Quote from: Deeping_white on August 10, 2024, 03:55:46 PMI mean it bumps our transfer kitty by £4m but surely we should be bringing him back at that price and essentially getting him at £16m when you negate the sell on fee

The sell on was likely on profit and I think he was sold for 7m so it likely is 2.6m to us.

Pretty rubbish game so far, be interesting to see how he does, not that it concerns us now though!

Dragon

£27.5m for a bloke who has played 596 minutes of premier league football. In the 17 appearances he was subbed on 10 times.

Didn't impress either klopp or slot, and played 9 times for leibzig.

Hugh Janus

This is Brentford with one eye on 25/26 season. Fabio has always scored goals for fun in the Championship.

Hopefully he'll have a relagaionn realease clasue in his contract

On the plus side, that £3m we're getting means we sign Andre and that's one more piece of the jigsaw puzzle in place. Based on the lineup for today's game I think it's a DM, #8 and winger alongside a centre back that we'll be targetting

Quote from: Lighthouse on August 10, 2024, 01:49:14 PMChelsea are said to have spent two hundred and forty three million. Now this is clearly madness. What chance has clubs outside of the top 5 or 6 with that sort of spending. Yet clubs will be done for breaking FFP rules. Makes the whole thing just a fiasco.
Either they are breaking the FFP rules or the rules aren't designed well. It just isn't fair...

I mean if they're not technically breaching FFP rules, then it is fair, we're either just not doing the same thing, or don't know how to?

Chelsea sold hotels to afford extra stuff? Football club's are becoming big and multifaceted businesses now, more than just football venues - look at our new riverside stand, restaurants, bars, hotels, gym.

Think Real's new stadium is similar - I'm sure quite a few stadiums are now purchasing extra land to develop the land along side the football, but for mixed use - making modern stadiums community/social hubs to increase revenues.

They have sold a bunch of players for profit this summer, so I don't think the spending is that notable this window.

Their issue is they are not spending on top talent. It's mostly like for like. I don't see them improving their results with the players they are bringing in.
They spent almost 200 million more than they earned in the previous season, and this season they spent around 30 million more than they earned. And apparently they are close to completing a signing of Pedro Neto from Wolves for more than 50 million.

The Gallagher sale alone would offset 100 to 150 million in spending for P/L purposes. It's why they are so determined to move Chalobah. His sale would free up another 80 to 100 million plus as well.

Other than the 1st year the finances on what they're doing makes sense. I just think the player acquisition part is not very impressive other than Palmer.

I wonder if we get 20% of the £7.5m in add ons they might get. They also have a sell on fee, I wonder if we get any of that as well

Or Carlos. An extra 2 million in unexpected profit could help the club move his fee up to a level Aston Villa could accept.

Hope they stop sitting on their hands in Rio 🤞

We will get 20% of the add ons. I don't believe we get any of their sell on.

To be honest if it wasn't for his Fulham connections would anyone think we should have gone for him. Be honest now, without your Fulham sentiments.

The reason we think it is because we know what he's capable of to be fair. Thats why he's on our radar more than teams that haven't watched a lot of him.

Add to that what he did at Hull and I think its pretty understandable why it would be of interest to many.
He's not really needed at this point for us though. Other priorities for sure

So conclusions after pre-season remain more or less the same pretty much all on the same page regarding.

We look good on paper already as a starting 11 capable of beating good teams.
But we can still improve at RCB and CM/DM specifically and likely will by the end of the window by all reports.

Would like another striking option if, as seems likely, Stansfield gets moved on given he's barely going to get minutes here at this point. I really like the look of Semih, I think his tenacity and strength for such a young lad is very much what we could do with as another option.

All in all we have a team absolutely capable of picking up points from the jump. Wether they do or not we'll see and a tough game away at Utd to start things off in all honesty. From there we're 2 possibly 3 signings away from a seriously top-quality-looking starting 11 and any extra squad depth from there would be a bonus.

Here's hoping for an exciting last 3 weeks of the window. Hope we end up with a squad with huge potential for the next couple of years.

If come the end of the window our first team sheet once settled in looks like

                         Leno
Castagne.  Carlos   Bassey   Robinson
       Mactominay       Andre
Traore                ESR                Iwobi
                         Muniz

I really think we'd be a huge threat. Even if you swap Mactominay for Andreas or Lukic/another. There's a lot of quality there to really cause teams problems.

Bring it on.

Manu selling the Average White Band and Carvalho having no ambition, someone will need to 'Pick up the pieces'!
