I had a conversation with a senior Fulham director at the end of last season. 

He told me very clearly that Fulham would not be making many signings or losing many players this close season.

He told me that Marco has a long list of targets and from that we are looking to bring in a midfield player, 2 wingers, a striker and if Tete had not signed a right back.

The club think we have a strong squad and only want players in who will strengthen us.

A priority is to get ESR firing on all cylinders and able to go 90 minutes.

Clearly the club are in no rush and will bring the right players in when the right players become available at the right price.  This close season was always going to be a slow burner as we are in no rush because we don't believe we need to be.

I was also told because I asked the question that Tom would not be going to Wrexham because they could not afford his wages.  I suspect we want to extend Tom but the sticking point are his wages which I suspect we are trying to negotiate down (I don't know this, just an opinion).

You can believe me or not, but it's 100% the truth.  I have posted this a few times and so far the lack of signings suggests, what he told me was accurate.  This person is senior enough to know and all I am doing is passing on what he told me.

Not if you account for losing Vini, Willian and Nelson going back... then there's still the unresolved future of Cairney.

Based on what stuinsalop said, at the bar minimum we're looking for like-for-like in terms of positions, but hopefully with the idea of upgrading with younger players or more pedigree.

Sounds roughly right to me too.

But yeah, if indeed we "only want players who'll strengthen us" we're probably talking 4 x £20m (average) signings there. That's a lot of big deals to get over the line.

The line "we are in no rush because we don't believe we need to be", whilst 100% believable, smacks of naivety and complacency to me, given the statement above. No we don't "need" to strengthen, but we should *want* to! Urgency and action can come from ambition and desire, they're not just signs of desperation.

We have also been linked with Harvey Elliot, not sure what you're on about. They've also sold arguably their best player to Tottenham and are linked with trying to sign Tom Cairney and Doucoure on a free transfer.

Harvey Elliott isn't coming back here after being reminded constantly by our supporters that they think he's a w*nker every time he comes back. He'll have other clubs on a similar level offering similar deals without that as a consideration so we won't be top of any pile.

Highly unlikely Grealish and Fofana are coming here either given likely wages and/or clubs with European football likely also in for them. We can put a bid in for Fogana but I'm not getting my hopes up. Grealish is a waste of time as someone will offer more wages and European football, simple as. My money is on him ending up back at Villa (if they can afford him), Spuds, Newcastle or maybe Forest as they are in the Europa and have a ton of money / losing MGW and Marinakis is nuts enough to pay those wages.

Our squad is in a good place though compared to other seasons and the only ones who have left are the older and/or fringe players.

Fully believe the post about us only buying quality not quantity (and agree as our squad doesn't need major surgery, we need to concentrate our finite but not inconsiderable funds on recruiting players who can improve our starting XI). Would have liked to have seen us sign at least a player by now but if we've got clear targets (which I'm sure we do) and their individual situations mean we have not yet been able to get their deals over the line yet for whatever reason (Club World Cup, their current teams trying to secure a replacement to free them up, whatever), then so be it.

May I ask how long ago you had this conversation please?

Wouldn't say 4 players in a window is a lot - most clubs will sign more than 4 players
I'd say the average prem club spends 100m a window

would love to see us get Malik Fofana but I think the party lifestyle has took its toll on Grealish.

I do like our squad
I am happy with 3/4 signings

I would rather ones of good quality
We simply have to get a better back up keeper
I think we need moneh spent on improvement CM & a winger

If we got a striker to rival Muniz & Raul its a good window

Not unexpected but absolutely gutting. Nothing we could have done about it but we'll prob get next to nothing now. Would imagine something similar to Osmond...few £100k and no sell on.

They usually sell a couple of players too. Hard to fit much more than 4 new players into the squad unless we sell first. As of now Silva is adamant in that he wants to keep the squad together so I doubt there will be any sales unless we get an extraordinary offer. And there is nothing to suggest we couldn't spend £100million on four players, we spent £80 on 4 (ESR, Andersen, Berge and Cuenca) last summer.

We signed 6 players last summer and lost 7 (Willian, Tosin, Ream, Ballo Toure, Palhinha, BDR and Rodak) players that featured often. This season we've lost Vinicius, Willian/Nelson and possibly Cairney so really only 3/4 spots that need to be 'filled'.
