Quote from: jayffc on June 13, 2025, 09:06:58 AMIt does if we lose the best ever Fulham right back in our history (imo) - goes without saying ideally Tete just signs a new contract but he'll have other options so up to him.

George Cohen will have something to say about that.

In fact so might Steve Finnan.

I'd even give Duncan Jupp a shout.

Respect the hell out of all of them. All great RBs

Finnan for me the closest, but modern football is of a much higher level generally than when some of those guys played, hard to directly compare. I rate Tete higher personally, just so strong and dependable, so many times he's absolutely pocketed and dominated defensively some of the supposed top players in the prem.
Your point is taken, but George Cohen is our greatest right back ever

We shall agree to disagree. Appreciate he was part of a World Cup win, a one-club man and a top player, Sure and a great RB in his time.

Does he lock up players at the level that Tete has to face week in week out? Not so sure, the game has evolved ALOT since then, players are fitter, faster, train on a different level and there's a way bigger talent pool.

It's an unfair and difficult comparison though given they're born in different eras of course so it would get into a semantic game both sides. But this is no disrespect to Cohen (may he rest in peace) it's just how highly I rate Tete.

Agreed comparison is very difficult. Both, I think, prioritised stopping their 'winger' from crossing. Cohen played in a more open era where wingers could take on their full back without the latter having protective cover. What I like about Tete is that he takes great pleasure in his defending. Whilst Castagne is a fine footballer I'm never convinced that he has the same intensity/desire to get his man substituted.

George Cohen played when there were no subs, everyone played for 90 plus minutes on cabbage patches, and snowbound pitches. If they got injured they stayed on.
The tackle from behind had not been outlawed, and unlike today's players who rarely play a full game on what is nowadays a green Axminster carpet, and unlike today's players were not made of glass, and you got value for money.
Many played to pay their mortgages not paying for another half dozen tattoos, because they have more money than sense.
Players in George Cohens day were tougher, hardier and run that extra mile, unlike the modern milky individuals who go down holding a leg or face or whatever comes to mind first, and when the referee plays on, they miraculously get up, they have no shame and are made of butter.
George was one of the quickest full backs around and a real gentleman.
Best right back I have seen in a Fulham Shirt and a genuine legend.
That was when they played proper football and you got value for your money.
Its not the man in the fight, it's the fight in the man.  🐘

It's 2025 and your going on about something over 60 years ago start a thread about it . Leave this for transfer gossip 🙏. Looks like Liverpool are splashing serious serious money.

And to be fair I have never heard of anyone we have been connected with and they are playing for clubs in the lower divisions in Europe.
Getting very frustrated.

Are you new to supporting Fulham?

How much did they spend on transfers 60 years ago??... taking inflation into account... and applying the usual 'football % increase'... I wonder  ::wink::

Its very slow, even for us. Especially concerning a lot of (bigger) teams are really getting things started early (City Liverpool United)

Havent read anything reliable that is remotely close to us being near a new signing. However, we are generally good at keeping things under wraps. But the window re-opens 16 June so not much will happen until then

Does feel like he's run out of road but I'm not sure he'd be that keen on joining us?

Think the club world cup set a lot of the top team deals spinning early, even if they aren't competing they are trying to sign the same players.

Not overly concerned as of yet. Some of the plans for this window will likely hinge on contract renewals so I don't think too much will be done until Cairney, Tete and to a lesser extent Wilson are tied up or released.

Been discussed in prior years, but Silva link, rebuild his career & be Brazil #9 for World Cup etc all in our favour. Think we're gonna bid for him and he's going to want it.

Someone's read Frank and Spuds are after Mbuemo and connecting dots.

I can't believe that I am saying this in mid-June but some people probably need to cool their jets a little bit.

In press today that Richy would be leaving this summer and Spurs want 20m.. would be surprised if we don't come in with an offer. He is Silvas man (similar to Jol/Berbatov) and IMO would be a big coup for us and statement signing/ show of ambition. The calibre we need to compete for Europe

Richarlison Will go back to Everton I don't want to see him play for our club he is a chicken dancing cheat

Likely a spurious link, but anyway:
https://www.transferfeed.com/transfers/joel-leandro-ordonez-guerrero-club-brugge-milan/12359048

AC Milan is interested in Joel Ordóñez as a central defensive reinforcement due to possible departures of Malick Thiaw and Fikayo Tomori. The 21-year-old Ecuadorian, who currently plays for Club Brugge, is on Milan's shortlist as they seek to bolster their defense. However, Milan faces competition from several Premier League clubs including Tottenham, West Ham, Nottingham, and Fulham, as well as interest from PSG. The Rossoneri aim to secure Ordóñez amid a competitive transfer market. Transfermarkt currently estimates his market worth at 28.00 million euros.

Bit of an enigma is Richarlison. Proved his quality in the last world cup, but he's had some seasons where he can go completely off the boil. Certainly has a lot of quality.

In the short time that Ray Evans was with us, I thought that he was the best full back crosser of a ball that I've seen.

It's not slow for us at all? As mentioned - We almost never sign our first player until late July- early August?

Earliest in last 10 years I think was Palhinha in early July....it's June the 13th

I'd say I'm surprised people are already throwing out this were too slow stuff but...its the silly season thread, it is inevitable at this point 😅

it'll happen when it happens regardless, enjoy the summertime chaps and chappettes
