Quote from: FFC1987 on July 10, 2025, 03:16:58 PMI answered it though. Khan, again, openly saying, you get the most value at the end of the window from both price, and options.

But that only answers it if you believe/assume that Tony Khan had identified a great strategy that literally no other club has worked out - which naturally I find hard to accept. Otherwise, there are natural follow-on questions, like why are other clubs better than us at getting good value without waiting until the late stages of the window, or if they aren't, why are they more open than us to paying a premium to get a specific target player and/or to get the player in early?
Spot on there Angus.

I'm going to stick to this being a silly season fun rumour thread. If you want to duke this out Angus we'll need to go elsewhere!  ::tongue::

Quote from: Bal_13 on July 10, 2025, 07:40:29 PMIn lieu of any FFC transfer news, it is very interesting to me how many rivals are being utterly picked apart.

Brentford, Forest, Bournemouth...

Puts pressure on them to buy well and do a Brighton.

I do think we have an opportunity next year if we can buy well. Speaking of, anyone know anything about Hackney?

Would appease posters who lament us never buying championship talent  ::thumb::

Realistically they will have bought replacements for those outgoing players before we buy anyone, and they'll be doing with a bigger budget than us given the fees they'll receive

Yes but there's always risk with new signings and disruption to the team.

There's a reason Brighton have the media salivating over their sell to buy model... it's because it's incredibly difficult to maintain competitiveness when you have your team's best players gutted

Quote from: DM on July 10, 2025, 03:44:47 PMThe club are not incompetent, they are not slow, they are not lazy or focused on other things. They are waiting for the market to come to them which is what they do every summer window.

Deals will get done & they will be on Marco's ambitious list of targets.
We also save a few weeks wages by signing late. Not insignificant amounts.
Two 100,000 pounds a week players for one month would be over a million pounds with VAT and  National Insurance taken into account.

Driving up the price, Bit worried after 3 years you can show all APs goals and assist in a 2 min video

Quote from: hopper on July 10, 2025, 02:00:39 PMI don't think there's any justification for us being last every window other than unprofessionalism from the club. While I accept that the outcomes have been fine, and that's the most important thing - it does nothing to help the manager who would love to have new players in at the start of pre-season. Some signings can arrive late and do well, but we so often see a player progress after a full pre-season.

I know there's PSR arguments etc; but we're last on just about everything - season ticket, pre season dates, kits. That combined with the diminishing relationship between fans and the clubs just gives the impression of a pretty dysfunctional operation. Supposedly the Jags also have this reputation.

While yes it's more important to get the right players in than get them soon, I really don't see why it's not possible to be able to do both - even if some deals are done later in the window.
The club under Alistair Macintosh has always treated the fans with disdain in terms of information.

Very reclusive. You can see what he thinks of "legacy" fans with the way he treats the supporters trust.

Not a nice man, despite winning "CEO of the year" lol

Hace you actually had a conversation with AM??
Not a fan of AM but both Chairman Mo and Mr. Khan have kept him on and they are not the most stupid of business men. He must be doing something right, if only carrying out company policy.

Do they actually no what the club are doing to bring in players. Doubt it, but it will be good to see how they pick the team, as they all think they are better than Marco.
In the late sixties to late 90s I don't think we were one of the most expensive clubs in the country to support, and I don't think season tickets were several hundred pounds minimum. I get your point to an extent but as someone else said it's 2025 now, we're a different club than we used to be and have new ambitions.

This thread's title really is a misnomer.

I don't think anyone has mentioned the interest in signing Luke Harris from us. The real "news", or at least rumours, is on the daily news roundup.

So with that said, what are people's views if we end up selling Luke Harris. Personally, I haven't seen too much of him, but when I have done, I have not felt he has what it takes to to cut it at PL level. He has something of the Sessegnon about him, arriving late to score goals, but doesn't dominate the match enough for me to think he could be a force at this level. He was not a regular starter at League 1 level for Birmingham. On the other hand, he is still relatively young, and perhaps a loan at a less ambitious Championship club where he would start regularly would be a last chance to prove himself. Then he'll either be good enough to challenge for our matchday squad, or will be worth selling for decent cash.

£20 million is a lot lower than I was expecting as the fee. Thought they'd be holding out for £30-35 million.

A bit of a mystery to me. Think he had injury problems at Birmingham which is part of why he didn't play very much, but was not really a standout when he did play either.

Would like to give him a season to prove himself, but a sale with a big sell on clause is also reasonable.

What are brentford doing

[David Ornstein] Jordan Henderson to join Brentford on 2yr deal. 35yo free agent after leaving Ajax - prioritised PL return & Brentford won race. Medical / paperwork over weekend - announcement next week out of respect to Diogo Jota + family

Well, to be fair from the mid eighties to the last 90s we were utterly crap and season ticket prices reflected that.
We're now in the top 15 or so teams in the country and we pay more- that's fair. BTW, my season tickets in early/mid nineties were over £200 when I was a youngster.
Mates down here have bought Plymouth Argyle STs and they're just over £500 for league one. For me and my son it's £1200 for our STs at Fulham.

Thought Henderson would try to salvage his reputation by joining Sunderland.

I know this comment may bite me with hindsight but my god Brentford really are downgrading their squad (assuming Wissa and Mbeumo both go).

FFC007

Given the fire selling going on at the mid table teams to the big boys so to speak, it could be a real relegation scrap for a few more teams compared to  last year.

As for us, heaven knows what will happen this season. Could be a rocky ride or an other top 10 finish.

I've never read such bollocks in my entire life.  Not from you IM, but delaying the signing out of respect to a dead bloke? **** off.😂

Don't get me wrong, it was a terrible, terrible tragedy but that is ridiculous.

Also. What on earth are Brentford playing at?

Jordan Henderson knew Jota personally and was seen at Anfield paying tribute to him the day after his death. If the announcement was delayed I would imagine it was at Jordan's request so he would have a week to grieve.

Not sure about any of the above but did hear something along the lines of Saudi Tax year finishing end of June or early July so nothing could be finalised until this time where Henderson is concerned.

Preparing to return to the Championship hopefully.

And bring back QPR, loved those games.

I find that somewhat more believable. 👍
