I'm not sure about this rush to sell Castagne...when fit and up to speed, I prefer Tete, but that is so often not the case...in any event I thought Castagne ended up being one of our strongest performers at both ends of the pitch last season, and was a strong performer at the World Cup....added to which he has the invaluable advantage of being very versatile, playing on the right or left, full back, wing back or even winger.

Of course, he may be off, but he'd a difficult player to replace

Bassey the warrior

Selling half our starting line up doesn't seem very wise.

Neither does waiting until they're too old to be sold for any real money or their contracts expire. I'm just glad I'm not in charge of transfers.

Seems to work for Bournmouth 2 years ago, sold the whole defence for £140m+ and improved further, only to then qualify for Europe. Fulham play things too safe and boring, need to get a bit of ambition in there

a quarter finalist in the world cup where he was a key player, and an international with Morocco - He wasn't either of those when he signed with us, his value should've increased. I think he's worth more than 10m euros, even with 1 year left - he's only 29 after all
A bit like your house or car General, you'll only get what someone is prepared to pay. I think getting 70,000 a week of the books is more important than the fee for the club.

I take your point, mine was more focused though on marketing the asset properly to see if people were willing to pay more (competitive prices) instead of just selling to the first team that bid for him. Other clubs hold on to their players until the last minute to do the same, why aren't we?

Also, if our books are so fragile that we need to sell a player for £8.5m in order to buy for 30m Euros then we're worse of than we all thought.

I think I saw someone quoting our PSR as actually being quite healthy this summer?

Also, getting £70k off the books for less may work short term, but if we give contracts to players and over the years they grow to be worth the same, then the financials still need to accomodate those higher wage earners.

We also probably want to buy or bring in more experienced players who can command the £70k salary on top of getting in Nwainu, so I think it's  bit of a stretch to say that's why it's important to get the deal done on its own.

With regards to Castagne I think he is a steady consistent valuable player to have in squad at right back. He did as you say finish the season strong but there were times last season when he was quite poor which tends to be brushed under the carpet. Certainly uncomfortable against good pace and the game he played in WC at left back was a disaster. Don't see what he can offer as a winger and not sure it would be fair on him.

Mullers OG

Main concern is Berge. Diop will, hopefully, be replaced by Newaiyu (spelling?). Either Tete or Castagne may go. We have back up with DeF or Amissah and probably a new signing.

Berge is a vital cog in the system. Difficult to replace especially at short notice. Looked really good at the World Cup. He may play better with better players around him. An improvement on Lukic and Reed would assist.

A new number 9 would be nice as well as support on the RW. Godo has shown in Strasbourg that we may have made a mistake. Can't wait for him to

Not sure why the goalposts have shifted but I thought the question was who do we think might get sold, not who do we want to get sold? Castagne for me anyway, wasn;t mentioned as a wishlist sell, but because he mentioned after the last window he wanted a move, so that desire is likely still there, on top of the fact we've been linked with a number of RB's as well.

But how do you know who has and hasn't bid? We didn't even know Ipswich had till it was announced. This is presumably a deal both the club and the player are happy enough with given what's on the table. If Issa wants prem his options are limited it seems if he wants to start.

It's not about "having to" but wanting to. We clearly like this new CB enough as an upgrade on both our CB's long term. Enough to warrant a big spend on him and this sale as it is helps our accounts for the year. If he comes in, we're not going to keep 2 CBs on 70k+ ahead of him. So one goes - that one is Diop because of the amortisation situation and contract coming to and end. Again - there is plenty of reason to believe Issa wouldn't be that interested in extending anyway...given he's happy going to a smaller club, but knowing he's clearly going to be a starter, I would assume that's the main thing he wants as this was rumourd when he was interested in going to france last summer.

IF we increase Nwaiwu's wages in say 2 years time, we've still saved £5m in wages on Issa in that time, and we'll be happy to do so presumably because it would mean Nwaiwu is performing well enough to warrant it. It also means timing wise by then we'll probably move on Anderson anyway + potential sales or promotion of a youth prospect. So that makes sense for our wage and financial structure.

Obviously it's not a case of desperately having to sell £8m to pay out the first installment on a 30m deal,. But we have no evidence of other people wanting Issa at a higher price whatever we think he should be worth. But as we're clearly pushing for Nwaiwu - Issa is heading out the door and will want to move on I'm sure quickly to his new team, knowing that's looking a forgone conclusion.

Given it's not been announced officially - perhaps there's scope for a last minute bid from someone, but I've seen no such major interest.

Let berge go. big for nothing, allergic to shooting, pass stats are misleading, think he has made about 2 forward passes in his whole career

You've clearly never watched him play for Norway where he was given much more freedom compared to how Silva wanted him to play

Please no.

If that were the case we coulda done it last year

Following another year of doing very little I think this is probably just lazy journalism making up a faux storyline around Silva

A shame really , before his injury he actually looked really useful and dynamic, but he really is too much of a liability

Clearly he was another that Silva really wanted if he's now pushing Benfica to sign him. Really makes you wonder about Silva's judgement if that's the sort of player he was pushing the club to sign while he was here

Danny Murphy still commented that he wished he would shoot more especially when in a good shooting position.
