My admin is an avid Villa fan who rates Carlos and said he would put him above anything we currently have at the club.  However, he also said that the lad is constantly injured which is why he hasn't played.

He also mentioned that he would be surprised if this happened very quickly.  Mings still isn't fit and possibly done so it would leave Villa incredibly light at centre half if they didn't find a replacement first.

Good to hear a good report. I believe he played most of last season after a nightmare injury the season before and they finished top 4 so surely can't be that bad! The ability in the air is a concern as Tosin was so strong. Does look a good passer. Just need to merge him and Diop into one and we are sorted!

Although the fee is less we surely only give him a 3 year contract at his age. 3 years of 15 million is £5 million a year for amortised fee. Same then as 5 years at £25 million. Add his massive wage on top if anything it could be worse so not really freeing up funds.

I doubt we spend £15m on him. It will probably be around £10m. If we spend more than that I think we should go after a young player and extend the budget out.

Also a lower fee frees up funds for other targets.

It might not free up much funds because his contract will likely be shorter. I doubt the transfer will be spread over 5 yrs like others.

Not entirely sure where to put this but West Ham are supposedly going to complete the Wan-Bissaka signing in the next few days then United will sign his replacement thereafter which likely means they will be down a man when we play them.

Porthogs FC

Silva has shown he can extend CB's usefulness in the PL until age 35-36. Wouldn't be surprised if contract is 4 + 1

This. The season before Marco we called for reams head, three years later he's seen as a club legend. Whatever decision we make, just let the man cook, Marco knows what he is doing.

I hope we find a good middle ground that respects Fluminense but also allows us to sign Andre soon. A good deed now could go a long way in the future should they have any other players come through of similar quality, plus I'd like to think there's a right thing to do and not going to the bottom rung of the ladder with the lowest offer would be nice to see the club do.

But he isn't constantly injured, he's had one major injury in his entire career and two minor ones. He played 38 times for Villa last season.

I am only repeating what I have been told and considering the amount of time he has been injured in comparison to time spent at Villa, I can understand why he said what he said.  I was also told that with Pau Torres and Konsa both fit, he wouldn't have played 38 games last season despite being a good centre half.

Yeah not sure where the OP's info is from, whoever said he was injured all the time is making things up and exaggerating them quite a lot.

Here's his record for playing last season:

https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/diego-carlos/leistungsdaten/spieler/329145/plus/0?saison=2023

Wasn't in the squad for just six games and was on the bench for five for whatever reasons as Villa got to the CL.

Played the full 90, 18 times and played 70+ mins another game.

Interestingly, villa suffered some of their worst defeats and results with him out of the team.

Notably

lost 4-0 to spurs (carlos played 5 mins)
lost 3-1 to newcastle (on the bench)
lost 2-0 to nottingham forest (played 12 mins)
lost 3-0 to liverpool (played 19 mins)
lost 5-1 to newcastle (played 26 mins)

Considering he played so little in those games and Villa lost 10 games all of last season, it's better for them when he was in the team then not. God knows why he was left out of the squad or starting 11, perhaps tactic choices, but it doesn't seem to have served them very well.

Sorry, but that's a really strange thing to say.

Other than Tim Ream's renaissance, how has Silva shown he can "extend a centre back's usefulness until 35-36"?
He's a great manager but you make him sound more like an alchemist!

In fairness he took Ream, who we all thought had significant limitations at a PL level and did really help him have a renaissance in his later years, extending his career significantly.

Carlos has already proven he's got top level quality, playing for Sevilla, doing well at Villa and playing at a good PL level. If Marco can sustain that or help him improve, then he's got a couple of years at least in him, maybe 3. We wouldn't pay a £10m+ fee surely if we only were signing him for 1 year.

The only way they can win is to buy all the keepers in the world.

Of course!

ffc_forever

Chelsea have seen Tosin's defending and decided that it's best to play 6 keepers at once to get him out the $h1t...

hovewhite

All those keepers can see us going for a loan from the Tennant's to replace Rodak.

Looks like English Footballer Dominic Solanki is joining Tottenham Hotspur.
We could have done with him, but i expect price is out of our budget.
Nevertheless he is a match winner and a real handful for defenders.
