We are taking a big and unnecessary risk if we get Arbeloa. He has coached Real Madrid youth for 5 years and Real Madrid B team for 1 year. It's a big step up to coach Fulham in a league he is not familiar with. We could easily get a more experienced coach.

He was just in charge for the biggest team in the world, coached the likes of Mbappè, Vini Jr and Bellingham. That's experience no other manager Fulham could attract would have.. Knocked peps man city out the CL (more experience beating Man City than 50% of PL managers) and no doubt gained valuable experience.

If this was Brighton, Brentford or Bournemouth hiring him they'd be called revolutionary (not neccesarily by you but some posters on here for sure would claim something along those lines), and yet for Fulham it's an "unneccessary risk"? This isn't directed at you specifically, although I would like to know who you'd prefer from the experienced candidate pile because most of them are just middling managers who won't really move the dials for the club. Yes Arbeloa is a risk, but he's learned from the best as a player, had a great career and had several years to define what he wants to be as a coach in the RM youth and B team setup. He will inherit a stable and mid-table standard PL squad that will need some reinforcements, for which he will likely have been given reassurances of signings to mould the squad in his image. It could fail, it could be more of the same or it could elevate us to new heights. We'll only know this time next year and perhaps some of the aversion to his impending appointment from some is that he's more of an unknown, but if we're to be ambitious as a club it's maybe worth taking that risk than going for a Dyche, McKenna, Lampard et al who haven't pulled up any trees in the PL despite having many chances to do so.

For me the risk is more around the club backing him in a timely manner to get the squad ready for a solid pre-season and hitting the ground running; he employs a similar 4-3-3 philosophy that Silva did so the squad don't have to learn anything relevelationary, there will just need to be some refinement of roles and expectations along with some new faces to bolster the team

Montella may well part company with Turkey if they don't get out of their group after defeat to Australia.  Ex-player inexplicably disregarded by Coleman and Sanchez.  He has decent managerial experience although mostly appointments of short duration.  Better bet than Arbeola anyway.

Don't think he was disregarded at all. He got a fair bit of playing time considering he was a Jan loan (backup to McBride/Helgusson and John was it?)
Think Bocanegra scored more than most of them!

I think Montella got injured in one of his first appearances and was used sparingly after that - as he was clearly still carrying the injury for the rest of the season.  Probably one of the best strikers I've seen in a Fulham shirt, but cannot be rated as such giving how few minutes he played.
