Carborundum

Then Anselmino situation set me thinking.  A quiet window across the Premier League must result in some general categories of winners and losers.

The winners appear to be owners who have kept expenditure down and fans of clubs who have not had their best players prised away.

Clue: that's us.

The losers are agents, players hoping for inflated contracts and clubs that have stockpiled players banking on the idea they can find a bigger mug to sell them on to and who might be struggling to find further bits of their stadium to sell to themselves in an effort to paper over the cracks.

Clue: the Hammy End has a creative suggestion for the relocation of their blue flag that involves no papering over a crack.

We don't need him. With King, Kevin, Bobb, ESR, Iwobi, Wilson etc, we're more than covered, and with better options

Maybe unpopular but elliot is way better than Kevin, Wilson. If Wilson is off, Elliott is a major upgrade

Can't, he's already played for two PL teams this season.
I'm not bothered about him coming to Fulham, but I find it very unfair on him or any player in that position, because the manager won't play him, surely that is restricting his career.

Yep, some of these rules are so harsh on the young players through no fault of their own. If you haven't heard this one, this is reportedly what happened to a 20 year old chelsea player:

This Aarón Anselmino case is raising SERIOUS concerns about player management in modern football:

* Chelsea signed him in summer 2024, keeping him on loan at Boca Juniors until January 2025

* He played ZERO minutes for Chelsea's first team in the 2024/25 season

* Without space in the squad, Anselmino is sent on loan to Borussia Dortmund in summer 2025

* The defender earns his place at Dortmund and starts playing, feeling settled in the team

* January 2026 arrives, and Chelsea start looking to sign a centre-back in the transfer window... But they fail to sign one, specially Jeremy Jacquet, their top target

* After failing to sign a centre-back, Chelsea TERMINATE Anselmino's loan deal at BVB on January 26th

* Anselmino leaves Dortmund in tears and returns to London, he's now ready to play for Chelsea

* Back in London, Anselmino is told he won't stay after all, so in the Deadline Day he is loaned to Strasbourg, and Chelsea recall Mamadou Sarr from Strasbourg

And the moral of this story is:

Never Ever Sign for Chelsea if you know what's good for you ! ::wink::

They're not really comparable, Kevin is out and out winger and Wilson a pretty direct AM/winger, Elliott is more of a classic 10. He wants ball to feet all the time and more of a passer, he won't make loads of off the ball runs. He's also as mentioned not very athletic. Good player but pointless comparison.

Quote from: HV71 on February 03, 2026, 08:14:22 PMThe big , rich clubs - that seemingly buy anyone they wish to - treat young , promising players like Krill . They , like the huge whales that they are , just open their mouths and swallow all in front of them. Talent is taken in - some make it but others are left to languish. Okay you can blame the players for being seduced and ' taken in' but it must be hard to refuse the apparent golden opportunity.

The game is being destroyed by the elite - but everyone on here knows that

Society at large is being destroyed by the elite, football is a microcosm of this.

I think it helps that Kevin isn't a bit of a ****. Elliott seems to wind people up wherever he goes and has a Tosin-like view of his own ability. You only need to look at stats to see that Elliott isnt a major upgrade, in fact he'd be a downgrade:
Stats are for Prem & Championship only
Wilson- 274 games 66 goals 57 assists (27g/18a in championship)
Elliott- 140 games 12 goals 24 assists (7g/11a in championship)

So Elliotts played half the games, in the prem for a Liverpool side that routinely destroyed most opposition and produces figures way worse than Wilson.

The only upgrade that Elliott would be is age wise, but I'd still not want him.

Quote from: Twig on February 03, 2026, 06:00:40 PMThe lad has talent, that's for sure. If he could play the TC role then I could see a case for bringing him in. However I think he has always played in a more advanced CM role than TC?

Isn't he more of a winger? He's play 104 games as RW and 74 as an AM.

I never thought of him as a winger, he lacks the pace. Surprised he's played that many games out on RW. To my mind he's very much a Mid, it's just a case of which midfield role he's best suited to. As I said, for me the absolute priority is a replacement for TC>

Neutral Zone Ultra

Elliott is arrogant and showed nothing but disrespect to Fulham, and now his chickens are coming home to roost. I want my club to have nothing to do with him.

Lol they're 17 points ahead with 13 left to play. If they lose the title because they sold a play who's injured for another month then they deserve to lose it.

blingo

I wouldn't want Elliot back here full stop

well he really brought this on himself. We wanted him to stay
That's a little unfair if allegedly Villa won't play him to avoid making a payment, then that's not really his fault.

I don't think it is. We wanted him to stay, but he wanted to go to his beloved Liverpool and went for practically nothing. He then bad mouthed us. It wasn't working out at Liverpool so he publicly said he wants to play even if it's with another team. Well he then went to Villa and clearly he isn't good enough. He will have to write off this season and maybe he can resurrect his career with another team next season. He might have made it had he stayed with us. He also should think about getting a new agent

Good article on Harry W from the Liverpool Echo with Louis Saha and Danny Murphy putting in their tuppence worth

I find it interesting these pundits calling him the main man. Considering we almost sold him in the summer and his dips in and out of games for all the time he's been with us, I for one am still not 100% sure about him and if the goal contributions dry up I expect his starting place to be under threat from Bobb and/or Chuk.

Angus Telford

At the start of the recently concluded window, the Dutch club rejected Fulham's initial bid. On January 12th, PSV general manager Marcel Brands revealed Marco Silva's side offered €25m.

Fulham didn't give up and their last bid was around €35m, made towards the end of the window. There wasn't enough time for PSV to secure a suitable replacement for the American.

I really do accept that it's never easy and that circumstances may not always be in our favour - players may not want to come etc . However something just isn't right - it's invariably a case of " same old story - different day" .

Quote from: v on February 03, 2026, 01:18:26 AMWell, if in summer we're still interested in a midfielder (which I think we are) Atta looked good tonight for Udinese as they beat Roma 1-0.

In the words of commentator Dan Mason:
"Atta looks quite the player, covers a lot of ground, is a good ball carrier, has a range of passing and is a willing runner. Still 23"

He's also got a decent shot on him.

He was the one I praying we'd go in late for. Unfortunately his reputation is growing by the day and I'd imagine few clubs are starting to take notice. We could've stolen a march on him but I fear he'll go to a big club in the summer

You may be right.
Atta will have to keep it up between now and the end of the season.

He could be just what we need in the centre of the park and there will be interest from Serie A and even la Liga.

But I think if Tony Khan can afford €35m to bid for Pepi, he might be able to afford something similar (or less) for a much-needed midfield target.

Hard to argue with the stats, he's been our main man this season. Whether that will be the case next year, who knows. Key thing has been staying fit.
