Agree we look very light now in CM and upfront, Muniz/Raul are going to need to stay fit all season!

FFC007

Well that has probably ended any chance of Silva staying on past this season.....

HarryBayles

Unbelievable. 23 man squad and 3 of those will miss 8 games due to the AFCON. What a complete farce.

Raul frequently looked dead on his feet in games at the back end of last season when Muniz was injured.

I'm not optimistic with our current cover, although perhaps this will force us to give youth like Loupalo-Bi a chance.

Quote from: Caedal on September 01, 2025, 09:38:30 PMVery short in CM and up front. A couple of injuries in either position and we're in huge trouble

Fingers crossed Ridgeon can show the sort of potential King is...

Hard to defend this as a positive window BUT I do genuinely believe the emergence of King will be like a £40 mill signing. Not that that gives the transfer team any excuses - just looking for the excitement here.

ESR, King, Kevin, Muniz and Chukweze all are young exciting attacking talents and with Wilson, Raul, Iwobi and Traore form more than enough firepower and definitely should be getting us a lot of goals in theory.

Midfield looking a little bare and we're relying a lot on TC / Reed's legs...

Quote from: SerbianLad on September 01, 2025, 09:18:14 PMI'd personally be delighted if George deal falls through! An inflated price, very unproven player, would rather keep Wilson/Adama.

Agreed. A blessing in disguise.

My Chelsea supporting mate really rates George and was gutted they'd let him go. He's going to be quality. £22m is a good price for someone of his promise these days.

TBH I would have preferred us ditching Chuk and bringing in George instead. Chuk has ability but is a bit of a one footed cut inside and shoot merchant: one trick pony and although its a dangerous one trick, it is easily negated by showing him on the outside.

Shame about the Bayern kid as well. Hopefully Kevin and Chuk can do the business but there really is no excuse for leaving our entire business to deadline day. Some yes, but not all as gives us less leverage if teams sense we are desperate due not having done any business prior.

Angus Telford

So with Chukuweze being a loan at this point, that's a net spend of approx £20m for the third year in a row. Which is pretty much the difference between our revenue and wage bill. So the club is just self-sustaining at this point.

Why are we looking light in CM? I know Silva said they we will have to replace Pereira, but it has already been argued here that Iwobi could be his replacement with Kevin as our main LW. I am not talking about the quality of the squad, but depth-wise we have 2 players for each position and 7 players in midfield for 3 places.

Yes, we should probably have got a 3rd ST, but we had Vinicius last year and we rarely needed him (or perhaps we didn't really trust him). No idea if there is a free agent out there we can add as a 3rd ST - if not, we will have to wait till January for this.

Marco has tried Wilson as a striker a few times in the behind closed door friendlies if I remember correctly. Adama has played as a striker sometimes too in his past and I'm pretty sure he even started there as a youth player at Barcelona. Kevin has some experience as a striker too. We play in a system with one striker, unless both are unavailable, we don't have a problem at all. Look at Vini last season, he barely played even when we had one striker available.

CM I agree with and I'm very disappointed with that.

BestOfBrede

We best ensure we keep King in Jan window, if he keeps playing a blinder for us then we know some club will turn his head!

Chuk may not miss those 8 games, he's hardly been a regular for Nigeria in the last couple of years. But it's definitely a risk. When do they go off to AFCON? Will have to be a busy January to make up for the lack of numbers. A shockingly poor window from all involved.

No. Smokescreens in the media, sure.
But placing formal bids, reaching agreements with the other club and all things that has to take place just to set a deal up - just to put pressure on deals that are basically already done. Just no. Thats not how things work

I think that twitter post about his contract being terminated was a wind up.

Are you suggesting he wont be in the squad at all? Seems a bit far fetched considering he is 26 and got 46 caps for Nigeria

In my opinion this has been a shockingly poor window from the club. I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt until the window closed, but this is simply not good enough.

This was the season when we actually had a chance to make a challenge for a European spot. We had retained most of a settled, decent squad, with most players being in their prime. We probably just needed 4-5 good signings to realistically be within reach of a European spot. Instead we get weekly updates from Silva with complaints about the club missing out on basically ALL their targets. And now this... How is it even possible for a professional football club to mess up things so badly? Whoever is responsible for our recruitment should be looking for a new job tomorrow.

Realistically, this season:

-We probably have enough quality to avoid relegation, but the lack of depth in some positions is cause for concern. If we have poor luck with injuries (especially during AFCON) we may end up uncomfortably close to the relegation zone. Those 5 points VAR already stole from us can turn out to be critical in a relegation fight, and I don't expect the bottom three to be anywhere near as poor as last season.

-We probably DON'T have the necessary squad depth to challenge for a European spot, which is a HUGE missed opportunity.

I'm giving this transfer window 4/10. And that's only because the two players we DID sign look great. Kevin in particular looks like a potentially world class winger. But this transfer window was really a huge missed opportunity to take the next step upwards towards Europe.

What about the other potential situation I mentioned, i.e. him being a backup option if one of those two deals falls through?

C Block

Just to keep things in perspective for those on here having a tantrum, there were 38 deal sheets placed at 7pm for Premier League players, so it wasn't just us,
And our two deals collapsed because Leeds United moved far too late in the window to get the Harry Wilson deal done, so again not just us making late moves,
Having said that it's not a great window is it, but thanks to King,Tettey,Kevin and Chukwueze signing deals it's not bad either.

Rambler

I can't give this window more than a 3.

It's been handled appallingly, we look completely bare in midfield and we left it far too late.

The only reason it's not a 0 is that Kevin has the potential to be world class.

Vini barely came on even with Raul looking tired, I guess Silva didnt see much in Vini. I would like to see Wilson play more up top, as he does for Wales often, tend to find MS does not play to Wilsons strengths, he could easily play off Muniz/Raul. As for Adama, guy couldnt hit the Hammy end if he tried
