We could have done with him, but i expect price is out of our budget.
Nevertheless he is a match winner and a real handful for defenders.

I hope Bournemouth doesn't come for Muniz

filham

8keepers .they plan to position them about a yard apart on the goal line in an 8-2-1 formation.

They and other clubs will naturally come sniffing around.
We could actually do with another striker, unless we can bring in attacking midfield players who can score goals.
Especially if Stansfield leaves and i hope he doesn't as he has potential.
That is why Traore staying fit is vital to our team and should be a starter, pace and power is worth its weight in gold.

I share the same views on Stanfield,Traore who I think will be massive for us this season.

Further 'evidence' of the 'value' to be had in the transfer window if you wait a bit is Nketiah. Earlier in the summer when we were rumoured to be interested, Arsenal were supposed to be looking for £40-£50m. I see it reported today they're now apparently looking to let him go to Marseille on loan, with an obligation to buy for £25m.

Can't help feeling that this is a one-off window for clubs like us with a few quid in their pockets to make hay whilst some big clubs are strapped because they're finally taking FFP/PSR seriously, having been spooked by the various points deductions last season.

Sadly, Bournemouth have probably now joined us in the 'cash to spend' club with the crazy fee received for Solanke, but knowing the way Levy works he's probably done a deal to pay it off at a fiver a week anyway.

Cannot understand why The Club don't say Stansfield is not for sale - really valuable to us in present circumstances.

Maybe because he is for sale. Really odd he had no minutes in Portugal. We will see if he plays at all today but my fear is Marco has decided he is surplus to requirements.

He's not surplus. He just wants to play consistently.
Also the club are aware a sale of anything around 8/10m could be another 25m players incoming.

The only way they can win is to buy all the keepers in the world.

Does that include Zoo Keepers
With Chelsea, who knows!

Yeah a bit concerning. All say he's useless in the air and stats back that up. Pretty poor defensive stats all round. Looks a decent passer. Sounds like he had the odd stormer but generally not great. At £8m + £4m in add ons maybe worth a punt but £100k a week wages with fee on top a huge concern at his age. They want £15m plus add ons and just seems like way too much with the salary on top. Is weird as he did play loads for a champions league qualifying club.

Surely Chelsea drop Chalobah near the end of the window. Chelsea fans gutted to lose him vs Villa fans waiting to drive Carlos to us and obviously plenty of years ahead of him. None of the options look great in any way really for various reasons. Crazy how hard it seems to be to find a decent RCB.
Don't like the sound of useless in the air as he would potentially play instead of Diop.
The rest of out defence are not great aerially.

Think anyone saying Nketiah would cost £50m would have been laughed out the room. As far as i can tell it's gone from a reported 30m GBP in June to a loan and 30m EUR (26m GBP)  obligation to buy for Marseille now.

Bournemouth have already spent more than us this window, our transfer strategies have been poles apart since promotion and I worry they'll progress ahead of us in the coming years because they've built a good, young squad.

Comparing our transfers with Bournemouth is an interesting one. Last two windows they've spent significantly more than us without major sales, and a smaller income - their stadium is tiny.

We've had two major sales with Mitro and Joao, so surely based on this we ought to have a lot of room to spend.

I see no reason whatsoever why Muniz would want to move to Bournemouth of all clubs. He's at a club that gave him his chance, a manager who convinced him to come to the UK, living in London, surrounded by Brazilian/Portuguese speaking friends, we just gave him the number 9 shirt, Bournemouth are not a step-up of a club level from Fulham. If he leaves he'd presumably only actively want to do so if there was European football or trophies on the line at this point.

Additionally we have zero reason to want to move him on unless for some obscene amount of money. We aren't struggling for cash, and hey, if they did stump up some 50m or something silly it's not like we couldn't find some serious strikers for that money anyway (but regardless I don't think remotely we'd be interested in selling)

It would take an insanely high fee for us to even consider it at this, art which point we'd

IF it were being considered, presumably it would be because the club, having seen plenty of him in training and in pre-season, think the pure profit would be worthwhile taking and believe there are other more talented options on the market they could replace him with (having surely looked around in that department if reports are to be believed)

He's not gonna gain much value if he isn't playing at all here and with our current squad he's unlikely to get a huge amount of game time at this point outside of the cups, unless our strikers are flopping and or someone gets injured. I think there's something there worth exploring but he has to really take his chance when given it when he next gets it, as so far he hasn't really done that in a convincing enough way to justify a start just yet.

Rooting for him to turn that round, perhaps he'll get some minutes today but with Man Utd a week away it's likely well still want to give most minutes to our starters.

Oh I agree they should have been laughed out of the room and maybe it was just agent talk to boost the price, but I do dimly remember silly money being talked about.

I'm not so sure about Bournemouth long term. A lot of their good young signings have got the difficult second season ahead of them where quick study Premier League players have now seen them once or twice and will have a plan for them. Plus they've just lost their main striker and remember what that did to us for a bit. Could be sticky for them?

I think we're reasonably in that slight gambler position with our transfers, taking calculated risks to try to get to the next level and looking for players who may have lost their way a bit (very reminiscent of Roy's time) but if we can get them going will also represent transfer value later if we decide to cash in.

I remember Ajax, Everton and Leicester fans online offering to drive Bassey, Iwobi and Castagne to us, but now I think all three could cost at least double what we paid if anyone came calling.

Gone are the days when we splurged on Seri, Anguissa, Cavaleiro and Knockaert - to name but a few - without any thought for the future or any resale value. ESR will be worth a fortune in a couple of years if it works out here and if Sess rediscovers his mojo with us, it's not too outrageous to imagine we could be selling him for £25m again in a couple of years.

I get that you're nervous about our approach to transfers now by not getting players in early, but I like the fact that we no longer have our pants pulled down on transfers and are prepared to negotiate hard and not be taken for a ride anymore.

Numerous reports out there of people discussing Arsenal wanting the 40-50m range. Including Simon Jordan saying "But I've been told the price tag that Arsenal expect to recoup for Eddie Nketiah is £50m, so I wonder if that might put off some potential suitors"

And indeed people were scoffing at it, yes but regardless...wether it's deemed reasonable or not, that's what they were seemingly asking for early in the window, which was the point OP was making.

In additional related news...

Loosely linked to Fulham- Wesley from corinthians, originally quoted €30m early in the window, they apparently lowered their demands to €25m....and having had no takers are apparently willing to take €20m now.  https://www.uol.com.br/esporte/futebol/ultimas-noticias/2024/08/09/corinthians-dobrou-a-aposta-por-wesley-e-agora-recebe-propostas-menores.htm?utm_source=twitter-network&utm_medium=compartilhar_conteudo&utm_campaign=organica&utm_content=geral&cmpid=copiaecola

As we know, this is the nature of the window a lot of the time. Sometimes you take the risk and it pays off massively, sometimes perhaps it might not. But we know the drill, that's the game of balancing risk vs reward required in markets.

Marcel_Gecov

Regarding Bournemouth, now theyve lost Solanke I can see them being in some trouble. Yes, theyve spent some money and have a decent young squad, however, they will be in a similar situation to us last year when we lost Mitrovic and I wouldnt be surprised if they end up with Enes Unal as their starting striker (who scored 2 in 16).

Juventus are also sniffing around Senesi who is apparently expected to leave. Thats a huge blow for them. I would put a large bet on us finishing above them.

itombomb

I don't think Bournemouth will really be in the 'cash to spend' club - given their net spend over the last couple of years is absolutely massive. I imagine the Solanke sale gets them close to breaking even after they picked up their obligations on Unal and Sinesterra. They'll also use whatever headroom they have to bring in another striker.

In terms of other clubs who have done well selling players, there must be something really dodgy about Forest's transfers. Obviously they did the nonsense PSR swap deal with Newcastle over Anderson and Vlachodimos. But Lyon also seem to have spent about £30m each on Niakhate and Mangala (inc a previous loan fee), for players who Forest bought for about £10m each a couple of years ago, and who shouldn't really have grown in value.

Quote from: SerbianLad on August 09, 2024, 05:51:19 PM50 million should be an absolute minimum for AP imo, considering his age, profile, him being a Brazilian international, etc. Even then, I'd still probably keep him. We already sold Mitro and Palhinha for very high fees, surely we don't really need money now?
Just coming back to this - there is no way I'd pay £50m for AP, and think he is work about half that. But when you look at some of the other sales this Summer, you're probably right.

Diaby to Saudi for £50m; Kilman and Fulkrug to West Ham for £45 and £25 respectively; Gallagher, Dewsbury-Hall and Niakhate for £30m.

Ive read some mind boggling things about our own players on here but this really takes the gold medal.

"Crazy fee for Solank", who scored 19 goals for Bournemouth, yet Pereira for 50 seems reasonable to people because he press well. Well, so does Solanke, he presses really well actually - and score goals.

Anguissa had resale value, evidently, considering how good he turned out for Napoli. It was just put mess of transfer strategy that signed him without knowing why.

And to think that anyone would pay 40 mil for Iwobi, 28, is just laughable.

We constantly moan about other clubs demanding high fees (McTominay for 25? No way!!) and yet we also absolutely claim that our own players should be over valued (Stansfield to be a 20 m player and so on)

I get that we are supporters and love our club and players but lads, c'mom, some of ya, get your heads out of your a*ses

From this looks like Jay is playing in a BCD game:

https://x.com/FulhamTransfer/status/1822204777561735438

May not play tonight then but may be why. Perhaps he played in some in Portugal that we are not aware of? Who knows but perhaps interesting if he has played in this.

Nice, as usual.

If you think £65m for an average Premier League striker who's already failed at a higher level is reasonable, that selling Anguissa at a loss is OK and someone when desperate like Forest wouldn't pay £30m for Iwobi (basic fee was £15m) when they paid £40m for Gibbs-White, then fine. You do you.
