Summer Silly Season Transfer Thread 2024

I guess the players the club aspires to sign might feel, along with their agents. That they could do better. Those at a crossroads in their career knowing that chances will be few and fair between more likely to sign and those not scouted or fancied by other clubs easier to persuade.
Those involved in transfers have two goals to get the player and get the one Marco wants. I suspect the latter is the more important, as Marco is probably without doubt our greatest asset. Hence the clubs apparent sluggishness in signing people.

Yup this is always something a club like Fulham is up against unless we somehow manage to somehow win something and get European football. If you're in for top players, the ones at the top of our list will probably more often than not at this point, ship themselves around to see if a more prestigious or bigger club might be interested at the same price were willing to pay, ideally with European football or a very good chance of challenging for it, and their agents will no doubt dig about to see what other possibilities there might be knowing they have the Fulham bird in hand.

Just look at Willian and his leaving it late to tie himself in last year, and again putting himself out there in the window again this year.Think that's The reality of chasing some of these bigger targets we all want sometimes. Players like ESR who've played champs league football for a big prem club will naturally be at a point they'll want to hunt around a bit longer than others who aren't at a bigger club. So it's a matter of how long you stick it out, sometimes the wait will be worth it, sometimes not. Fascinating game this transfer business

Quote from: Somerset Fulham on July 11, 2024, 10:37:20 AMI still can't see us getting ESR and I have no idea how we are apparent frontrunners either!

Don't get me wrong, it would be brilliant I think but how have we found ourselves at the front of the queue?

We have a track record for signing top players from big clubs whose careers have stalled, that under other circumstances wouldn't be attainable:

For example Van Der Sar, Berbatov, Pereira, Leno.

For Palhinha he was expected to go to a bigger side but there were no concrete offers, the timing was right for us.

Anyway, my point is that you never know who we'll get so it's worth being ambitious.

I wouldn't say Van Der Star's career had stalled, but yes we certainly have a track record of turning players around. You can add Danny Murphy to the list as well.

Ryan Babel and Damien Duff may deserve a mention.

Oh I do get it, but most of those players were the other side of 25 and a lot of them were on a downward trajectory when we signed them.

I wouldn't say that ESR is that?

Either way, I am more than happy that we are being linked with players of this quality.

I know what you mean, and I think the cynic in me is saying, this is agent talk, we're interested but he's leaked it really early to flag bigger clubs to come in for him.

It's also, and I agree, different to downward trajectory as he's not on the down, he's recovering from an injury. I've seen nothing to see he's declined in his ability. Still a wonderful player, just has a question mark on his longevity to match fitness. Rightly or wrongly.

Well the question is will he get game time at a bigger club. He really hasn't achieved anything yet. He has tons of ability though and I think he could legitimately become a £100m player. I think he'll do well with us and especially under Marco Silva. I think the deal would work for all parties.

Everyone now knows we have a chunk of money to spend and will over inflate the prices

He may be younger but clearly the team has moved on whilst he's been injured, he will only start if there are injuries or squad rotation. There will I'm sure be plenty of interest but we may be able to convince him.

I think that everyone already knew this was extremely likely to be the case, so I don't think it will have an effect now. Everybody always tries to over inflate prices anyway.

Allegedly bid for Vini Souza https://x.com/venecasagrande/status/1811462022283817025

Offer rejected for Semih (they want 30m euros) https://x.com/FulhamTransfer/status/1811460893936333168

And interest in winger Francisco Conceição https://www.hitc.com/incredible-ace-watched-by-chelsea-set-for-price-hike-as-38m-clause-becomes-active/
Lot of bigger clubs after him though apparently. Hopefully Joao put in a good word

Fulham sent a proposal to Sheffield United for 18 million euros to sign Vinicius Souza. The offer was declined, but talks continue. The 25-year-old midfielder, created by Flamengo, stood out even though Sheffield was not doing well in the Premier League (they were relegated). As Vinicius Souza has a high salary, the Blades want to trade the Brazilian.

Not a fan personally, bad attitude but he makes a lot of tackles so it makes sense to get him in alongside Andre.

If we get André could play well with him. He's obviously a big tackler but reading Sheffield United fans comments pretty rubbish on the ball. Stats suggest the same as well. Andre is not a big tackler and brilliant on the ball so could work okay but really not sure about Souza based on much of last year. Sounds like he had a stormer in a game or two but that was it. Perhaps just playing in a shocking team and Marco could do better with him.  Luis and Andre is my dream but not heard any rumours for a good few weeks on Luis. Luis looks to be a big tackler and very good on the ball.

Tbf Andre is still a decent disruptor and not an awful tackler - just not AS good as Joao, but then few are.
He's less a sliding in out and out tackler but still puts himself about a lot there.

Perhaps it would make sense indeed to pair a Souza with an Andre. Win it, pass it to Andre, let him beat the press or distribute wide type situation.

Agree I'd love Florentino Luis but he'd probably be far more expensive and already turned us down last year so doubt it'll happen.

Yeah agree with all of this mate. As you say I wonder if Luis is out of reach. Andre as you say has his attributes defensively and could work well with Lukic who has half decent tackling stats etc.

Andre could compliment Souza very well however as Luckic isn't really a defensive midfielder despite us using him as one when Joao wasn't there (and he did pretty well). Souza is a beast defensively not just in tackles but is in the 95th percentile or above for blocks, clearances and aerial s. Just so weird which such ridiculous defensive stats do many Sheffield United fans seem so down on him. These comments are slightly terrifying:

https://x.com/The_Bladesman/status/1811463644460241313

Similar on their forum most of last year. Then again Ajax fans were laughing at Bassey, Man U fans thought AP was useless and same with West Ham and Diop, etc. Perhaps playing in a better team with a much better manager he could do well with someone like Andre next to him rather than Oli Norwood. Certainly seems to be the best replacement defensively. Prob well under £20 million and only in £30k a week salary so very cheap overall.

Yikes, yes as you say, not great reading. But then as you say, we've seen many such examples work out differently at Fulham. Though anything too far over that 15m seems to have potential to be a major overpay.

True though that he'd be alongside vastly superior players and staff here. Must have sucked playing for Sheffield last year so if the club thing he's worth it when paired alongside a more creative deep lying CM then let's see how it goes just hope it's not one or the other

Somerset Fulham

He's not exactly young, but the other lad at Sheffield United, Hamer looked decent in an exceptionally poor side.

An excellent back up in the centre of the park, I think.
