Quote from: Angus Telford on June 17, 1975, 10:16:08 PMYou may be right, but ITKs on this forum said last year the deal was as good as done at 34m (not sure whether that's EUR or GBP) and they've said on this thread that we tried to renegotiate a lower fee following his recent knee injury.

The FLU president also explicitly said our offer a couple of weeks ago was less than EUR 25m.

Not saying any of that is gospel by any stretch of the imagination, just putting it out there.

Unsurprisingly, my opinion is that unless the margin between us is more than £5m, we should just be getting this done and not haggling anymore. The delay means him joining us with no rest between the half season he's played in Brazil and the full season ahead of us, which will have an impact later in our season, and/or missing the start of our season. We also risk someone else coming in with a better offer with every day that passes. If he turns out to be a good deal at £20m, he'd also have been a good deal at £25m, and if he's a disappointment at £25m, he'd also have been a disappointment at £20m.

Of course others will have a different view as discussed ad nauseam on this thread, but that's mine.

The fees I used are simply those I have seen mentioned on here. My point was it's not implausible Fluminense tried to squeeze more money out of us whereas we thought we had a deal. But it may not be this at all.

Your view that a difference of £5M is not worth haggling over is one I'm sure you are not alone in holding. However, I shall return to a point I put to you a couple of weeks back: Would you be as happy to see us adopt the same approach to purchasing McTominay and pay £5M more than we value him at for the simple reason Manchester United are asking for it? I suspect not. The course of action you would like the Club to take seems to depend upon your opinion of the player. Fair enough. But your opinion - Andre is an exciting signing, McTominay is unimaginative - isn't necessarily that of our manager. Marco may be keen on both players. In which case, it's reasonable to think the Club will use much the same yardstick for both in its transfer negotiations.

rusty shackleford

Pay 5m extra for Andre and McT just to get them done and dusted. Thats 10 million pounds. The same people will then be complaining on august 31 when we still have holes to plug and no money to plug them

mrmicawbers

I'm of the opinion we have a decent team to sign players that are suitable for us

This thread is mental, love it.

I have just spoken to my friend who is close to the club and he is still adamant we sign both Andre, McTom and a keeper.

Reading all the stuff on Andre, I am sure that we are just going to wait them out. They need the money otherwise they are in turmoil. It was clear Yday vs Benfica that we needed that metronome at the base to dictate play. Andre is that man and I am so sure the management know that. I can't see the window ending where he does not join us.

My inkling with McTom is that he needs a bit of convincing but will want to join. United need a better replacement ready to go (Urgate) to let him leave. Going off rumours in the press with the United plans, but I know MS wants him.

No idea about keepers as not a priority at all, but can't see (nor would it be wise to put) big money going toward a a Leno backup.

Anyway, crazy couple of days - some great players through the door and a victory against a champions league side. What more could we want.

Well we all knew it was 99.9% sure BS but it was fun while it lasted I suppose. He makes a good point even if we don't trust him:

Know what it's like to get your head in a twist in sagas #ffc, but would just say, it doesn't even have to be me, but people like Nizaar, Jacobs, Andrade, etc, people who have been reliable on this from the start, just keep our eye on them and ignore the rest - it's just noise.

Although he's right really not liking this Talbot right now for continually urinating on my bonfire.  ::angry::

Perhaps we should just petition/pester the journalist who informed us accurately about what was going on with Muniz's transfer to find out the latest with Andre and just have him as our go to guy in Brazil...

Perhaps FFN reads the board.. lol. Hopefully something reliable comes out of it.

Quote from: OZ-WHITE on August 03, 2024, 11:23:34 PMThe other factor at play here is that if Sessegnon is on the bench he can cover Left Back , Left Wing and if needed can cover left Defensive Midfield as well , if McTominay comes in and Lukic is the starting left Defensive Midfield and McTominay is the starting right Defensive Midfield and Reed and Sessegnon are on the bench - do we actually need Andre ?

Yes because we don't really have anyone who can sit deep and dictate play. It was clear yesterday that when we ran out of puff and Benfica pressed us harder, we lost all control of midfield and didn't really have anyone comfortable enough to drop in by the CB's and make passes. Lukic is okay at it and that's not McTominay's strength either, plus Reed is not very good at passing in my opinion so it hamstrings us not having someone with that profile as a long term option. Sess has also never played as a DM so not sure why we'd want a square peg in a round hole there either?

I rate Tosin and think he was well suited for a Silva team. But we all knew he was never going to stay. Curious to know how much more money he is getting. If it's considerably more it's hard to blame him too much, but I definitely won't be rooting for him at Chelsea.

Actually don't even think it's that much. Million, maybe two. I really think Europe and a "big 6" club was more important

Another layer to the dynamic that may play into the andré deal. Fluminense are seemingly going on a bit of a spending spree atm to get themselves out of relegation and are also lining up another striker from Uruguay.

For context 20million reais is around £2.7m

If over £100k a week isn't that much then you must be a wealthy man!

This is from a Brazilian journo who covers Fluminense... when he said Andre wasn't playing the last game he said it was because he was staying to strengthen his right leg.. which fans seem to have taken as a joke and replied with our logo, to which he laughed at.

The difference between our offer and what he signed with Chelsea for was far less than £100k/week. It was 10-20k max. Yes that is still a whole lot of money but it's not a huge amount relative to what top footballers make.

IloveFFC

I was looking at the players we still have on our books.
We have several for sale and others to send on loan.

Examples:Kevin Mbabu, Carlos Vinicius, Ibane Bowat, Harvey Araújo, Luke Harris( looks like is off to Birmingham), Adrion Pajaziti.

I think King and Stansfield we have to see in the last week of the market, but King can play in the under 21 team and training with the first team.

I think Mbabu, Bowat, Harvey and Vinicius should Leave permanently and Harris and Pajaziti should be loaned out

Harvey Araujo produced, I thought, an excellent performance in our P.L.2 Cup Final win over Spurs. In my opinion, there is no reason for us not to keep him beyond this summer. Based on the, admittedly, little I've seen of him overall, I don't think it's possible yet to conclude he won't make the grade with us. I'd say we risk losing more by releasing him now than keeping him on our books.

DM

As far as I'm aware the André deal isn't done. Fluminense want a big chunk upfront and Fulham so far haven't been willing to do it.
Talks continue

shameless scousers sign him, don't play him in the right position and then have the cheek to want more than triple what they paid for him despite stunting his progression and career

Well, they hardly paid market value to begin with, since he was out of contract, so what they paid to us would have zero impact on his current valuation I would assume.

Hate to say it, but maybe this will be a lesson to other youngsters.
