Talk about uninspiring signings....doesnt tick any boxes for me I'm afraid. Trust the club and all that but the wages would be silly and his legs aren't where they once were....happy to be wrong though.

Sterling would be a classic Marco signing though wouldn't he?

It sounds utterly uninspired though I have to say.

Mind you I think most of us felt that when hearing about Willian first time and that was a decent signing all things considered.

Much more enthused by the Romulo and Reitz rumours.

And McAtee but is that a real rumour or just chatter on here? I've lost track!

Quote from: hovewhite on July 03, 2025, 08:22:47 PMCan't see silva accepting no improving of the squad by the club not going to happen
possible counterpoint could be can't see the club being eager to splurge when the manager only has a year left.
Make you right Mike. We've been down this road before. Manager wants investment in squad Board want commitment from manager. Club have a flush where Silva only 2 pair currently? Fancy Marco might bluff this one?

I don't think this is correct at all. We're building and continue to build a squad that is fit to challenge in the top half- players, manager, coaches, back room staff will all come and go, but it doesn't distract from the fact that we need an improving squad each year to be there. No one at the club is that stupid.

I think that argument would hold weight if we had a conventional DoF structure but that's a can of worms that everyone is tired of

I don't think there's any hard evidence we're looking to improve the squad each year. There was clearly a desire to get promoted, then in our first season back up, to improve enough to stay up. Since then, our improvement has been marginal at best (arguably non-existent), our net spend has been thoroughly unambituous, and whilst the were rumours we'd be loosening the purse strings this summer, it's already becoming clear we'll continue our strategy of looking opportunistically for cheap deals late in the window, rather than aggressively pursuing targets.

Neutral Zone Ultra

I really wish we'd move on from signing Arsenal and Chelsea rejects (in the case of Sterling, he's both).

Sterling situation is interesting. He's supposedly on around 300k, no obligation for him to accept a lower elsewhere. Hopefully he does a Winston Bogarde, and chills there while Chelsea haemorrhage money.

If we could get him on a year loan where we cover 1/3rd of the wages, probably wouldn't be against it. Had a tough few years but no worse than Willian when we signed him.. if anything Sterling is 3 years younger than when we signed Willian and he defo has a point to prove. If we even get him back to half the player he was in his prime then it would be a good signing
STH H3

No one like Leggat

I've been dreading him getting mentioned with us. He doesn't even look interested when he plays. A big Noooooo!

Considering he's an all out defensive coach pretty strange signing.

Considering he has pretty much a full squad already that has done very well the last few years doubt he is too fussed as long as he gets the players he wants in the end. Believe only just getting back for pre season training. Expect he'll want one or two the next few weeks but usually mid July we make our first signing so nothing new.

There's still not huge amounts going on at other clubs looking at the transfer list and some of them have absolutely massive holes to fill. With Tete signing we don't really have any. Left wing defo short but not of a starter. Basically just looking to upgrade positions. Fulham take their time when we do have gaping holes so no surprise they are taking their time when we don't.

If we bring in a Left Back as back up for Robinson either permanent or loan that frees up Sessegnon to play Left Wing
If it wasn't for the medication I,d be chewing on your skin

Same as always. He will moan, state something about ambition etc.

It's nice that he is so demanding of the board. But the board are within their right to be demanding of Silva.

Record points total last season, sure, but it should have been more.

Silva will be backed. He always has been but probably toward the latter end of the window as always
