Quote from: SerbianLad on August 12, 2025, 10:11:11 AM-get a versatile defender for cover. We only have 4 centrebacks at the moment. I'd get another one in, preferably someone who can play as a leftback or rightback.

Agree with this apart from the need for a centre-half. We have four, all of whom are plenty good enough, plus two left backs and two right backs, plus Lukic or Berge could cover in a real emergency (two injured centre-halves, and one gets sent off). Would invest in cover for them, rather than at CH.
I'd get someone in a similar mould to the players "big" clubs get as their 3rd choice goalkeepers. Someone who'd be there in case of some major injury crisis. Worth pointing out that Bassey will be out for AFCON too.

I think we have enough midfield cover:
6-Berge, Lukic, Reed
8-Lukic, TC, Reed
10-ESR, AP, King

If really needed, AP and maybe even King and Iwobi can play as an 8 too.

I think we have enough cover, I'd just get someone who can offer more than Reed can at the moment.

I think we definitely need a Reed upgrade- and to state the obvious- we needed it weeks ago.  Based on your 6/8 listed, if we had injuries or suspensions to both Berge and Lukic at the same time we are left with Reed and TC to cover both positions.  That is worrying. However I think Iwobi has done a good job as an 8 before so I guess he would slot in.

A winger who can take on defenders and cross the ball would be welcome and much needed.

I think priorities are a quality DM/CM, a quality LW and a 3rd striker for cover (if we had given Osmand some playing time last season he may have stayed and been the obvious Vini replacement without costing a penny).

We also do not need any departures- I think the Muniz stuff is all rumour but to lose one of your starting strikers this close to the new season starting would be a disaster.

Jims Dentist

If its true we are serious about Terami, I just cannot see the logic.
Fee reported at £10m for a 33 year old who has just had an indifferent season and would have no resale value.
Hope it is just paper talk.

Quote from: Bronaldinho on August 12, 2025, 10:48:17 AMMay be a bit controversial opinion, but 35m + addons for Muniz feels like okay business. He's still not had a double figure return in the PL yet. Appreciate he is 24, so right age for development, plus his energy levels and some potential.
To be fair to MUNIZ - I think if we actually gave him more game time - rather than mostly sub roles.
Last season he had 31 appearances - of which only 8 were in the starting eleven.  A striker not getting regular starts will struggle to hit double figures.  Give him starts and a good run of games and he will supply 15+ goals without any issues I believe.
I hope we keep him and give him the chance.

Quote from: General on August 12, 2025, 11:05:54 AMContinuity, competition and long term planning.

Nelson, Kevin are both young. Having an option on Nelson means he'd be ready made to replace or grow into the wing roles held by increasingly older players like Adama, Iwobi and Wilson (talking 3-5yrs difference).

Means we have angles covered, plus can remain competitive throughout the entire season and in multiple competitions instead of potentially falling off towards the end of the season.

Currently sess has to be thought of as a LB until its sorted.

You're also seeing Kevin and Sterling as simply wingers.. when sterling played in the 10 role as well as an out and out striker for City. Kevin could arguably play anywhere across the front line. Boosting competition.

Zinchenko plays LB, can assist and score, and also plays CM, so adds versatility.
But when everyone is fit, that would mean two out of Iwobi, Wilson, Adama, Kevin, Nelson and Sterling will be completely left out of the squad, that makes little sense to me. We already have two strikers, so they will hardly ever play there and we have even more options in the number 10 role, so I think versatility matters little in that case. I think an argument can be made for two winger signings, 3 seems like an overkill to me.

As for Zinchenko, I would not be against him. I think his best position is the 8. He had some superb games there for Ukraine. The only problem I had with your suggestion is the number of winger signings

Craven Mad

I'm hoping that the Muniz stuff is just his agent vying for a larger contract from us.

But, if he were to go, ~£40m is a good price for a player who's still raw/inconsistent, despite reaching his prime years, and is in the final year of his contract.

I'd absolutely rather he stays, but if we can get a bidding war between Atlanta/Leeds/Newcastle, then it might be a decent opportunity to find some younger players who could come through (eg Romulo/Pepi).

hopper

We're all talking a lot about Zinchenko based on what I think is just one article in the Sun. Not saying we're not interested, but that it's simply not much to be going on.

Really hope we bring in a high quality 8. Feel we need someone on their level who is able to come in with no dropoff if there are any injuries.

Thailand Mick

I have a hunch that Douglas Luiz has been our number 1 target this summer and zinnchenko will be the last minute option if we can't get him. I would like us to get Romalu whether Muniz stays or leaves. Kevin now looks like our first choice for the wing with probably Nelson on loan. Here's hoping.

Agreed. For me desperately need a box to box 8 who can score and assist. Im still praying for Luiz as looks like the Forrest deal isn't going ahead last I checked. Think they are going for Musah instead now.

Sounds plausible, but Vinicius barely got on the pitch as third striker. Difficult, therefore, to see where there was an opportunity for a fourth to cut his teeth. Anyhow, Osmand not having any first XI football last season wouldn't have precluded the lad from being our third choice this time around had Silva wanted to dangle that particular carrot (and which he may have done).

Muniz is likely to leave. A young ambitious player who hopes for a World Cup place is hardly going to turn down the opportunity to play in a champions league team which finished 3rd in serie a. Bergamo a great city to live in as well.

FFC should get as much as possible for the sale and reinvest in another young striker. Shame we sold Stansfield and the youngster who went to Celtic.

I guess we will never really know but the fact he was banging them in in the U21s and didn't get on the bench when we were down to 1 fit striker at the end of last season tells some of the story.  To be a 3rd placed striker you need to be either young and hungry and itching for a chance or at the tail end of your career and just happy to be signed to a club.  I would much rather the former.

Which will leave us with Jimenez.  Worrying.

I think we will convince Muniz to stay for another season with an improved contract, and the promise/clause in contract - that he can leave next summer (similar to the scenario with Paulinha). It is too late in the window to find a replacement and would put us in an incredibly compromised situation with only one striker at the club going into the first game.

Personally, I think we got a great deal for Stansfield - and I am sure Osmond was not ready to be second choice striker this season.

There's an awful lot of assumptions in there. One being will he even play and be a starter. Currently he's up against Lookman, though he has put in a transfer request.

Have to agree with this. Pull of the Champions League is too strong, and they'll offer him a much higher wage.

I could be wrong, but after a quick google, it's suggested their highest paid player is on about 100k so I don't think they'd be much better than what we'd offer?

Bassey the warrior

Quote from: v on August 12, 2025, 02:31:42 AMIn the ongoing Serie A transfer standoff between Atalanta and Inter, Lookman is forcing a move to Inter (he's actually in London training alone and is refusing to return to Atalanta) Inter have called off the deal and Atalanta are standing firm on a €50m price tag. But if this deal goes through, will Muniz be on his way?

Muniz would be replacing Retegui, a striker, not Lookman, so that would have no bearing on things. They got €65m for Retegui so plenty of dosh to fork out for Muniz.

Bassey the warrior

I'll reserve judgement on Muniz's rumoured departure until The Athletic reports it, and the same goes for getting excited about Kevin.

Even after Muniz's injury, I'm not aware we went into any match without either Jimenez or Vinicius in the squad.

If not Osmand as your hungry, young back-up striker, what about Loupalo-Bi? Further up the page, you remarked as to how Osmand would not have cost anything. The same would be true were Loupalo-Bi to fill the void left by Vinicius.
