverpools future transfer plans, and likely neither do you. And I dont know where Slot plans to use Wirtz as he can play on the wing, in the centre and - some believe he might be used in the same manner as PSG uses Dembele. Apparently, Slot is a big admirer of Enriques style.

Liverpool are actually looking at Gordon as well (according to reports) so either way, one of Newcastle and Liverpool might be in need of a winger after all.

As for Chelsea, them signing stupid amount of wingers is definitely not past the realms of possibility.

Forfana = this years Cherki

I admire our ambition our the last few years, if the links are true, but maybe we should aim lower & get players that want to join us rather than those wanting a 'bigger' team or a 'better' deal at their current club.

Probably but no harm in trying as part of a long list of targets. Wolves picked up Cunha for £45m. It's highly unlikely but got to put your hat in the ring. Only 20 so not impossible he wants guaranteed game time at this stage. Highly unlikely we can pull it off but love the effort if true.

I don't think it's a problem so long as we're not chasing ambitious targets at the expense of other targets - which I'm sure is the case.

Bournemouth are losing a lot of the good young players... but they are getting a lot of money for them.

We need to start investing in younger players as a priority

We have all said this and almost everyone agrees we need some younger and more sellable assets.

However...actually been watching their whole team potentially be dismantled and sat here thinking what a good place we are in compared to them from a stability point of view. We had an incredibly solid season and may not lose anyone we don't want to if Tete stays. Then have by all accounts an incredibly healthy budget to add to that.

They on the other hand may end up with half a team rebuild after losing all their best players. Hard to kick on doing that. Yes they'll have a tonne of money and they have a recent history of spending money well but no guarantees. Half their fans are losing it from what I've seen on social media. Also note that incoming money only stays on the books for 3 years so not like they can overspend on a tonne huge 5 years so contracts as year 4 and 5 they could be stuffed.

May all work out well for them if they replace well and could even massively kick them on but could also be a disaster if they lose the best 3 of their back 4, Seymenyo their biggest threat and possibly even Evanilson if they then don't do as well in the market this time.

Really hope we have a few more sellable youngsters by the end of summer but not sure I'd want to be in their shoes right now with the best half of my team decimated if they lose all that. Could be brilliant for them or could be huge trouble.

Chelsea have opened talks with Lyon over 20-year-old Belgian winger and Nottingham Forest target Malik Fofana. (L'Equipe - in French),

Re Bournemouth

Assuming they lose Huijsen, Kerkez, Semenyo and Zabarnyi (actually don't think they'll lose both the last two but assuming they do)

It would be like us losing Andersen, Bassey, Robinson and Jiminez this summer, for £200m total

I'd take that

Would probably have to write-off 25/26 as a consolidation season, but it would set us up for years after

demeant0r

Do Chelsea scouts just look at transfer rumours and make bids based on that?

This was older news from a few days ago as someone else mentioned, haven't made any actual bids.

Nuno just signed a new 3 year deal at Forrest. Would be nice to see Marco doing that this week to kick our summer off.  ::thumb::

Bit of a case of damned if you do, damned if you don't for the club

I think this is a good profile of player to go for. Not a superstar yet or a definite bet for top teams but looks like he's on the pathway to that.

Players who have looked good in Champions League and are still young. Was very impressed with a number of young players at Club Brugge in Champions League, would be great to see us look at players of that ilk. Bellanova also sounds promising.

Sometimes you have to wait til late in window for these players who may be waiting to see if they get opportunity at a big club, but if they don't come then we have a chance. Think Castagne almost joined Juventus before us, which was why it was quite late.

Depends how the money was spent!

I still wish we had kept Stansfield, just the kind of prospect we want.

Yes but he wasn't prepared to wait for his chance, he wanted first team football immediately, it was his choice to go.

Well damn, that would be quite the coup. Would be suprised if we got him but we do need a good winger.

As ever it's all just rumours ay, but would be something to be excited about, looks a very good young talent

obligatory link

Looks two footed, massive bonus for a winger.

I'll quietly wait until last minute of window to see just how good of a summer it turns out to be.
