Wonder if we will go back in for Pepi if Muniz does go (assuming we sell for more than the cost of replacement )?

Quote from: DM on August 13, 2025, 10:40:50 PMTaremi will be Muniz replacement, another short term fix but a player Marco has liked for a while.

If they can get it done ( looks Likley at around €40m + add-ons) then Kevin will be where the money is spent.

Targeting another winger as well but likely closer to Deadline. Nelson/Sterling still very much in the frame.

8 is also a target but not as pressing. They will see what comes available.

Good chance Muniz goes and Fulham could spend around £80m/£90m off the back of it with the bulk on Kevin.

All info passed through channels.

Firstly thanks for sharing, appreciate any nuggets of info you're getting.

Secondly, if the info is correct that's really demoralising.

I understand the striker market is incredibly tricky this year (and we're a victim of that with Muniz being potentially poached) but going into the new season with Raul and Taremi feels very underwhelming. And I say that as someone who pushes against this forum's bias / obsession with signing youth.

It sure puts a lot of pressure on Kevin (if he signs?) to offer us our next poster boy for youth and potential talent.

Nothing to do really but sigh and wait for the rest of August to play out I guess.

I'd see Taremi as essentially a replacement for Vinicius.

Muniz out, money then spent to bring Kevin in, albeit a different type of player but same age bracket.

Then either re-sign Nelson, or go for Sterling.

Well if that's where we end up I'm calling it a crap window. Barely any net spend, barely any improvement on quality, and no impact at all on the squad average age (except maybe to increase it, factoring in Lacomte).

And all very passive and reactive.

Quote from: demeant0r on August 13, 2025, 11:31:14 PMIf he really is the next Willian, why are we haggling over an extra million Euro? If he truly is the next Willian, we'll double what we paid for him in a couple of years.

It's still a risk and one therefore that should be negotiated. He's untested in the top leagues.

We got other players to buy with a finite budget + We are already offering a club record fee here it's not like we're not pushing the boat out already

True but when you make several bids and keep getting rejected (when the selling club already listed their price) you run the risk of the seller pulling out and wasting several days/weeks or getting gazumped by another club, days you could have spent on another target. And when you're 2.5 weeks away from the window closing, every day counts.

Sure, And equally you stand a chance of saving several million pounds. That's the game

In this instance some reports claim we've only made one offer thats been rejected and gone/going back into discussions.

You don't just jump and clap ya a** cheeks every time a club gives you their valuation or ya money wouldnt go very far.

Most negotiations out there you read about tend to get to a 2nd and third rejection before a deal is settled.

I don't believe we'd sell Muniz and have Taremi as a replacement. I'd love Taremi, but as a 3rd choice striker. He's 33 and he scored 1 league goal all season last year. 3 in all competitions. I said I'm currently against Mitro coming back, but surely he's a much better option if we sell Muniz and want to go for a cheap replacement?

If we were to sell Muniz (and I still hope we won't), I want us to spend big on a new striker. Someone who's in his mid 20s preferably.

Id want another striker in that instance

But Kevin is a potentially a signficant attacking young wing upgrade. He's also 22 (nearly 2 and a half yrs younger than muniz)

Nelson an upgrade on what we ended last year with, we did well with him in the team last year and were competing in European spots at the time.

Taremi is a much better player than vinicius even at this age, but agree that would be reason for concern if we didn't bring in another striker.

Would be surprised if that were the case though tbh. Doubt we'll let muniz go without another striker beyond taremi.

without 3 strikers on the books again ,considering their ages, Id have question marks around the window, but all hypotheticals at this point. Not long to see how it turns out, likely to be twists in the tail yet.

Loving the thought of Kevin/king/ESR/Iwobi/Wilson/Adama/Nelson as our attacking options behind strikers though at least.

I read an inter supporter that said they played Taremi as a second striker and he was always trying to set other people up instead of trying to score himself, maybe they just used him wrongly.

He had 3 assists so not like he was very successful at creating chances for others. Pretty decent sample size too, 26 games. In all competitions, 38 games, 3 goals, 9 assists.

Looking at transfermarkt, he played 25 times as a striker and 13 times as a second striker. He actually played better (based on stats at least) as a second striker, 2 goals and 4 assists, compared to 1 goal and 5 assists as a striker.

Again, as evidenced by this thread, I was very much for getting Taremi, but as a 3rd choice striker. Raul and Taremi as our striker options just isn't good enough at this level.

P. S. I don't think DM is right. I personally don't believe he's ITK, but don't mind him posting stuff here at all.

hopper

Looks like Taremi only played 805 minutes in Serie A, so that's not all that much.

Goes to show though that not all strikers are prolific coming on as a sub, and what Muniz did last year was hugely impressive.

Obviously got no idea what's being said behind the scenes, but losing Muniz would be a crying shame. If he wasn't our player already, would be a dream profile - young, with impressive metrics, value could keep increasing.

Another way of looking at it is like this:

I took a look at whoscored website, and he played the equivalent of 8 full games in the CL. During that time he got 4 goals/assist combine, given him a pretty good ratio, especially at CL level. He was used as a big part player in the league, he was mainly used as a substitute.

It was also his first season at Inter Milan. If you look at his 23/24 season he was injured for some of it and never regained his form of the previous 3 seasons in which he a achieved (I think) north of 25+ goal/assists and in two of those season I think 30+ goal/assists combine.

So the question is has he just had a tough time and his new club that didn't work out, or is he finished. I guess the club think he's another Raul or Willian who can regain his previous form.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Think people need to stop conflating and comparing Kevin with Muniz. They're not like for like and one doesn't come in to replace the other.

Kevin is, if anything a Willlian replacement. He's a winger.

Muniz is obviously a striker. The two aren't comparable.

If we sold muniz we'd need two strikers in this window, in addition to Kevin.

Marco said he wanted 4 new signings, so if muniz goes then we'd need five.

First State

Agreed on Taremi. The thought on him being our second striker is immensely disappointing and reinforces the notion that we've hit our financial ceiling. I hope there's more to it, but I'm not getting a positive vibe.

How does breaking our transfer record on a player signify we've hit our financial ceiling?

are there stats for chances created, I don't like the assists because a player can be heavily involved in a goal but because he didn't have the last touch he doesn't get credit. Agree with you on your last point.

That's 9 assists in 1887 minutes across all competitions (using Transfermarket data) or one every 210 minutes, a better assist rate than any Fulham player managed last season. Now to be clear I would not be a fan of signing Taremi, for a number of reasons, but he was quite productive from an assist standpoint last season.

I thought i read somewhere that Kevin can play up front, a bit like Sterling, so maybe a bit of emergency cover if needed.
