But this would mean Tete is not signing. We simply can't have three first team RBs.

Could KWP be an upgrade on Timmy C? Or at least on par? Looked very good against us going forward and solid enough defensively.

Timmy is a very solid right back but isn't spectacular defensively or offensively. KWP on a free and sell Timmy for say £10m could be good business? Highly unlikely I am guessing but just a thought. Suspect more likely we are exploring this in case Tete doesn't sign.

He rarely gets in Man U's side and would be no improvement for us.

I don't understand the interest in this player either, and why we're linked to him.  Quality and age highly suspect.  Big no thank you from me.  Hope we stay clear......

This would be my logic too - nothing against Castagne as he's been fairly solid in his two seasons here and is a lovely guy by all accounts, but if you could get back most of what we signed him for and replace with freebie KWP + Tete staying then it helps the summer kitty quite a bit, given that KWP can play LB too he'd be a versatile pick-up for free.

That seems fair. Timmy is 29 and so is King Tete, we need to lower the average age. Edit: actually just realised KWP is 28, so getting him and selling Castagne would technically reduce age haha

Not trying to sound offish here but if you were at the game or watched the whole 90mins recording the one thing he was not was solid defensively! He has a bit of pace but don't we want a full back whose main objective is to defend primarily? I just don't see how he is an upgrade on Castagne apart from a bit quicker?

Craven Mad

Agreed. Defensively KWP is definitely a downgrade on Castagne.

He's a good ball carrier though, much better than Castagne, and can pass well, so he'd be a decent option against weaker sides where the fullbacks have licence to roam.

Kenny remains the King defensively, so I really hope we can convince him to stay.

Castagne is also on the highest wages of the three (reportedly £65k pw vs £50k and £20k for Tete and KWP respectively), so I can see a world in which we could try to shift him this summer.

Saying that, I think it's more likely Kenny OR KWP (ie not both) with Castagne staying as competition.

Ignoring the fact those salaries are most likely nonsense, KWP would be a free agent and his salary with us would likely be much higher.

If Tete does leave, I'd rather keep Castagne and sign a young right back. If we sign anyone from Southampton, I hope it's Sulemana.

KentFulham

Think KWP would be an upgrade on Casatange, Timmy is a good player, but easily beaten one on one and often finds himself out of position

Drewry66

I watched the whole 90 mins on TV. I was more focused on us to be fair but didn't particularly notice KWP being bad defensively. Defo looked good going forward. Only one match however so who knows...might check out the stats. Defo a good point that as a free agent prob demands a higher wage as this is what always happens and a few clubs after him.

Drewry66

Stats wise KWP does look very good on the ball and carrying forward (as per Saturday) but very poor defensively:

Would be great to have Tete starting and him as an option if we were behind. Based purely on defensive stats however big risk should Tete get injured so based on that I'd rather keep Timmy. Scratch my original thought then! lol

To be honest, I'd rather re sign Ola Aina who also seems to be on thy m the last year of his contract

Could never understand why we didn't go for him on a free last time when Forrest did.said it on here loads. Instead spent £15 million on Timmy. Again Timmy is a decent player but I would say Aina has performed a lot better than him in the last few years. Sounds like bigger clubs may be interested now as he's done so well at Forrest but yeah would defo take him if Tete won't sign if he wanted to come.

If he ends up at Burnley because he knows Parker then I'm going to scream.

QuoteFulham have held internal talks about the possibility of bringing Joao Palhinha back to the club just one year after he left to join Bayern Munich.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the 29-year-old is still very highly thought-of at Craven Cottage.

Palhinha is believed to be open to a return to the Premier League after struggling for game time since his move to the Bundesliga giants.

Before his move to Bayern, Football Insider revealed Liverpool and Arsenal wanted to sign Palhinha in the wake of his impressive Fulham performances.

However, has made just nine starts in 22 appearances across all competitions this season, and has played the second-least minutes of any player with more than 15 appearances.

Marco Silva's side, meanwhile, are hoping to qualify for Europa Conference League football this season and currently occupy the final qualification place in the league.

Always liked KWP. He seems to battle hard for them even in dire games.

Apparently Spurs will need to sell players in order to buy this summer. Anyone Marco would be interested in? Richarlison? I can't imagine he'd be cheap to purchase.

I literally came to this thread to share this story - you beat me to it!

Ndidi makes a heap of sense for us, especially at £9m. He's younger and cheaper than Palhinha, but almost just as good defensively, and would allow us to divert funds onto more important areas (namely, some stronger wingers and a more creative CM).

We have other Nigerian internationals in the squad too, and I can't see the top clubs being interested in him given his age and injury history.

Deeping_white

Thought Mateus Fernandes looked pretty decent against us the other day and has been a bright spark in a fairly inept Saints team. He's capable of playing as a #8 next to a DM or can also play as a #10 and looks to have a bright future - he's come up through Sporting and Estoril so I'm sure Silva and the coaching staff are aware of what he can do & he's 10th in the PL for duels won so happy to put himself about as well
