Quote from: hopper on July 07, 2025, 02:39:39 PMDouglas Luiz played basically every match in the season they finished 4th, and has shown he's capable of a very good level.

Clearly last season wasn't good at all. It can happen, doesn't mean he's suddenly a bad player. He could be on the decline, but equally it's possible he could have just not settled in and return to form back in PL.

I don't think 38 g/a in 175 games is poor at all, especially for a CM where those aren't the stats to judge him by - but progressive passes, controlling games. He scored 9 in 23/24 which is 9 more than Berge and Lukic last season.

Reportedly last summer Villa didn't want to sell him but were in all kinds of trouble with FFP and did strange deals for amortisation/book keeping purposes. The Kellyman/Maatsen swap and Iling-Junior/Douglas Luiz are both examples where this happened.

Juve won't be holding out for that I imagine. If they were keen to retain they would be however.

Whilst I agree, I also feel like this link is just lazy journalism carried on from previous two windows. I'm sure we're 'interested' but the contracts and wages just seem wild unless we're really going to over invest our budgets into a handful of players, which, with our current squad, wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. But yeh, I just don't see this.

Juve are in a world of pain financially and need emergency funding of €15 million from owner Exor to make expenses and fixed payments, they have a max loss of €30m over 3 years and are currently stalling out on Jonathan David deal, which as a free agent involves no upfront fee because they cant pay the agent's fees. They are also under serious financial review from the Italian tax authorities. So they would take an on-paper deal for Luis below that amount for sure.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but taking the impact hit on that sort of loss of sale would make their position worse wouldn't it? Paid 50m ish for him, sell for say 30m which would mean they'd get the loss stacked on their balance sheet now. Not sure this would work out better for them unless they just wholesale everything and go into administration.

They will amortize his fee over 3-4 years (I cannot remember if 3 or 4 year deal). If we make an offer for €30 plus €10 add ons based on appearances etc technically probably can show a gain.

Pretty sure that only works on transfers in. On transfers out you take all the hit (or gain) immediately? I'm not a man accountant of football but that was my interpretation from other people looking at football accounts?

Angus Telford

Signed last summer on 5 year deal for EUR 50m. So amortises at 10m per year, so current book value 40m. If they sell him for less than that, will show as a loss. Eg sell for 30m = 10m net loss

Somerset Fulham

Villa sold Luiz in order to meet FFP.

Yeh that's how read it so they'd be worse off ok the balance sheet. Unless it's a wholesale towards administration cash flow sort of issue I guess.

Still feel like it's just a lazy hang up. If the wages are the issue he'll just get loaned out so some or all wages off the books and get a loan fee to further offset the potential longer term loss.

It'll be the last minute rush and dash to pick up any off cuts and slops left after the other teams have swooped in and had the better pickings.

Of course they ain't. Its not like we're a professional football club or anything.

Even one statement signing right at the start of the window could have really been beneficial and gives out a message saying that we mean business. It might then get similarly high profile players interested in coming here.

No signings so far gives the message that there is no ambition from an outsiders view.

Somerset Fulham

As soon as a signing happens, within about two or three days the tears start again.  It makes no difference when the first one is.

People just really, really need to calm down about it. Its not Supermarket Sweep or Football Manager, its real life.

DM

Despite how frustrated fans are the club are relaxed about transfers. Unlike previous years Fulham haven't lost key members of the team while others around them have.

Fulham will add players to fit & improve the team.

Relaxed gets you relegated we have massive holes in our starting 11 lack of goals from defence, central midfield, too many soft goals conceded no blocking allowing players to shoot unopposed, no tempo or desire after Christmas conceded late goals way to often
