Loan is probably more realistic than a permanent transfer, unless we've already been negotiating with someone besides Pepi. Not sure which midfielder is available on loan that would improve us.
I´d Take a risk on Kalvin Phillips on loan. And probably send Reed on loan to a championship club.

Pepi always felt like more of a commercial decision, with the thought that with a US world cup having an American striker would pay itself back in shirt sales.

From a footballing perspective, I'm not sure it's a bad thing to save our €37m. I'd much rather spend that on a CM to play the no. 8 role that we all crave.

Problem with Phillips like Sterling is match fitness? You won't possibly see the best of him until season is all but over. With Phillips just think his unlikely to reproduce the form he had at Leeds.

Personally I'd rather let the club do their job, if they feel they can get someone on their list then do be it but I'd rather be slightly frustrated than sign another Mitroglu

Phillips career sadly has fallen off a cliff, I don't know what happened as he was great for England and absolutely loved at Leeds - I think it's telling that Leeds haven't gone back in for him.

I feel bad for him, but I don't see good enough reason to try. Nobody has taken him on after his season at Ipswich either.

You'd be replacing one championship level player with another one, except the one we already have is match fit and probably on infintely smaller wages

If that's the case, then surely Josh Sargent would be cheaper and easier to get. He's been in the English game for years so it should not take him longer than Pepi to be PL-ready.

Kalvin Phillips is finished at this level, please can we not entertain that old chestnut!

Funnily enough the man on the train said the same thing. Flog plenty of Pepi merchandise stateside and in the Club shop if you can get in it, then the season ticket roll out/block purchasing and then tag onto the World Cup. I am fairly certain footballing prowess wasn't mentioned at all.

Rather stick with Reed,than him.

Can breathe a sigh of relief as it seems Phillips is going to United, Sheffield United

Don't we have 2 domestic loans unused? Surely that's what we need to use...

Who would be out of favour and worth the punt though? Realistically you're looking at a small pool of players that are stopgaps and their parent clubs would want them playing regularly

Silva more or less said yesterday if we cannot get our targets done then so be it, we will cope with what we have. Appears that he will not accept second best.

Trusty Steed

I still can't get my head around why we can't purchase Pepi and loan him back

Will this window have Marco running for the Hills. At present we certainly haven't matched he's demands.

Not a fan of that say he picks up a serious injury, you would need a clause stating it can be cancelled and if I were the selling club I wouldn't want that as all the costs wil, sit with the club that has loaned him back. Always seems a strange deal that

Anyway seems we will be quiet today

Nick Harvey Elliot from Villa, who don't seem to want to play him much... All they have done is take him off of Liverpool to weaken them... no sure what wages he is currently on ... He's out on loan anyway - Midfielder who's attitude may have improved now??

Elliot is stuck, can't play for another club because he's played for Liverpool and Villa already, Villa don't want to play him as it would force them to buy, Liverpool don't want him back
