Seems like we're only going to sign one winger amd that's it for this window, unless someone leaves.

Pick you favourite from the current rumours:

Wesley
Cherki
Tsygankov

Who do we all fancy most out of that lot?

Tough one, it seems Tsygankov is the most accomplished of the lot. Like the idea of Wesleys rawness and pace. Cherki has all the skill in his locker to excite (And perhaps frustrate) the cottage croud. Finding it hard to pick . Think I'd be happy with any of them tbh, although Cherki at the rumoured agreed price seems great bang for buck, and perhaps leaves room for more additions in Jan or next year should we need them.
Wesley has been linked with a move to Saudi i believe as well
Marcus Edwards
That a wish or someone we're in talks with? He's gotta cost a fortune surely?

Edwards is available for like 12-15m allegedly so he would be reasonably priced. He is a left footed RW though and we really need a LW unless Adama moves to the left

Where did ya spot that out of interest? Im reading a £15m bid was rejected from Palace and they want 25m-30m euros?

Seems unlikely if they've already been reported as having a 15m euro bid rejected.

Took a look on their board and mixed reviews, some saying he's a bit inconsistent and sometimes a bit too much showboating, apparently widely accepted that he had a poor end to the season which is why he's perhaps available for less...most seem to accept that he's talented and capable of more but a bit selfish sometimes to the teams detriment. Some lamenting selling him this low when he's more than capable of having a better season and being worth double....make of that what ya will 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️

I mean we've got €20m based on the Cherki bid so I guess it depends what Marco wants. It sounds like we only want one more forward based on an embargoed part of his press conference so we've got good budget to get that one player in. That being said I can see a sneaky loan if the right player comes up, TK  can never resist can he! So if we do have €20m and Edwards costs about that then not too shabby, not sure if it means we'd move an existing forward over to LW or not though to facilitate him being here, because at that sort of money you'd expect he'd be the starting option at RW

Quote from: ffcthereligion on August 23, 2024, 10:44:03 PMExactly same thought for me recently. And this is a concern.

A good mate of mine who is the biggest football snob I know (big 6 armchair fan naturally) recently referred to marco as being 'a serious manager... if you lose him not great for you'

It is a concern, you are right, mate.

I think that we are ok for this season but have a good one and go top ten (I don't believe we will get even close to Europe, personally) then I think we could see clubs other than Saudi ones begin to sit up and take notice.

Thanks for posting the interview segment, Jay. I found it a good read.

Christ only knows how that's banging a drum so don't let it put you off future such posts.

On another note, fun fact ...

Edwards holds the record for the most goals scored by an Englishman in the Primeira Liga.

Hope that's OK to post here or should I have DM'd it? 🤷🏻♂️

Sorry my point saying "seems unlikely" wasn't that we wouldn't sign him or be able to at a higher price. I meant it seems unlikely that that report from the Alasdair is correct about them being willing to accept 15m euros because Palace have already bid that and it was allegedly rejected already.

I agree I suspect looking at all the 5 years deals etc that our books are looking super healthy right now for this year. So I agree that I think we've likely plenty in the tank to invest in a decent attacker. Cant know for sure of course as I don't have the inside info - but would assume so. Will be exciting to see what options are on the table next week and what we pull the trigger on (or indeed if Cherki has a change of heart and/or the likes of a lazio/psg/dortming level club don't pick him)

All good man! My Dm's are certainly open to ya haha if ya haven't watched the whole thing it's a really feel good watch and I just love having Marco as the manager here. He speaks so well and can imagine teams wanting to rally around him.

As for "DM's" - Interesting stat on Edwards Im all ears, seems a talented prospect who's had a tail off in form - queue Fulham on the scene in a classic fulhamish looking deal? Ha

£25m up to £30m in addons! Shakes fist at Scott from a league above. Good luck to him hopefully he's terrible against us 😅

Totally disagree if we are talking about Berge being better in defensive midfield position than Andre! Would go as far to say Andre is much technically superior.

Then why is no other club in Europe trying to beat us to this bargain?

It really cracks me up how our fans think that other clubs will only notice our success when other supporters start talking about it on Twitter! Come on, Anyone involved professionally in football at high-level knows exactly how good silva is

Quote from: FFC1987 on August 23, 2024, 10:24:03 PMJust in case it is, I don't think these comments are comparable to other windows if the general gist is 'its always better to wait' though. Silva has been the complete opposite to what he says here previously about timing, frustrations and lack of activity earlier despite the fact he still managed to start off other seasons well.

Its lovely that we're now in a position where, we can lose a few core players and have a squad competitive and ready for the season and can afford to play 2-3 league games and a cup match not at full strength, but other squads in other windows weren't in this position.

Being an established premier league side, compared to say, a newly promoted one, the squad difference is staggering. Very different scenarios where I still argue, some urgency is more key.

He certainly seems more chilled about it all and understanding - perhaps more trusting of the process? or more at ease with what we have already and so more pragmatic about it all?  A mixture of those things and more? who knows really. Either way glad he seems at ease with it all. Reassuring that he clearly trusts he's being backed and seemingly has a good relationship these days with the board.

Good stuff all in all

Yep, absolutely. I do think his complete lack of frustration is probably in the quality of depth this squad currently possesses and I guess you could argue, starting fixtures of United away, Leicester Home and Ipswich away, with a championship side cup tie help it as well.

Just a much nicer, and more positive feeling all around, including on the message board which is great.
positive posts are on the up on this media which is great as more and more people knowing the club is in good hands top to bottom.

Exactley this. Most supporters watch their own team, a lot of other supporters who watch other matches as well do tend to favor big teams/CL games.

People generally speaking dont watch smaller teams like us so they dont have a clue about us until it becomes generally obvious.

With that said, the day Marco leaves, it will be a real test for the club to show that Marcos influence isnt the sole thing driving this club forward, and that the recruitment of him wasnt just dumb luck, but that we do have the knowledge and competence to repeat a successful recruitment of his replacement and keep going forward.

Not sure if you got this from my comment but if you did...I don't think that at all and I'd hazard a guess our fans don't generally think that either, just made a general comment about the price of success for smaller clubs. Albeit I will say perhaps it's a reasonable indicator of just how a good a job a smaller clubs manager is doing when even the more "normie" fans are noticing the job your manager is doing without being that person necessarily being a media darling yet.

Solomon to the champ...another failed move to spurs from Fulham that didn't work out
tbf injuries screwed him really but what a fall from champs league goals v real madrid

Solomon did suffer from injuries however he is badly advised. I think he has delusions of grandeur and Marco
Thought he was a one trick pony
That was a luxury we didn't need.

WOW. I can't see how a prem club didn't snap this up.....Even if you think he's limited etc in his play, deploying his pace late on in games held such value for us when he did play, much like Traore does. I didn't see a championship skint for him....what a fall from grace.

Willham

I only read recently that no agreement had been reached between shakhtar and Tottenham yet, strange situation 🤨

I imagine they've seen two serious knee injuries in two seasons and decided to steer clear, which is understandable given he can't be on small wages at this point
