Looks like its a lot to do with style of play. He does a lot of dynamic sprinting, pressing and box to box countering.

The best players from teams that didn't quite get promoted seems like a good bet for us. As would a couple of younger players from the Champ or lower down.

But France, France is where there are rich pickings to be had. Their TV deal is a mess and lots of french clubs will be willing to offload.

I agree in principle it's hard for little old fulham to buy better quality players but Brentford and palace and the 3 coming up have and will and I did not know that iwobi was our chief scout he was a bit unlucky with neilson his leg fell off he was valued at 30mil considering he's been injured for 5years a bargain.

Sorry, I don't think it matters these days and is as much of a thing.

We bought Palhinha, arguably one of the best DMs in Europe at the time and when he played for us.

The talent is simply out there and recruitment is the only differentiator.

We bought in ESR who everyone thought was a coup at the time.

We had Berbatov who was sought after.


In my opinion signings will come to clubs for a number of reasons..

The manager - reputation and style
The team- playing with a certain calibre of players, having a position they can make their own.

The club - ambition levels/direction of travel in terms of performances and posituons in the league (I.e. we were close to competing for Europe- if I'm a striker and think I can tip the scales and help the club into Europe, or to win a cup semi final then that's attractive)

Location- simply put that helps. Being in London is a big bonus for us.


We see Huijsen who's just left Bournemouth for Real Madrid, Lacroix who went to Palace, Eze who left our academy to become the player he is now..

All plucked out of relative nowhere to make their mark on the league.

There are more than enough top quality players who are out there and who can improve us as a team without only going for the creme de la creme that all the big clubs want.

Hujisen wasn't plucked out of nowhere, he was playing regularly for Roma and Mourinho had said he was a special talent. I remember there was already hype around him when Bournemouth got him and they paid 20m for him
Everyone talking about how great Palaces recruitment is but we finished a point above them

I do agree with you that we can attract some of the top talent around Europe and shouldn't settle for mediocre players. Palhinha a good example of that

I'd be thrilled with Hamer. Not really sure how a guy who likes to dribble forwards, pass forwards, box to box and the big one, loves to shoot can be considered something underwhelming but each to their own. He's bulked up the last couple of years as well so I think he could be an astute signing.

Agree, I am a big fan of Hamer and think he would be a great pick up. Has had 4 good seasons in a row now and I know we have had previous interest. 25m is a bit steep for him though. If we could pick him up for 10/15m would be good business and he would be a good edition to our midfield.

To be honest, whoever we are linked with some of our fans will complain

I remember last summer when we had a bid accepted for Cherki and some fans weren't happy - he is now on verge of joining Man City for 30m

People were complaining when we were linked with Moise Kean who has just scored 25 goals in Italy this season and it seems Fiorentina (Who bought him for 13m) will sell for 40m a year later

All incredibly valid points. Half a meltdown when we were linked with McT as well not to mention all the Man U fans wanting rid. Player of the season at the title winners.

  

Big complaints re Berge from tonnes and for much of the season he's been superb.

Half the time it's as much how the manager uses them and the confidence he installs in them as most of these players do have raw talent or they wouldn't be going for what they go for. Aside from needing to get some younger players in for future planning whoever we get trust Marco to make it work.

Hamer good player would be a good signing for us has looked good on LM for Sheffield Utd but can play central like Iwobi

Hamer will be 28 next month. He's the sort of player who will cost a significant amount with very little resale value and has only ever played one season of top flight football. Whilst I agree he's a decent player and I'm not against signing 28 year olds I feel that the club should spend their money more wisely.

Agreed, plus another player we aren't really scouting, just picking from a known, established group like someone doing the Fantasy Football. So we'll end up paying a premium.

I wonder if anyone else has sensed a change with us being linked with players by the big names on X since Marco shot down the rumours about KWP and Ben Johnson. They seem unusually quiet and all the rumours seem to be coming from lesser known sources.

Always interesting to take a look at the teams that are relegated and who would be "available"

Ipswich:
Philogene and Hutchinson for the wings
Leif Davis LB cover

Leicester:
Ndidi (28 now, but dependent on cost maybe)
Okoli - CB that has potential
Soumare - Attributes that I think Silva could mould
El Khannouss - Interesting player but would cost a lot and still a risk
Mavididi - Think he offers something Silva would like with direct play

Southampton:
Onuachu - Something different to lead the line, and had some good games in a poor side.
Mateus Fernandes - Star of the show, worth it.
Ronnie Edwards - out on loan last year, but probably will play first team football for Saints next year
Dibling - will be on the radar of everyone


But other than those above, it's still quite slim pickings out of the teams that have gone down - Probably the first time in a few years, where there's not much that would improve us bar a few names.

Certainly be an interesting season, and going to have to cast the net further afield.

To me i dont think our scouting network is as good as Brighton in particular but also Brentford and Bournemouth seem to find these gems out of nowhere.Where we settled for older premier league players.Also hoping Smith Rowe comes good very disappointing last season.Think there is a player there seems to lack confidence.

Yeah we work much more locally, with preferred agents and Manager preference - I believe there's some data analysis, but we don't lead with that like other clubs do.

It means the Manager is happy, and has more control and owns part of the project - which is like the old school method.
