This has got to be one of the most depressing windows I've experienced. There aren't even rumours anymore. All that seems to have happened is a shift from debating whether it's acceptable or not to have a get your targets later in the window policy to trying to rationalise the excuse for not signing anyone at all because of the new rules

Remember when there was only Ceefax & we weren't even close to having any news on there either.

I used to think if I took my boots with me to the first match I might get a game.

Yep. The Palhinha to Spurs transfer has truly spoiled all enjoyment of the summer transfer business for me. Just frustrated that a team who finished 17th last season still can make such signings as if that never happened, while meanwhile we are left to sign the scraps that nobody else really wanted at the end of the window.

Still, it's the hope that keeps you going though and I'm hoping we'll pull off some outstanding and more imaginative bargains than the current rumours before the window 'slams shut', who can make a real difference in helping us finish well above Spurs again this year and hopefully so we can attract players in future that want European football.

Craven Mad

Villa have just agreed to buy Guessand from Nice for €35m.

I thought he'd be a great fit for us, so will be interested to see how he gets on next season.

Is Koumas or Mendez Liang still available?

Moussa Dembele the 3rd

Quote from: Moussa Dembele the 3rd on August 05, 2025, 12:13:21 PMI don't quite understand the panic and disappointment about this transfer window. We haven't lost a single player, signed all of our young talent to longer term deals (and Kenny), and bought a capable back-up keeper. Marco has said he only wants to buy quality 1st team players for the club. Who do people think we should buy and who are the new signings replacing in the lineup? I'm sure we will bring in a few decent back-ups in areas of need before the window closes. The team as currently constituted can easily compete for a top half finish. What's wrong with that?

Because standing still is a recipe for disaster. Look what happened in 2014. It took the best part of a decade to recover. The squad must evolve season by season. I'm still hopeful that the club will make the signings the squad so desperately requires because it suffered towards the end of last season when results were poor.

Comparisons to 2014 are patently ridiculous. Steve Sidwell and Scott Parker were our central midfield duo and a totally washed up Daren Bent was our lone center forward. Patjim Kasami was the only talented younger player in the team or in the club after Smalling and Frei were sold.

Only having one fit forward down the home stretch really hurt us last year. Hopefully a 3rd striker is brought in before the window closes. But other than that, Berge and Lukic are both on the right side of 30 years old and are a wonderful pairing. ESR, Iwobi, Muniz, Wilson, Sessegnon, Periera, Traore are all talented attacking players in their prime or coming into their prime. We have three world class fullbacks (if you count Timmy, I do). An accomplished center back pairing, with Bassey coming into his prime and looking world class and Diop a perfectly decent squad player. And to top it off a very good keeper. What are we even talking about?

At this point we should just sign Richarlison, can cover on the wing and up front, save some pennies if we havent got many to spend

That would be phenomenal

Interestingly, the graphic that said Muniz was one of the best strikers in the league based on minutes per goal, Richarlison was one of the others.

Quote from: StuinSalop on August 05, 2025, 08:35:00 AMWhat we know is that to help make SCR, Raul, Adama and TC are out of contract.  That makes £200K a week, that on its own could do it, we would however need to replace but we could bring in low cost now or Jan and effectively trial this season.

Highest earner Leno on £120K a week, we could look to replace but doubt it.

Selling Robinson and Muniz probably gets us £100 Million.

Probably plenty of other options, it's just a question of playing the cards correctly.

What we can't do is commit to high earning long term contracts for players we don't know.

Conclusion, we are looking to bring in what we know....Nelson plus some low cost potential 1st team players like Lecomte.   Can we find more Robinsons, Tetes and Lenos? Who cost very little but have delivered hugely.

King is like a new £20M plus signing who in a few years time could be worth ridiculous money.

It's not all lost by any means, we have a solid squad now, but it required careful management and good decision making.

Robinson and Muniz fetching £100m is optimistic given the former's age. There's no way Muniz fetches more than £30m without a 15 goal season.

Certainly potential with King but right now it is just that.

Well it's already been widely reported we rejected 35m from Leeds so your wrong here.

Would love Richarlison .. not sure that would be a cheap option though if anything that would be the expensive option

For what it's worth. Even if we signed no one I don't think we are in trouble .. just so boring / uninspiring though.
Although I still think we will make 4 more signings before window shuts (5 in total)

I would too, if I wasn't paying a fortune for my season ticket that is.

Lighthouse

The new squad ratio rules means that we have to be cautious with signings. Many clubs will be caught out with it next season or when it comes in.
The above IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. It is an opinion.

We may yet hear the horse talk.

I can stand my own despair but not others hope

Well played everyone. I've just finished a lovely day touring Rome and I came back to find several pages of unread posts on this thread. "Only a real concrete transfer could possibly generate that much buzz", I naively thought to myself. Nope. It might be time to remove the word "Transfer" from the title.
