I've never really understood this take- there's a load of players we've had that you wonder why no one else went for- Saha, Finnan, Dembele the first, Palhinha, Robinson, Tete, Lee Clark etc etc etc.

I'm not suggesting he's rubbish or anything, I genuinely don't know, it was just me musing I suppose.

He is fairly untested and expensive. Clubs hesitant as his form could prove to just be a purple patch.
Form is temporary... Class is permanent...

NAPOLI would be willing to surpass Atalanta's offer for our forward Rodrigo Muniz...

The current Serie A champion, with their coach Antonio Conte, believe that the Brazilian 🇧🇷 would be the ideal replacement for the injured Romelu Lukaku, and they hope to finalize the deal before the next weekend 👀

This saga seems to have no end. 🫠

A better minutes-per-goal rate than Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Ian Wright, Diego Costa, Andy Cole, Didier Drogba, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Cristiano Ronaldo, Romelu Lukaku and Robbie Fowler.

It's why Muniz might be a £40m Champions League striker soon. And why Fulham should give him a pay rise and starting spot to prevent that happening.

Some don't rate him and say he's inconsistent still though. Another crazy stat.

'Reeks of West Ham'   I hope that still counts as London.

The thing is, he does his best work within 15 yards of goal. If he doesn't get any opportunities in a game to show his best work, he will look inconsistent, but he can't control that part. If he is compared to a player like Harry Kane, who contributes to the attack in all kinds of ways, even if he doesn't score, he will look inferior. He's not that kind of player, although he can also be useful at hold up and forcing defenders to make mistakes. He is more of a fox in the box with goalscoring instincts, and some extras.

Yesterday Gyokeres, who scored hatfuls in Portugal and many wanted us to sign from Coventry, had an ineffective 65 minutes on debut at Old Trafford. That doesn't mean he's inconsistent. I'm sure he will score a decent number of goals, but he too will probably fair poorly when compared to Kane and others.

I claimed he's not consistent and I think that holds true. Its the only reason hes currently worth say £40m, in a limited striker market where players with barely much more goals to minutes ratios are going for upwards of £80m. You can belittle that if you want, but Raul kept him out of the side for spells and Muniz started the season fairly poorly but grew into it. BUT main point, I actually really rate him and think that consistency will come.

Who would people rather have out of Nelson and Sterling? Assuming both are loans.

Nelson for me but wouldn't be unhappy with either option

I feel they offer different skill sets. Nelson has time on his side, he's quick and a direct runner with the ball, but his end product is possibly questionable.

Sterling has serious penalty box nous, but he didn't show it at all last year.

For a permanent transfer I'd go with Nelson, for a loan Nelson probably shades it but close.

Either for me but preference would be Nelson with the hope he stays fit.

More upside and longevity to Nelson but more risk too

Sterling for me. Marco is good at getting the best out of fallen stars.

Hope we sign him, but agree. Young with potential tax is so ridiculous at times. It can work and you can make a profit, but prices are set like a player has already made it when they still have it all to prove; and as you say is hugely risky.

Wasn't directed at you specifically. I do think the inconsistency thing is overstated. For some reason as a player his off games get far more attention than others, it's extremely rare for a striker to be on it every game. Even Haaland can go on long-ish droughts.

Marco loves experience and Raul has that and good leadership qualities, so I don't think it really proves a point on inconsistency.

There's some variance which is normal, but his goalscoring rate being as high as it is I think points towards consistency in fact.

I think @bencher has nailed it though in saying he's really all about goalscoring in the box and not necessarily an all round player. But in a creative front line he seems to guarantee goals.

Lets just say, in no way would I expect a striker, worth upwards of £80m, to be struggling behind Jimenez for a starting spot. That's all I'm saying ie difference between Muniz being a £40m striker to an £80m+ striker, is consistency.

In a nutshell.
Look in isolation at goals/minute ratio and he's ostensibly worth £60m.
Look in isolation at the fact he can't hold down a place in a botyom half PL team and he's ostensibly worth <£10m.

Truth is somewhere in the middle with a very wide margin for debate, based on no one really knowing how this season will pan out for him.
