Nelson is probably off to Palace

Strange - everyone was quoting £20m, £15m for his potential vs risk profile when it comes to injuries seems a lot more worth it, he was a livewire when he did play last season for us. Shame we aren't going for it. Strange that we'll pay £20m+ on a winger who's older and with a poor track record, and not £15m for a player we know and who knows the league and has clear potential within the squad but in contributing to goals etc.

Worth mentioning that Chukwueze is 6 and a half months older than Nelson. The obsession with age these days has got utterly ludicrous.

That said if I had to choose between the two there's not much in it, advantage of Nelson is that no AFCON and he looked really good at times when he played for us. Big question is if he can finally keep fit. Wonder if Palace will be paying the reported £100k wages that he's on at Arsenal.
100% this. To me it doesn't matter how old a player is as long as they can perform at the level required and leave nothing on the pitch after a game then how old or young they are isn't an issue. Imo

Quote from: IloveFFC on August 27, 2025, 03:14:43 PMGuys, how many you think that we will spend in this window?

Kevin and Chuck both will be around 65M. Maybe one CM around 20/25 million pounds? 85M or 90M i think that could be possible.

I think CM will be Mainoo on loan. So 65 mil maybe for the wingers
I Think United will not allow only a loan deal. Probably they will request a obligation to buy. The price that i see today was 40M pounds
It could be McTominay all over again, with us wanting the player and the player just not wanting us. I think Mainoo is far more likely to go to Europe with a buyback clause.

That said if we could get him for £40m with a £60m buyback (somewhat similar to City & Trafford), I would do that deal in a heartbeat.

Doesnt look like it

Crystal Palace have agreed a deal in principle worth up to £26m with Villarreal for Spain winger Yeremy Pino.
Remember you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.
I will be as good as I can be and when I cross the finishing line I will see what it got me

This was my introduction to Chukwueze, tearing apart Real Madrid at Villarreal. On his day he can be electric, but can't say I've seen him play regularly or know what he's like week in week out.

As an aside, what is going on at AC Milan, they have had a pretty steep decline in recent seasons. Nothing seems to be working out there at all. They've lost the aura they had a footballing giant; I know it's partly to do with Serie A not being so strong these days - but even within the league they haven't impressed for a while.

In short they had quite an unstable period the last decade or so Multiple failed ownership changes and financial issues in a short period of fime that meant that they couldn't compete in the same way they used to for the top talent whilst abiding by new ffp rules. Still won a title not too long ago but yes generally they've been a mess by their historical standards

I can really understand all this animated debate about potential targets injury records and how many games they might miss . It's reasonable for the club to be circumspect about gambling on them .However it also strikes me as odd that the buying late strategy means that any new signings will each have already missed approximately 10% of the season by the time they have settled in .

Where is the sense in that?

He's just guessing and trying to get ahead of the real ITKs. Same guy who said we would never bid for Kevin again.

4year contracts entering an already established starting 11? 🤷

It'll be really disappointing getting this far into the window and finally signing an outfield player before we reach 350 pages.

We are linked, on the verge, not close, in the door with two wingers. One was injured but is now fit. The other has played this season and should be fit. We also possibly, not close, on the verge to a midfielder who has played this season. So depending on the players. All should be ready. These are hugely paid athletes and I don't really believe they have to 'settle in'. That is an excuse clubs and managers make.
The above IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. It is an opinion.

We may yet hear the horse talk.

I can stand my own despair but not others hope

Loan with obligation for Chuku might explain how we're also attempting to buy Kevin at the same time then

Point taken but even if we make a signing today I doubt, under any circumstances that they would be playing at Stamford Bridge. I'm just trying to make the point that the club is more in control of when it tries to buy players. Our track record is pretty much to do so after the season has started which means they miss a fair percentage of the season. I understand why they may be worried about Nelson , with his injury record but our current strategy means new acquisitions also miss games

Bassey the warrior

Why are people moaning about signing Chukwueze instead of Nelson? They play different positions so we won't be signing one instead of the other.

Presumably if we've gone cold on Nelson it's because we're prioritising Kevin and feel a deal is close.

Quote from: SerbianLad on August 27, 2025, 02:33:05 PMAt the respective quoted prices, I'd rather get Nelson than Chukwueze.

Why? We could pay £15m for Nelson for his hammy to blow up again in October and before you know it he's missed 20+ games this season. Don't get me wrong I'd have him back, but I wouldn't pay an 8 digit sum for someone that I'm thinking is going to miss on average 30%+ of every season. Chuku was electric for Villareal, okay he's not done great at Milan but they've also been a basket case for a few seasons now so he strikes me as the sort of player that'll thrive in a lower pressure environment, especially since he's going to know Iwobi & Bassey so integration to the squad will be pretty easy

Because his output is better than Chukwueze, because we don't know he'll get injured again, because he knows the squad and manager, because he's a cheaper purchase, because he's younger, because he's friends with the squad.. because, because, because..

His injury history for the last six seasons, in terms of total games missed:

24/25: 27
22/23: 17
21/22: 12
20/21: 16
19/20: 20

You could deploy wishful thinking and assume he won't get injured again which would defy logic, but in every season where he's actually played games, he's ended up with a moderately severe injury every time

He's still got a better record than Chukwueze though.. perhaps we should just go all in on Sterling then?

Better record in what respect? Because if you're on about goals/assists, then Chuku has more? Nelson has 76 G/A in his career, 36 of which were in youth football
