This Club is an absolute grade A joke

Whilst fans will still defend our owners for pumping in millions, building the Riverside stand and sticking around for 10+ years, they are still an absolute grade A joke when it comes to transfers, and nothing will change.

I'm sorry, but they were foolish enough to think Silva would stick around, and when he left on the 11th hour, were left with egg on their faces and borrowed time.

Up steps Arbeloa, who we were apparently working with before he joined the Club to identify targets, have let Harry, Raul and now Diop go, have seen Garica chased and what now looks like has fallen through, with Nwaiwu going out with Trabzonspor on their pre-season tour.

You honestly can't make this crap up, every summer, whilst watching other clubs identify targets and close them within a couple of weeks.

Please get out of this club Tony Khan.

In 4 of the last 5 summers, Bar Palhinha which was much earlier, our first signing has been made somewhere between 24th-26th of July. Officially, the record will say JKA was signed way earlier this summer but in terms of new players we're approaching that now.

Seems plausible that'll be close to the case again between all the different RM players, Nwaiwu and Charles. Seems likely one will be over the line in July

ESR went on Arsenal's summer tour before being signed with us so whats the big deal about that with Nwaiwu?

I don't think the sky is falling in yet, but they do need to try and get some people through the door before Chelsea.

MikeTheCubed

  • Routinely the last club to make a senior signing
  • Routinely the last club to announce at least one pre-season fixture
  • Routinely the last club to unveil home kit
  • Routinely the last club to announce kit sponsor
  • This particular summer were the last Premier League club to know who would be manager for the upcoming season

Of course, none of these points in isolation are a guarantee of failure or necessarily prohibitive of success, but for it to happen seemingly every year is not encouraging.

Not that I'm on the alarmist bus here, but I do think we shouldn't really be comparing windows to this one considering we only just got a new manager with relative zero experience of running and the running of our club, the league, and having some experienced (with key statistics) heads leave.

I do feel like the club should be feeling the pinch (and hopefully they are and react to it) so a tad more urgency than any of the other windows would be very much welcomed, and required.

Let's see how funny you think this is when we are relegated.

It has been at least a couple of weeks since the fans have been aware of the clubs interest in Nwaiwu and we have been told he's happy to sign.

This fits our usual way of doing business and I get that a few million saved by tough negotiations is a big help but the pattern of late/non signings is there for all to see and it's hurting the teams ambitions.

I also get we are not in that group of prestige clubs that can offer more than we can and persuading players to join us may be harder but there're plenty of PL clubs of our type that out perform us in recruitment.

The clock is ticking (again!) but don't hold your breath!

Fair enough, I don't really think having a new manager means we should have made our first signing other than JKA quicker but it would be nice to get some quality numbers in the door sooner than last window that's for sure.

I'd like to see us get the first 1 or 2 in the door in the coming week or 2 ideally and does seem we're trying to make that happen. Hopefully Tranbonzospor find a replacement so they feel they can release Nwaiwu sooner rather than later. I'd like him at least to have a good amount of time getting used to our defense prior to the first game. Worst case there it's Luc DF first game up who had a good world cup but I think we all naturally aren't certain is ready for a full prem season (happy to be proven wrong)

We're definitely short on depth currently but not like we don't have a very capable starting side to field as it stands. Just needs more quality and depth which will come.

You're not quite getting this, are you? Whilst Silva was here and bought us time in the past, we DON'T have that precious time anymore.

Not only has Silva left, but Arbeloa has come in, albeit late, and was promised to be backed with early signings, which are not forthcoming.

Ad to this, Arbeloa's inexperience of the league and a tough start, you'd have though Tony Khan would've really pushed the boat out this time, but a leopard never changes it's spots.

4 weeks to go until Chelsea, Raul, Wilson and Diop out, no one in apart from a 19 year old lad who was here last season on loan, and we need 6 just remain competitive.

This doesn't end well for Tony Khan this season.

This says more about Silva than the Khans in my opinion.

Literally same stuff has been said every summer for the last 4 years at this stage of the window btw.
Not saying it's impossible, agree there is work to be done and I'd like a signing or two in soon.

But every year we've had people saying this stuff and making panic posts about relegation in July.

Spot on. We need an absolute minimum of 6 signings to even remotely be competitive.

We all know what'll happen.. four in on deadline day, of which the majority will be second hand dross that other clubs want to ship out.

Our recruitment is lazy, sub standard and worryingly non existent it seems.

yeh agreed, and actually getting say, 2 in by next week would go a long way I think. On your last point, if this was a like for like managerial replacement who play same styles etc, I'd agree with you but I'd guess that's not really how Arbeloa sets his sides up so I'd imagine quicker signings could be more urgent to fit to that.....or he's already working on current players who are better designed to play how he wnats compared to Silva and gets more out of them.....like Berge maybe?

The end is coming
The end is coming

If people keep saying it every year indefinitely one year it'll be true I'm sure. Maybe it's even this time we shall see.

"you're not getting this are you" is such an unnecessarily provocative way to approach a convo. I'm not a moron thanks, I fully understand the concept that Arbeloa and us fans would like players in early like all managers, but we do have a good starting squad that is currently lacking depth and could do with some upgrades - and given the club is by all reports currently actively bidding on players Arbeloa has asked for, with his agent (who is many of theirs agent) at craven cottage with week, he'd be hard pressed to moan if his main targets from RM he wants- aren't currently being let go easily as he'd hoped (like Garcia) or on terms beneficial to the club (Franco)

The "promises" were made to Marco on condition of him staying, but I too am not expecting it to be as late as last summer from what's been said.  But we have had major bids for Nwaiwu for some time now, nothing about offering 30m in mid July suggests we're dragging our heels there. The offer has been allegedly deemed acceptable; it's now seemingly on them to confirm a replacement and let the guy move. (the player continues to like every fulham post going btw so clearly he wants it to go through)

Current starting 11 (with Luc DF if not Nwaiwu for game 1) :

Leno
Tete Anderson Bassey Robinson
Berge Lukic
Bobb ESR Kevin
Muniz

Subs:
Lecomte
Castagne
Luc DF
Cuenca
Sess
Iwobi
Cairney
King
JKA

It's not really cause for panic stations imo knowing we will likely add 6 or 7 to that. Fwiw we have signed less than 6 players in the summer only twice in the last decade.

Anyway, by all means panic away it's the same convo every summer so we'll just be back and forth anyway, ya worried, I get it, I'm hopeful the ball begins rolling in the next few weeks, signs seem we're far from inactive.

Wolf

Bookies have us 16th spot - my May prediction.

We are in a better place now than under that moron Parker at least, but signing players at the end of August can mean they've missed 15% of the season.

That's the trouble when you believe all you read all out transfers in the media, as a Fulham fan you should know never to believe anything until a deal is done. As for Wilson the club offered a contract he wouldn't sign, Raul has gone to the Championship as no one else wanted him and Diop wanted a guarantee of a starting role.

Andrew

it's obvious things are not as they should be
it was my opinion that when Marco joined there was an immediate change of philosophy on how we did things.
However, I think that was a single season blip and we stayed well placed after promotion because marco was/is a genuinely top class manager.

Certainly for each of the last three seasons he complained about lack of support from the club just as other managers had before him. It was obvious he would leave this year because he could not progress the club and therefore his own career if we didn't make changes. TK made the absolutely astonishing revelation that they didn't think Marco would leave, everyone else thought it would be astonishing if he stayed!

We know nothing about arbeloa. He better be good or we will be in and around the bottom few very quickly. I suggest arbeloa could be out by/in november if we are struggling and a three manager season might be a good bet for those that like a flutter.

On the scale of one to ten about are we likely to go down, 10 being certain we will finish bottom three.... my heart says 5 my head says 7.5.

On the other hand arbeloa may be a genius in which case I reserve the right to change my mind.

All comments are my opinion.

Don't really buy that. If late signings were the reason for our middling performance you'd expect us to get better later in the season when players have been able to bed in.

In reality, that isn't really the case. The last couple of years it's felt like the manager, club and the squad have kinda let off the gas once we were fairly sure we weren't getting relegated. It's frustrating but it felt like it was a mindset that everyone shared at the club.
