Quote from: Count Flapula on August 07, 2025, 10:50:02 AMHmm, on the Kevin links will Shakhtar really want to sell to us after the way we dealt with the Manor Solomon transfer? Don't think they were too pleased with us over that so imagine that will make negotiating a viable price harder than other clubs who didn't try to dick them over.

Ultimately they did a deal, so it got done and the relationship ended on a good note. In addition to that it put Manor in the shop window and got them a bigger deal with Spurs, where Solomon has failed to impress and has ended up at Leeds in the Championship, which kinda feels like his natural level.

I don't see why they'd have any issues, fundamentally it all went ahead regardless of it dragging out. In hindsight we should've put all our effort into Kluivert instead, who's gone from strength to strength with Bournemouth, but that's life.

I don't think that's quite right General. Spurs got him on a free. he was on his last year of his contract when he came to us on loan, and we'd agreed a fee around the fact of the FIFA ruling that meant players in war-torn countries could leave on loan without all the normal procedures for player welfare (thats a really loose explanation). So we loaned on but with an agreement in place that we would pay them at the end of Manor's contract in good faith. Would we of I don't know, but what transpired was, we didn't sign him, he and his agent went to Spurs with a nice sign on fee as a free agent and Shaktar were out of pocket. I do think it wasn't our fault though which is why all the anger is directed at both the rules maker, and subsequently Spurs.

Apologies, I stand corrected.

It doubles down on the comment I made earlier (and perhaps others did too), that this window we're aiming to genuinely focus on quality over quantity, which would stack up if looking at Sterling, Kevin from Shakhtar, Zinchenko, Nelson and Lecomte.

It's about making this existing squad more competitive it seems.

Bigger money on better signings to level up what we have.

Defensively we're the strongest I've seen us as a club, with perhaps the only question mark around LB.

Tete, Castagne, Andersen, Diop, Lecomte, Leno, Cuenca, Bassey, Robinson, Sessegnon (though feel better suited further forward).

We've got solid competition for CM in many ways, though could be improved in Reed, TC, Berge, Lukic.

Quote from: junior white on August 07, 2025, 03:26:57 PMJust wondering, say Newcastle firm up their alleged interest in Muniz (possible of Isak goes?) and offer 50-55 million, would we be satisfied replacing with either Romulo or Hojland for 35-35 million?

Hojlund would be a major upgrade on Muniz, I would bite your hand off now on that, guy has been playing in a one man disfunctional team at Utd, age on his side, proven in Italy, yes please

I seem to be half on my own here as so many seem to love the idea of Hojland but this just seems like a mental take to me.

He has a goal every 300 mins in the prem. pretty shocking.

Even in Italy only every 200 mins.

Muniz has one every 150 mins in the prem!

How on earth can he be considered a major upgrade then?! At the mo he's not even anywhere near as good as Muniz let alone an upgrade as these figures very clearly show.

I get that he is playing in a mess of a United team and that I am sure Marco would get more out of him but he's been shocking in the prem and hasn't done anything to show that he's good enough for the fee we'd have to pay.

All completely academic anyway in all likelihood as doubt in a million years he'd drop down to us. Personally I'd rather take my chances on Romulo and hope he's brilliant at £20 odd million considering Hojland record above.

I've also spent years taking the piss out of my United mates for the absolute flop of a signing he's been so we are not allowed to do it simply for the absolute pelters I'd get back.

We had a €30 million offer for Pepi turned down earlier in the window according to Santi Aouna.

There's a lot of scope for interpretation on the latest stuff.

If we're only looking to make signings that substantially improve us - like Kevin - I'm 100% behind that, it makes sense. Especially if they're young, and demonstrate some sophisticated scouting. But it needs to backed by cash and effort.

If on the other hand we're "calm" and largely content with what we have, as the BBC seem to suggest, well that is Khan out / sack-the-board level vexatious for me.

Are we genuinely pushing for Europe, or content with 13th? No one seems to know at this point.

Can we sign Shirley as well?

Apparently it's between us and Valencia for Real Sociedad striker Umar Sadiq.

He was playing for my favorite domestic club Partizan Belgrade and was one of our best strikers in the last 15 years surely. A quick and tall striker, we could do much worse for a third striker.

Do you have any connections to Serbia or are you just a Partizan fan by choice?

Re:Sadiq, I think he would be a decent 3rd striker option. He seems a bit "unorthodox", for the lack of a better word, when he plays, as his movement and dribbling seems a bit weird, but he is actually quite skilful and a decent finisher.

Maybe the comment many pages back was correct in that our recruitment team have been holiday as they thought the window has only just opened.

Their player of the season not starting? Not even in the squad! Very interesting. Please Fulham.

Sounds like our offer was just under. Hope we can try and seal this one quickly but I'm not going to get my hopes up!

You just know we'll be holding out to the end of the window so that difference gets in our favour  :slap:
Yes that sounds like us.
Risking someone more proactive, most clubs are, to nip in and sign him.
