How can they afford that in League 1?

Rich new owners banking on buying promotion

Probably can't, but they're banking on promotion I assume. Already spent £12 million net this window.

Peter o'rourke using the stansfield rumours for some clickbait

Wouldn't surprise me if there;s an element of truth to it though - like I say getting £9-10m for Jay means you can buy a PL ready striker due to FFP; DCL's contract expires next summer so it gives us money for someone like him (or another striker valued around the £20-25m mark) who is PL ready now and we also get our winger too.

Is it Brady bankrolling a lot of it?

If we were to sell I'd hope we'd be smart enough to insert a sell on fee.

That doesn't factor in the wages, he'd be expecting a big pay bump and that would price him out of our budget.

Would be quite a drop to go from playing for England to playing in front of a 1000 spectators. Maybe their betting laws are a bit more lax over there.

Tammy Abrahams coming in ?
Remember you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.

Quote from: karldutton on August 30, 2024, 04:06:01 AMZegrova would be a fantastic addition to the squad, looks a real menace.
The way he runs past the defence is unbelievable and he can also score some fantastic goals.

Lille have told Fulham that he is not for sale, scrub that one off the list, so back to the drawing board.

I don't understand, all that was banging on here last season, get Jay back, get him in the team, now he is back people want to get rid of him.

The Toney thing is mad. But generational money for a player who hasn't really made it in his career so far is a big lure. That's him done as being (for example) England's 9 at the next WC.

Re: Stansfield - I think we take the money. A homegrown player is a great thing, but he'll be a hero there and seems to enjoy the adulation. If we can get 25% of his onward value (e.g. let's assume he scores 25 in L1 and gets them promoted, a Champ club may well pay more next year), it's a good deal for us, and for him, in lots of ways.

Re: the Lille guy. Looks very handy in a position we could definitely strengthen. His corners look great too. If we can make it work somehow, that'd be terrific. Lille is only 2hrs on the train - hopefully someone's bought him a ticket! Loan to buy? The French league needs the money, but obvs they just qualified for the CL, so it'll be a tough sell.

With us wanting an forward/wide should we not be exploring the possibility of Sterling? If he is in the Chelsea bomb squad then surely there is a case for saying to Chelsea if no one has come in for him today then we pay an agreed amount
to take him on loan for the season or until January what suits both parties? I can only hope the lad wants to play first team football and not just turn up to training everyday with no chance of being involved? For any team his wages are huge but even if Chelsea pay 3/4 it would surely be in there interest not just the hit on wages but gets him out of the picture as well for them?

The 'pure profit' line has clearly stuck in a load of people's heads.

Romance of football seems truly dead and buried.

There are many who posts on here, and not all think alike. Maybe it is not the same posters that wanted to get him in the team that now wants to get rid?

I like jay Stansfield but I think hes a mile off premier league standard at this point in his career.

Ward-Prowse apparently going to Forest on loan for the season with no option to buy?

As long as he isnt coming to us all is good in the world lol

SerbianLad

Re Ward-Prowse or any other potential midfielder: Marco clearly stated that it's going to be only one more player in unless we sell someone(in that case he said it would be a one in one out situation, on top of that winger of course). On top of that, midfield is where we have most depth probably, as we have at least three players that can play in each position, and in the 8 role where Ward-Prowse would probably fit in best, we have 6 players, potentialy 7 if you count Iwobi (or even 8 if Pajaziti stays). My guess is that either the rumour isn't true, or we are negotiating in advance, in case an offer we can't refuse comes in for one of our wingers.

Re the new striker rumour: it only makes sense if Stansfield is indeed going.

Re Stansfield to Birmingham: if they up their offer to 15 + 5 in addons and a sell-on fee I'd take it.

Quote from: Deeping_white on August 30, 2024, 09:34:15 AMThat's not how FFP works - he's an academy player so if you get £9m for him it means it's all profit and you can spend circa £25m on a new player, so it means two PL ready forwards in today

Ah, You mean books wise this year, sure, but we still have to pay more then we brought in in the end, just over multiple seasons which can still affect spending capacity as a whole, all adds up.. Anyway we probably have the budget if we wanted to anyway but Id be surprised and don't think that figure is high as it could be personally

Agreed.

With that said, I don't see Stansfield reaching the level we need him to (just my opinion) so if we could sell him and bring in a loanee to cover that place in the squad, I'd be all for that.

That is, in addition to another forward on a permanent move.

Although ultimately I can see us ending today with the combination of keeping Stansfield and just making one more underwhelming, last-minute loan signing. I find it hard to believe we've got anything tasty in the pipeline without the press having got hold of it by now.

Yeh I assume it'd be 1 winger 1 striker.

Whilst I do think it's way too early to write him off as not being able to contribute significantly enough at this level, and think he's earnt his shot to make his case as we can't know for sure until he gets a run of games at this level... Silva clearly thinks he has the quality from what he's said - I do still accept that naturally I also have my reservations too purely because he's yet to prove it in the prem...Only one way to do that though and I do believe he's earned the right to get minutes ,and then it would be over to him to take that chance. So it's weighing up the risk to reward here it seems.

I wouldn't be too mad at the club about it IF they brought in a quality replacement who could contribute now at least for a season and we got a decent price for him. I would however think it a shame and do like to see our youth coming through and contributing.

As ever deadline day hotting up with all sorts of mad deals flying about. Let's see where we land.

Regarding "tasty" options we've been linked to the Lyon winger and They've just signed Zaha last minute so perhaps that's a go-er.
As for up top I'm sure we're have known there was interest in Stansfield and this was a possibility so I'd imagine they'd have a list of options they could make contact with should this materialise, deals can often spring up last minute and go through with very little notice (just look at how quickly Mitro was done in a few hours from contact to signing for example)

Either way we'll know by tomorrow! Nothing like a good ol deal sheet to get the heart racing 😅
