Nelson loan with option
Sterling loan.. potentially with option/obligation?

We'd have some pace in our attack that'd be for sure.

Sterling is not quick any more
He is still quicker than what we currently have! That's how slow the make up of our midfield & front line is!

hovewhite

I would welcome Stirling no problem.

Surely no way we get all 3.

We don't need 3 wingers this summer.

There's reasonable debate to be had about even needing 2

If we have:
Iwobi/Kevin/Adama/Wilson/Sess + ESR also good there + Godo

I'd like nelson or sterling too personally but 3 would be excessive unless we sold one of our main current wingers, which I wouldnt as they all have unique strengths

Agree with this 100% with this, and I even posted something similar recently. Absolutely no need to get 3 wingers in, unless we sell one of our current. I think one is enough. Maybe 2 if the second winger can play as a striker too. It's definitely one of Kevin/Nelson for me.

I imagine it depends on a few things.

A number of out existing wingers are getting older and their contracts are running down.

If we, for example, got Nelson in on loan with an option based on goals/appearances etc and he stayed fit the entire season, then why wouldn't we?

Realistically the other knock on is that we then have guarantees over signing players for a fee, but pushing the fees being split over a different season.

Sterling, if he sticks to his stats and mins per g/a is far from done, and if Chelsea let him go on loan then they take on part of his wages.. if Sterling does well, we boost our profile as a club, increase our chances of Europe, and maybe he enjoys it here so much, that he stays and takes a pay cut. At worse he's a very solid option for us.

Kevin, alongside Nelson, are both young with a lot of potential to do well and time on their side to improve.

JimmyConway

One player who could do a turn for us in more ways than one on the bench tonight for Everton is McNeil ?
Quite underrated and always a goal threat! Tidy footballer who goes under the radar?

At the end of the day, we have 3 squad places left(4 if we loan/sell Godo). Why would we use all of them on wingers when we already have a lot of wingers.

I'm all for 2 of them (Kevin and Nelson) and sending godo on loan.

I just don't think we need to spend out on all 3 unless we sell one of Wilson or Adama which id rather not do tbh I rate both of them for different reasons

Lighthouse

We still need a third striker. So unless one of three can play as a central striker it would seem silly to have so many players setting up crosses and nobody actually in the box to aim for.  ::tongue::
The above IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. It is an opinion.

We may yet hear the horse talk.

I can stand my own despair but not others hope

We need goals - Sterling and Kevin - statistically speaking, are goalscorers. They also have the ability it seems to get past players, put in good crosses, improving the quality of play in the final third, which could be good for Muniz and Jimenez. Sterling has also played Striker.

Yeah I rate him, does worry me though that he's been at Everton for 4 seasons now and no bigger club has come in for him and he is not a nailed on starter.. think he's a decent PL winger but not better than what we have at the moment (ie he didn't start over Iwobi)

If we fail to get a loan for Godo for a 3rd straight window it should be considered malpractice on the club's part. It already is malpractice we failed the last two. The kid needs to play. I'd even bring Willian back to make the numbers for him to finally get a dang loan. Marco will want 5 wingers by the way so that's why we want 2 in. Godo is only still here in case we fail to get a 2nd.

Nuamah collapsed late so we kept Godo last Summer. Then in the Winter, we failed to get Chukwueze over the line so he had to stay again even with Willian coming in due to Nelson's and Wilson's injuries. Both times, he reportedly had things lined up ready to go out and we were waiting for incomings that failed.

I agree. I don't think Godo is ready for the PL, but I've seen some moments that made me think there is a chance that he could develop in to one. He really needs a good loan, preferably to the Championship.

The links to Maeda are interesting because he's a winger who is also comfortable as a striker - decent scoring rate for Celtic albeit as a big fish in a small pond with a far weaker league. He would be a genuine utility forward as he would give us an option as an inverted LW, and also as a pacy striker for playing counter attacking football. Only thing will be his £25m price tag which I would assume we wouldn't pay unless we sold Muniz, but then you'd probably have Raul/Taremi/Maeda as CF's, Kevin/Maeda/Nelson as LW options, and Wilson/Adama/Nelson as RW options (swap Nelson/Sterling based on your choosing)

This equation changes if Marco sees Sess as a LB first.

Even if he doesn't I wouldn't be opposed to bagging some profit from Traore (if the price is fair) and signing Nelson.

Both are rapid, Nelson has the chance to add to that.

Agree re:Sess.

I wouldn't swap Traore for Nelson though. Nelson is much more injury prone, and Traore is more proven in the PL(in my opinion at least) + although Nelson is fast, Traore is significantly faster and that is a very useful atribute in certain games. The only thing Nelson has on him is his age.

I love Maeda, if we could pinch him for a reasonable price, hope we jump, but not sure Celtic part with their best player!

Realistic best case is he goes to the Championship, does well then we sell him for a few million to that team. Maybe we get lucky and he is on a promoted team that wants to keep him(or he catches the eye of a promoted team) and then we might be looking at 10-15m.

Super Mick

What about Maeda from Celtic?  That lad looked decent in the champions league last year! I'd rather see him running at Brentfords defence than see him running at ours!

Sorry just seen some other posts about him.  Should read the board before posting!

Rather kevin at LW.
But if we buy 2 LWs then maybe ...could allow Iwobi to move right and compete with the others there

Still think I like the nelson project myself though

It was the stansfield deal that meant godo had to stay as I recall fwiw. Nelson was brought in because nuameh deal failed last minute.

Agree he badly needs a loan. Weird we haven't heard of any interest though this summer. Guess we'll start proactively offering a favourable deal to clubs once if/we sign Kevin
