Let's also not forget, the more we spend now, the tighter the restriction net gets in following windows. Mengi makes more sense to me.

Does feel like the club is going big to back Silva this window maybe to try and show we can match his ambition / keep him longer.

Also, the good thing about signing younger players as we have been is that spending restrictions might be tighter in the next few windows because of how much we are looking to spend now, but the players we have bought are much more likely to have a higher resale value which in turn is more likely to help fund future spending.

With a bit of luck with player development/avoiding injuries, this is a much more sustainable strategy.

For those interested, apparently 19 yrs old and a left winger by the looks of it..  would play in to my belief we need another winger. Looks an exciting although raw prospect.

I'd also be happy with one more RCB and a 1 or 2 CMs then leaving it at that signings wise.

We need to learn the lesson of not blocking development of key youth players (O'Riley key example) and leave just enough space for the likes of King and Stansfield to get minutes/games, otherwise we show no path to break through.

Admittedly we've also had some bad luck with our best youngsters not choosing to sign new deals (Dembele, Carvalho, Elliot) but given the evolving world of PSR/soft wage caps etc., developing your own talent becomes ever more important (think how beneficial the odd sale such as Pat Roberts and Sess have been: we brought in TC for 1/4 of the reported £12m we netted for Pat).

Looks like Muniz would have to tackle him to get the ball....

A double signing announcement?

I doubt we'll see him signed today and unsure about the medical either.. this one has come completely out of the blue and Fabrizio can talk about players in the same terms for a week before real progress is made.. who knows.

Hopefully we'll see ESR finally announced.

If this is true, he must have had his medical and signed papers, and it's just awaiting the official announcement.

If he does go, that's £25-£30m.

ESR assuming he comes in to play at LW and replace Willian.

Still would need another number 10.

Business so far is good: Sessegnon, Cuenca, ESR but we would be rebuilding at a lot of key positions.

Andre, A New Number 10, Another Number 8 (Scott?), Another RCB? still to follow.

I don't think Pereira is a priority to sell and tbh, I don't think it'd be a good idea.

I think we take his high press and set pieces for granted and another season with the likes of ESR, perhaps Andre, Mctominay etc and having developed a stronger understanding of Jimenez and Muniz can only be a good thing.

You really don't want to mess with the team too aggressively in one summer as you run the risk of it all falling apart quite quickly if it doesn't work. We don't need to put pressure on ourself in that way.

Quote from: FFC1987 on July 31, 2024, 08:30:38 PMThat feels cheap for a starter in La Liga at his age. Is he running down his contract or is the contract length short then?

Didn't have a brilliant season last year. Villareal let in a lot of goals. Only ones with a worse defensive record ended up last and second last.

Did you ever watch a minute of him play?

Presumably this is t aimed at me but if so, no. I'd never even heard of him as I don't tend to see La Liga sides outside of CL. Hopefully my post regarding why he was of low (ish) value doesn't come across as questioning his footballing ability. I was just struggling to appreciate why a reg starter for a decent La Liga outfit, that's also young, was demanding such a low fee. Presumably it's to do with contract length or something, hence that question.

As usual, if Silva wants him, and it's not breaking the bank, sign him up!

Shows he's a good passer of the ball and better at tackling & heading than Ream. For games where we'd benefit from a Ream like CB he'd be a good option

Really interesting graphics, really does show  that he may be a bit of a hidden gem.

One statistical analysis of his game suggested he'd also be a very good option to have off the bench for closing games out when we're under pressure as he's got good aerial ability and height as well as clearance stats.

I don't see any situation in which Pereira moves to Marseille. We'd demand too much for him and he's said himself he wants to play Champions League (which they got nowhere near last year).
