Make you right Mike. We've been down this road before. Manager wants investment in squad Board want commitment from manager. Club have a flush where Silva only 2 pair currently? Fancy Marco might bluff this one?

I don't think this is correct at all. We're building and continue to build a squad that is fit to challenge in the top half- players, manager, coaches, back room staff will all come and go, but it doesn't distract from the fact that we need an improving squad each year to be there. No one at the club is that stupid.

Could this one be getting closer.

By a millimetre a day...? Just in time to sign on deadline day?

They signed two strikers the other day and I thought this is it! How foolish I am

 :slap:

Seriously though sure with those signings he has to be off somewhere soon. Rumours are us and Leipzig I believe so let's just frigging pray it's us as really want him now.

Is he actually any good? I have doubts about signing strikers from lesser leagues, especially if they're not at the very top teams in those leagues.

Ligue 1, Bundesliga, Serie A, and La Liga - fine - they're generally strong leagues with established clubs and some depth to them, which requires quality and gems can be found.

But raiding the turkish league who came 8th (one place behind the team we sold Aboubakar Kamara to) isn't exactly an exciting signing on the face of it.

I think that argument would hold weight if we had a conventional DoF structure but that's a can of worms that everyone is tired of

Good thing we already have some decent strikers if he doesn't instantly deliver.

There are plenty of good players outside the top leagues. If we are only going to buy players that are 'proven quality' we are never going to be able to progress anywhere. We got Hangeland in from Denmark and Dempsey from the MLS and they were probably our best signings during our last long stint in the PL. Romulo seems pretty interesting, but there are no guarantees in football. If he was playing for a team in any of the leagues you mentioned and putting in similar performances he'd likely cost at least twice as much.

Thing is if we are ever going to buy young talent low and sell high we have to spot talent from lesser leagues. If they are young doing well in one of the big leagues they'll be £40m to £60m or more. With two top starters already on the team this is the chance to take a gamble for me rather than going for someone like DCL on huge wages with no resale value. This guy would be low wages without massive risk at around £20m and huge potential upside if he has been scouted well.

Clip reels are often very deceiving but he certainly looks very good from them. Scored some absolute screamers from miles out and some incredibly silky skills to round 3 or 4 for tap ins. Looks quick and very elegant on the ball and a good passer. 6ft 4 as well and looks like he can hold the ball up well so fits our system. His scoring record is very good and assists record is excellent. The fact that he has done that for a pretty weak team in the league is prob better for me as he prob gets less service. Scored a hat trick I believe as well against one of their teams who plays champions league. Their fans seem to think he's brilliant from the comments I've read.

End of the day no way we can really tell from some very limited info, clip reels and barely even any stats from that league. That's where our scouts need to earn their money and pick up a relatively unknown gem and clue that he is good enough for the prem. From the small bits I've seen certainly does look like he has something about him and potentially an exciting prospect and our scouts must think the same as very reputable sources say we have bid. Be interesting to see how he goes if we do get him.

Birmingham has signed both Demarai Gray and Osayi Samuel, two players we have been constantly linked with the last couple of years.

Personally think Championship is there level. Gray is very inconsistent though. Will look a million for a couple of games and then half a crown for the next six.

Yeah he's rubbish but Ornstein reported that we put in a 16m euros + add ons bid last week and he is usually very reliable

An extreme example of an upside of taking a chance is Napoli signing Kvaratskhelia from the Georgian league.

It is understandably to be cautious about how a player will adapt or how good they are when looking at a weaker league; but it's also myopic to judge a player on the merits of their team and league.

Thing is as fans we often need to accept our limits; most of the time we judge based on highlights reels and pretty much every player can look good on one of these, including Yohan Mollo. It's the way a player influences or doesn't across 90 minutes that are the most meaningful. Schürrle scored some of the most impressive goals I've seen for us, but we all know how negative his effect on the team was. So it's a bit of a wait and see.

Often when we are looking at bringing in players there's a grass is always greener feeling, if we were looking at highlights of our current players I'm sure we'd be very excited about it; but feel more ambivalent about them while they're on our books.

just out of interest why do you think he's so bad, I have gone back and scrolled through his timeline and he has post quite a few links that have actually happened like Samuel's to Birmingham on the 28th June who signed today as an example.

In my experience with this guy, he seems to be the most extreme example of posting as much as possible to generate traffic. There will be some rumours where he's basically sharing information that has already come from other journalists which happens to be right; but if there's any rumour that he's first to share it seems totally random and always wrong.

Looks like he just posts on fan sites and poor quality pages like caughtoffside. Seems to be someone just wanting attention on the internet rather than a real journalist.

Nero

Doesnt look like anyone will be signing Thomas Party this window, finally been charge with rape

If you throw enough sh*t at the wall eventually some of it is bound to stick.

I also read some semi-expose a while back which basically labelled him and other "journos" which churn out transfer stories as being full of BS. Nicolo Schira was another one (often cited on here).

Putting aside how good or not we think those players are, Brum go out and get deals done, whereas we dither and often get gazumped.

7 weeks until the first game... what's the betting it'll be no signings before then.

Be nice for Marco to have the players he wants in for some pre season gelling.

Fulham will add in the next couple of weeks.
