Quote from: hovewhite on July 23, 2024, 03:56:51 PMI think the point I'm making is I can't see another striker being signed and I'm hoping that muniz and Raul score 20 between them otherwise we could be fighting in the bottom 5.

We just need to make sure that there are at least 1-2 signings in other attacking positions. Those players do need to have a good potential goal contribution - like Smith-Rowe, Wilfried Zaha or Bruun Larsen (who scored 6 goals for a poor Burnley team last season). We have linked with all of these three with at some point since the end of the season...
until the window shuts it's ifs and buts.

So you think it has legs so therefore you think the Khans are selling up... eh? Birmingham might want him but no way he goes for 5m as Ive seen gossiped. Fulham arent a charity and Stansfield is 10-12m minimum and that is too much for League 1.

I can see where Cottages is coming from. We just seem a lot more efficient getting players out the door than in the door. I just said on another thread, our net spend since promotion as it stands, halfway into our third summer window, is £19m (based on Transfermarkt figures). We'd need to spend £200m this summer just to bring our net spend into line with Bournemouth's over the same period, a club which surely has even lower revenues than us. It raises the question.

But for all their spend Bournemouth haven't drastically performed better than us so you could argue that our spend has been far more cost effective.

If anything we've outperformed them. Yes they finished a point above us last year but year before we were tenth and no hint of a relegation crisis all year unlike them.

Also, I'm not sure I want the club to have a net spend of minus £200 mill over a couple of years... it's hardly sustainable (especially if there's no material sporting advantage)

They came up with an inferior team to us, unsurprisingly finished substantially below us in season #1. Then essentially equalled us in season #2. Look at the odds going into this season, for the first time at the start of the season they're projected/expected to finish above us.

So they're on an upward trajectory, we're on a plateau or even regressing year-on-year.

You could also take our respective squads' average age into account - their success arguably has more longevity than ours on that basis too.
Yes.  Bournemouth have brought in some really good young players from The Championship that have improved them and are now worth more than twice what they paid for them.

I think we should have had a Joao replacement in by now in time for pre-season. To need to replace so many key players and raise the level across the squad is a tall order.

We're a bit of a laughing stock in the way we go about our business.

Sorry but who exactly is laughing at us?

I used that more as a turn of phrase in how I perceive it, but I know many people who are bemused - not least our own fans and probably our manager.

This is incorrect.

It will appear in the accounts we publish/submit to the PL this season - maybe thats the reason some people are confused about this - but they will be the accounts for last season.

Can one of the FFP gurus confirm? As I swear this was hot topic and it ended up being it was falling outside of last window and the expectation was that it was falling into this window cycle?
I am not an expert of the PSR (FFP) rules but I think you account for player sales within the year it is received so for Mitro will be accounted for in last seasons accounts which will be reported this summer and make up part of the past 3 years rolling PSR calculation.

The money received wasn't included in last seasons PSR as we received it during the season and therefore hadn't been reported in a set of accounts.

they have a better squad than us right now for sure with some depth and younger age profile. I just hope we get some signings done soon as the season is coming fast.

I thought PSR/FFP accounting years run to 30 June which is what caught Forest out?

If so, Mitro's fee will be included In the 2023/24 accounting year as he moved in Aug 2023, but Palhinha's in 2024/25 as he moved on 11 July this year.

We bought Castagne and Iwobi after selling Mitro so the bulk of that money is gone anyway.

btffc

I think the confusion here is that the sale does get put into the current year's accounts but those aren't made public until the following year. So while Mitro's transfer has already been accounted for in 23/24 books, we won't see that until March 2025

Yes that's my understanding.
I've seen a few posts on here saying sales are only booked in the next year's accounts and no one is able to explain this when i ask.
Seems to be one of those self-perpetuating forum/twitter fallacies. IIRC something similar happened with the claim that Parker was the first person to play Chambers as a DM.

I think there is confusion over this because essentially the assessment is done after the year a sale is made.

From all the reading I have done I think it is this:

The Mitro sale was made in the 23/24 season and the profit after any remaining amortised fee for him is deducted will go onto the 23/24 accounts.

The 3 year assessment period for the below is then submitted at the end of 23/24:

21/22 - championship year
22/23
23/24

The confusion comes I think because the assessment is then done after the period is finished. This makes sense as you can't do it in the period as until it is finished you would not know what all the outgoings and incomings were. Up to the 30th of June this year clubs could still of bough or sold for the period above.

Clubs then need to put all their accounts together and submit them which takes time and the authorities need to review it all which also takes time. Was it around Xmas last year or just before it all kicked off with Forrest and Everton? Expect them the assessment for the above period to be done then sometime before Xmas. They key then is although the assessment is being done in the 24/25 season the Mitro money is still banked in 23/24 when he was sold.

The really big question is if we had not sold him would we be in trouble this November/December when the assessment is finalised. Strangely all of last summer there were no rumblings that we needed to sell. But considering Marco said we had near 0 funds in the Jan window after selling Mitro that year this would suggest that this actually saved us from a potential points deduction this year.

No, it just means we wouldn't have bought Iwobi and Castagne.

so with just selling Palhinia we can spend that money now as it's the same as mitros fee.

Well off the top of my head we bought Bassey and Jiminez for £25-£30m before we sold Mitro last season so hopefully we'll have at least that again on top of the JP money; plus we've got Palhinha and most likely Willian's wages off the books too.

That said, I've no idea what wriggle room our 3 year aggregate gives us this time around; plus the change from the old FFP model to the new "soft wage cap" version is likely to be a worse situation for us given our wage bill was something like 103% of our revenue last year. Who knows...

Potentially re Iwobi and Castagne yeah. Who know what assessments the club had made at that point. The current rules are really ambiguous for what and what isn't allowed. The new proposed rules for 25/26 are a lot clearer as far as I can see which is a positive. Until it became clear that Forrest and Everton were getting done under the current rules there seemed to be less panic around all clubs. The ambiguity around what mitigating circumstances for income and cost seemed to make clubs think that they could push/bend the rules.

Yes the JP money is banked for the 24/25 season on top of the Mitro money for the three year period we are now into below:

22/23
23/24
24/25

The massive key here is that we got rid of the championship year. Our allowable losses for the previous 3 year period were only £83 million as a year in the champ is is only £13m vs £35m in allowable losses in the prem.

13+35+35 = 83

This year we are allowed to lose the full £105 million for the three year period above.

Added to that is the fact that we made a MASSIVE loss in the championship year which is now no longer being assessed. So our loss for this 3 year period is a huge amount lower as we have managed to last two years so well and have had prem income and our allowable losses are a huge amount higher vs last years 3 year period. Plus we have made two huge sales. We have also removed huge salaries for Mitro. Joao and Willian which is just as important. Essentially then we should have a tonne of money to spend this summer vs previous seasons where we were on the edge because of that championship year. Surviving for two years in the prem is massive as any championship year is a huge weight around the neck with the current rules. The proposed new rules in 25/26 are very different as they look at a single year for cost rather than 3. The proposal as far as I can make out still however accounts for sales in the last 3 years so the Mitro and JP sales will still be a huge help if the new rules are confirmed.

Muniz clearly being backed as our main striker option - upgraded and announced as number 9. A statement of confidence evidently. Good for him, hope he continues to thrive.
Gamble in my opinion, hope I'm wrong.

It's a gamble we'd be mad not to take for many reasons IMO. But mainly, imagine buying a big name striker to relegate the geezer to our bench after that display in the second half of the season.

Chalobah being touted by chelsea for 30-35m

Hmmm think hell go for less end of window - 20m-25m range maybe? Especially with leaving him behind theyre hardly helping themselves in terms of running up his value by leaving him out of their US tour.

Think I'd take more of a chance for another Danish International winger Jacob Bruun Larsen 25 at Hoffenheim but seemed to do well on his loan to Burnley last season.

Another £30+ million  ::cry::

This market is ridiculous. Another who is injury prone. I think if not many interested at that price yeah £25m is sensible but just depends if a bigger club is willing to pay it. I suspect they might be so let's see. I rate him as do all the Chelsea fans. Tosin has stuffed us here however. I don't think there is that much difference between them and if he ends up being £30m+ not good. Anyone in Europe comes in we prob don't get him. The Serbian lad at £12m is looking a better and better deal. Can this window get anymore depressing at this point.
