I actually wouldn't be surprised if we're looking for a GK. Not at all convinced Benda is up to it if something happens to Bernd.

Think this is why we shouldn't have taken his 3 players comment as gospel because it looks like there's budget and scope for more! Could be an interesting 6 days, clearly we have a free run at Andre too given he's not close to anything else and we've agreed terms with him months ago (allegedly...)

So...we shouldn't believe what he said before, but believe what he said now? Feels like people have become obsessed with the Andre saga now to be honest. Some real mental gymnastics.

I think you might be right. We look short of numbers for a GK anyway, so I think it's quite likely. I wa thinking it could be left back he was thinking of, but as well as Sess as back up, both Castaigne and Calvin can do a job there, so i think that's unlikely...unless Jedi is off in the next few days

I'm worried about our striker options

100% agree...we need a consistent goalscorer up top.

Don't think Marco said we will only sign 3 ,more along the lines of we definitely need 3

BACK LINE?

I Thought that our defence was closed. we have 2 full backs and 4 CB. Ryan is cover for Robinson

These two quotes are contradictory. I'm fairly certain that the second one is a misquote, as Marco confirmed yestersay we're only signing one more player, unless someone leaves.

So...we shouldn't believe what he said before, but believe what he said now? Feels like people have become obsessed with the Andre saga now to be honest. Some real mental gymnastics.

If sky are quoting him as saying we need someone for the front line and back line and our defence is covered.. then a GK or DM would seem to be the areas to go for.

A gk at this point would seem slightly pointless. Our starting option in Leno is top quality and you don't use your backup gk as often.

The outfield options are clearly the most important area for us, we've got berge in who you'd like to think would help us..

The only area in defence we may want to improve is LB, because Sessegnon has been injured and not played much, but it'd be pointless to upgrade there when we've got Robinson, just signed Sessegnon and also have Cuenca who can play there.

So where does he mean by saying back line?

Our biggest problem areas at the moment are definitely up front, having a more clinical striker, a need for a different type of player on the wings.. especially LW.

We've got more than enough CMs.. lukic, berge, Reed and then you can also play cairney in there too.

The only place we may be missing out on is a DM in the centre of the park for me.. would you call a winger, or typical central midfielder as part of the defensive line?

No, it'd be a stretch.. so what does he mean?

It'd be strange to spend money on defence when we have no need to there.. especially when there are clearly more important areas up front.

So maybe he does want a 'defensive' midfielder.

It's not mental gymnastics, though I would be surprised at this point if we did sign andré.. it seems to me to simply be a logical place Marco wants a player in for..?

So.. if he says he wants a defensive line player.. does he mean DM? If so.. obviously the budget matters.. André is the only player we've been linked with beyond berge who is an out and out defensive midfielder.. Mctominay could be an option too.

Based on rumours andré is the most obvious. It seems like he's expecting to go, the club haven't received any offers since we put one in, and he apparently wants to play for us.

Mctominay seems to be more expensive and he seems to be of interest to Napoli, plus rumours were going around suggesting he doesn't want to come to Fulham.

Now, if we look at berge, who has admittedly played DM, the interview with the official suggested he was replacing palhinha.. then it is a strange comment from Marco..

Perhaps he thinks we should have two Dms come in?

Or maybe he thinks a CM with a bit of defensive bite and a bit of creativity and the ability to score goals, like berge, is an upgrade on the current options - lukic, Reed, cairney, Pereira..  and actually he could play alongside André or a DM?

Of course this is all speculation, but what would you suggest he means by needing an extra player for the defensive line?

For what its worth, at this point I don't think we'll sign andré, though I'd love to see him with us.. it seems that ship has sailed.

But if he's quoted as saying we need something more for our defensive line it does beg the question, what does he mean?

I mean Marco literaly said this yesterday:

Seems like we're only going to sign one winger amd that's it for this window, unless someone leaves.
We're not getting anyone but a winger unless someone leaves.

As mentioned previously, but with the link for the quote POST Leicester match TODAY. Maybe something has changed and he's got new information from the board since yesterday? Or he's forgotten himself and said something wrong and made a mental slip..

Someone once asked me, "Why Fulham?".

With due respect General, you discount the obvious answer again. I guess the question as to why would be, because one still feels we need a DM or a 6. The Gk is the obvious answer here for me anyway. If we look at the squad, where Sikva has always wanted two competitive players for every position, the GK seems the most flawed for me anyway. If we were to bring in Andre despite Marco saying Berge is the 6, and quoting that both Reed and Lukic can play there, we would have way too many players for those single positions. It just doesn't make sense. I'm really sorry to burst the bubble as I also wanted Andre as well as Berge, but at this stage, I'd put money down that it's not happening. Hell, the president of the club he plays for has said we are no longer interested...yet here we are still clutching at pearls. So yeh, for me, it's mental gymnastics still. I agree with so much of what you said...bar the fact people keep going back to that DM position and Andre....put it to bed and don't don't get your hopes up....

Shouldn't it be "last pieces" then and not "last piece"? The quote @IloveFFC posted states clearly that we are complete in the back line. The exact phrase back line is used and in one quote Marco says we are done there. Then you look at what Marco said yesterday at press conference... That Sky quote makes no sense whatsoever and is surely a misquote.

Gotta be honest I suspect he just mispoke

As he doesnt say peices he said the last peice... and unless he wants an additional LB in case sess doesnt work out I don't see why wed need anything else and multiple previous interviews including yesterday seemed to indicate its a forward line player and that's it.

Would be highly suprised to see another player on top of that

So GK it is then. I think we can all agree we don't need a starter for that position though. And we're covered at RB, LB and in both CB positions. Just seems odd for him to be quoted as saying something different and after a match noting it's important to bring in a defensive line player, not sure it's something you'd say if you were just aiming to bring in a back up gk who wont have a meaningful contribution to our starting 11.

But you're right, I don't see us signing Andre and perhaps then it is simply a misquote. We'll just have to wait and see if it is or isn't.

Perhaps.. he doesn't speak perfect english though.. he could mean last piece in one position and last piece in another and see them separately.. I'd say last pieces. Basically it's a strange comment to see quoted after the game. I have no idea.

Are we really arguing about what a man who's second language it is might or might not have said or meant?

I just looked at IloveFFC's historical posts and the one he quotes this says the exact same quote as I shared with the needing a last piece for the wings and back line.. Perhaps you can find it for me so I can see?

The sky sports site is where the quote originally comes from. Tis odd.

Really?

Don't worry - it's not arguing (not to me anyway), it's trying to discern what Marco said, and what it means to the clubs end of the transfer window and it seems hazy based on what marco had previously said, what others believe is the case vs what was quoted on SSN post match which suggested something different.

Given he's the manager, who runs the team we support, think it seems important to understand, or at least try to understand what he's saying.. no?
