Silva: Fulham short on numbers after 'passive' window

A remarkable series of statements from Marco Silva, who says Fulham have been left short on numbers ahead of their Premier League opener at Brighton...

"It's not an ideal scenario. You used the word 'quiet' - I have to say we've been too passive. If you asked me if I expected it, I'd say of course not. But it is what it is, it's the market.

"It's important we didn't get injuries during pre-season because, in some positions, we are very short on numbers. We want to at least have a squad and players on the bench to play a Premier League game and meet the demands the league asks of you.

"As a manager you always want to improve your squad, it's not the ideal scenario we are in, we have been too passive.

"Of course I didn't expect it [to be like this] but this is the market. The only good thing thing is we haven't got many injuries as in terms of depth we are very short in some positions.

"I didn't expect us to be this passive, I knew what I wanted and the plan was there but it hasn't happened. Right now we need to reinforce."

"It's unexpected, even if it's normal for Fulham to sign players late. I don't go in that direction - I know what we want, and the plan was there.

"Let's hope we can do something before the end of the month, because right now it doesn't make sense for us to look toward the Brighton game or even the Man Utd game, as we've left it very late to reinforce the positions we need."

Silva absolutely wants more players in and is bothered that we haven't but the media are overblowing his reaction as they always do to him. By tonight the headlines will be "SILVA BLOWS UP AT FULHAM OWNERSHIP"

Usual sh** to get people enraged, play into human emotion like a fiddle-ya get more clicks from negative sensatioanalist headlines and clicks pay bills. Remember last week's interview where similar was said like he was shouting down the house about it -only to watch the the video and find he was actually just understandably frustrated but hardly anywhere close to scathing in delivery like it was reported😅

A week on and unsurprisingly he's getting steadily more frustrated.
All part of the rollercoaster that is summer 🤣
He's clearly miffed we haven't brought in more outfield players yet, and I'm sure most can understand that.

Anyway , Not long to go now till end of window thank f***.

Quote from: Willham on August 14, 2025, 12:42:29 PMYep, can do it, just feel it's not his natural game.

Something ive spotted with muniz is that his ability to get his head on the ball has improved, although his ability to get them headers in the back of the net is still evading him.

I want him to aim for 5 headed goals this season, that would be a good milestone

He tends to head straight down the middle of the goal, not at the corners. So they are straight into the keeper's hands. It's something he needs to work on as it gives the sense he is missing sitters.

I noted his header - disallowed for offside - in the friendly in Portugal. Beautifully glided just inside the right-hand upright.
[/quote]

Always easier to score when the defence and keeper stop for offside - in the Saudi game he also had a header that he fluffed without much pressure - he's got a 50p head and it can go anywhere. But he's 24 and by time he's Raul's age he might be a talent

https://twitter.com/espiritodporco/status/1955959320941654513

Translation: Flaco López is on Fulham's radar.
The English team is negotiating the departure of striker Rodrigo Muniz, and the Argentine has become a target at the request of coach Marco Silva.

Interesting rumour, had never heard of him. His stats aren't immediately eye catching - but like the fact that Marco has requested him. If true of course.

Same age as Muniz.

Brazil is fairly low scoring. Top scorer last season when he was first choice bagged 15 goals and Lopez scored 10. Igor Jesus who Forest signed and has been called up to the national team scored 5.

Obligatory Youtube reel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTln5DwrOEk

He does look pretty decent actually, bullies defenders in the air and on the ground, good penalties, solid shot.

Quote from: v on August 14, 2025, 03:12:18 PM€40m is the figure Italian TV just quoted Atalanta as offering for Muniz.
Atalanta will be looking for a decent profit margin when they eventually come to sell him, so they obviously value him higher. How much higher is anyone's guess 🤷♂️

Or they could equally be not wishing to bid too much incase he flops and they lose too much when they sell him to Hibernian or Hearts in a few years time

Make of that what you will. But market is mad and some prices have been insane ..50m/60m quoted for the southampton CM other day springs to mind...50m requested allegedly for pepi, 35m rejected for Kevin. perhaps that's the referance to "it's the market" ...who bloody knows, bring on september

Yes but we're also doing the same quoting 50mil for Muniz. It's the same for everyone.

Yup. And there's been a fair amount of potential overpaying going on. Some Clubs are forking out 30m for backup players over 25 years old that their clubs don't even really play (kdh)...Muniz is a young, proven prem striker with great scoring stats per 90 against worlds best teams who is our current number 9 we want to keep. Pepi isa good prospect but in dutch league with a questionable injury record and their asking for 50?! 35m for dibling???

Absolutely mental market atm

This transfer window has got ' last minute loans' written all over it

Imagine Silva was asked the same question about our lack of summer transfer activity multiple times in slightly different ways from a number of different reporters so his response was fair and even handed, and largely true. We have been too passive and the market is crazy.

Hardly spat his dummy out, but that's not his style. Silva is about as professional as it gets.

Let's hope we can get some good targets in, ideally without losing Muniz in the process.

Ironically for a world obsessed with instant gratification, the transfer market seems to be, that players that can deliver now, like Taremi, are quite cheap, while players with lots of perceived potential, are priced much higher because of an obsession with sell on value, even though they may end up proving to be rubbish. Think of all the duds Liverpool have sold like Brewster and Ibe for huge sums.

Agreed: and equally ironically, has occurred in modern football as a strange byproduct of PSR.

I mean, should be not be sceptical of an ITK who shares info in reaction to a press conference? If they'd posted about it weeks earlier, then relatively useful insight.. but to post it afterwards, to me, could just mean it's a kid trying to leverage stuff to sound ITK, instead of actually being.

Two that standout earlier in the window were Elanga at £55m when his value is £40m at a push. Then, similarly Madueke at £52m. I feel that deals like this have dictated the prices through the summer.

Decent strikers approaching their peak usually go for inflated prices - so I don't see the problem asking £45-50m for Muniz, even if his true value is £35m.

To think Arsenal could have signed Eze for £67m, but instead handed one of their rivals Chelsea a massive amount of money for a player that they were happy to move on! Even worse for them - now seems Eze may go to Spurs

I actually like the idea of this tbh.

So many players leave utd and do better with something to prove in a less pressured environment, still young. No idea validity of source though

Very possibly, but it's a pretty logical conclusion regardless really. Clubs happy with squad starting point, doesn't want to rush into unfavourable deals is consistent with alot of reports from FFN and others all summer.
