With Lukic gone, we categorically need 2x CMs in - at least one before our final pre-season game.

It'd be utter malpractice to let the above go, without a replacement imminent.

Reads to me that Southampton will sell Charles to the highest bidder & are playing us & Leeds off against one another. Which is what I'd expect us to do in their situation.

Could mean that this one drags on until deadline day.

Quote from: JimOG on August 09, 2026, 11:01:27 AMThere is (sorry Bill I can't find that list of back-up staff but he's definitely there). Thought I saw signs of it yesterday with the very long ball to the other side of the 6 yard box being headed back. That's the one we got caught with in one of our friendlies
Alex Salvador: Head of Strength & Conditioning
Kevin Cardeiro: Head of Player Development
Francis Sanchez: Head of Analysis
Julián Carmona: Assistant Head Coach
Ricardo da Silva: Head of Performance
Álvaro Arbeloa: Head Coach
Borja Fernandez Freiria: Lead Goalkeeping Coach

They join Ali Melloul (First Team Coach), Colin Omogbehin (First Team Development Coach), and Geoff Warne (Goalkeeping Coach), who were already in situ at the Club.

Quote from: SimonDaviesEnjoyer on August 09, 2026, 10:47:17 AMA few things converging negatively on the CM front all at once. Pitarch is a kick in the balls (thanks Mourinho), and some "journalist" is claiming Leeds are back in for Charles.

As said above, we really needed one or both to come off, ideally fast.
Not sure it's Mourinho, I believe he has said he wants to stay and prove himself in Spain.

Sadly she wasn't

Didn't see this before. Interesting

Highly doubt we'd spend that money unless on loan with an option...and even then I suspect 30m is more than we'd be willing to lay out unless we made Europe

Soule can be very exciting on his day, tekky and can curl one , quite similar to wilsons skill set in many ways... does lack pace though.

Quote from: SerbianLad on August 09, 2026, 10:28:30 AMSorry to see Lukic go, for multiple reasons. Wish him all the best in Ipswich, same as with Diop, unless they're playing Fulham 😉 Let's hope the replacement is imminent and it works out.

On an unrelated note, you might have noticed that I've been a lot less active in the past few months (starting even before the WC began), but I'm perfectly fine and healthy (because recently I've had to confirm that here), it's just that the new job I got requires a more hands on approach and I'm not able to post as much. I'll be active on match days and I'll try to react to all big news as well. Additionally, I'll try to provide insight into any Serbian player we're linked to in the future, as I think I have more knowledge about Serbian players than most people here, so I'll make an effort, regardless of whether it's convenient for me or not.

Congrats on the new job!

£30m package is slightly misleading in terms of understanding what the exact price is.. a package could mean anything, performance fees, add-ons for Europe etc. Wish we knew what the real entry price is

I assume this has gone through quicker because the pitarch deal seems to have gone south

Still need another CM and one that has more experience in my books

We've a new manager, who's hardly got managerial experience, and is buying a lot of largely untested young players..

Weird we're backing Arbeloa so much and changing how we do business, when under Silva we were so poor.

Hi SL. Agree with Twig in congrats on new job hope big pay increase. If you are as good at the new job as you have been on the forum they've got a good 'un. Their gain is our loss.
Sorry your mate Sasa has gone but looks like you're staying with us.

I don't think we were poor under Silva. I always felt we were targeting more established, proven & experienced players who were looking for bigger & better opportunities.

The shift is now Marco has gone we are taking more risks with younger & unproven options.

We would not have got the 2x Spanish lads without their mentor being our manager.

Just like we would not have got Palhinha without Marco or going further back Saha & Steed without Tigana. Or Aaron Hughes without Laurie Sanchez.

There was likely fault on both sides when Marco was with us but I believe we backed him e.g I love Tete but with his injury record would I have given him a new contract? Probably not, but Marco wanted Tete & the club improved the offer & Kenny stayed instead of going to Everton.

@jolslover

Pitarch apparently was at Mostpur Park this week and Real have now pulled plug on deal because Rodri is not joining

Hope that we can revisit this deal once Real get a new DM. Perhaps one for later this month.

Rumours we may make a move for Manuel Angel (Arbeloas captain at Madrid Castilla) if we can't get Pitarch.

So I guess we'll target a right winger and then a centre back next. Although might be the other way around..

Side note, I think ESR's best position is on the left, it will be interesting to see what the manager goes with because that will likely change our transfer plans. Also interesting that when we had Willian, Iwobi played on the right, so we do have 2 players who can operate on the right and also 2-3 players who operate on the left in Kevin, Sessegnon and ESR (also Iwobi who is very versatile,Having said that I think Iwobi will operate more centrally this season). I don't know much about Palacios yet but I think he operates more centrally I don't know.

I personally think getting another central midfielder is more important. For me we need a midfielder (yes after Charles signs), a right winger (or someone who can play across the whole forward line with goals in him), and a centre back. So 3 players.

Report regarding Pitarch being at MP last week as mentioned earlier in the week on the board.

But Rodri situation has changed things hence presumably the hold up and now reports it may be off.

Dave kidd reporting that its still on play IF real buy a CM as they were originally expecting to

As for manuel angel, another super talented kid tbf. Seems like Jordan James is on the back burner in case but at a good price id be really happy with him as a punt

Not related to Pitarch at all apparently ,different profiles.

Marco was too safer manager to take risk, he made do for the most and would rather a hive safety and then see what happens, just lacked ambition and is evident in the players we have, the lack of resale value etc.

AA will take more risk, comes of course with risks, but finally there might be some excitement

So much for selling a midfielder and not replacing him.
Now comes the moaning- too expensive, too young, championship quality etc
