Sorry to triple post but also apparently Alex Crook saying James to Wolves for £10m looking in motion.

Think that's a bargain personally and well worth a punt at that price. Club happy enough with Reedy it seems but I would consider moving him on and trying to accommodate both JJ AND Pitarch if possible, albeit accept that might not appeal to Jordan being a squad player. But club seems locked in on trying to bring in Pitarch as their target which I get. Just hope it pays off

Fulham 1879

Totally agree. Jordan James might be better than Charles and it is a bargain price.

Agree I still think we are a CM short (Reed and Cairney need to replacing - but probably will happen next year, even though TC still offers something different)

Leaves us Charles, Berge, Iwobi for those deeper spots. (King maybe but normally used further forward).

Pitarch or JJ would have been ace.

Let's not undo the potential of the squad with too many changes this off-season! So often the downfall of a club, disrupting what works thinking finding better is an easy fix. We're overindexed on youth now and likely to be even more overindexed on youth by end of summer. We really need to make sure we bring in experience or at the very least keep what we have left.

We still have the 2nd oldest squad in the PL right now

Would you consider 50% under 25 50% over as over indexing?
This has already been discussed a fair bit but as mentioned were currently the 2nd eldest squad in the league, we aren't over indexed to youth at all.

Even if you brought in

1 more CM (Pitarch) would be competing with Berge/Reed/Iwobi/TC

1 more RB (Fort) Would be competing with Tete

1 more CB (Ait Boudlil) would be competing with Anderson

1 more RW (Nwaneri?) would be competing with Bobb /Iwobi

So all of those bar perhaps RW (if you dont include Iwobi) would still be competing with players 28+ for a spot. We would just have a balance of young and older options for every position bar striker which still features Muniz who is 25 and been in prem for a number of years now

There are so many ill-informed posters on here saying we now lack experience.

It's as if they just post their own thoughts all the time without reading anyone else's posts.

I have lost count of how many times Jay and others have highlighted in multiple threads that we still have experience and, as above, by btffc are currently the second oldest squad in the PL.

Can we please stop posting this erroneous nonsense that we lack experience 🤷🏻

It's factually incorrect

Hate to say this but yes I agree with Jay

We aren't over indexed to youth at all

Why hate it? No need to hate or resist common ground, plenty times I have liked or agreed with points you've made with no qualms. Whilst I might not appreciate the way our interactions seem to play out, and disagree with your interpretation of a lot of how Fulham are run - It's appreciated if anything and welcome when not at odds 🤣

So yeh, in this instance, I agree, and think the evidence is fairly straightforward to support that perspective. I don't mind a more established signing to maintain that balance where it makes sense generally, but we're definately not short of those currently, and financially the ongoing move in this direction has made sense.

Dave Kidd (fulham fan & journo) says we want 5 more by deadline day; Pitarch, RB, RW, CB & GK, and if we can shift Andersen then another CB. He's fairly well connected because I think he used to work for one of the major papers so would take that as an informed take

Realistically though - and thanks for laying it out the way you have - my main concern is how many of those that we have with experience and are older, are genuinely of a high quality for the PL and reliable on a week by week basis?

Cairney was a bit part player under Silva, most notably not playing as much last season as the season before... Reed hardly played, despite his Liverpool worldie, and Tete has been sadly injury prone (even though a top pro). That leaves Andersen, Iwobi, ESR, Bassey, Sess, Cuenca, Robinson, Leno and Berge as reliable outfield starters/players at this level (given we've lost Lukic and Diop and people want to get rid of Castagne).

A lot of whom are defenders.

Fine for a starting 11, but not exactly the depth. If we had brought in 3 or 4 players who were 23/24 who had two or three decent seasons in the PL/La Liga/Serie A etc then fine.. but - and I'm not saying I'm not excited/intrigued by those we've bought in and want them to do well (think Garcia seems particularly exciting), I do worry about the experience of the younger players we have and are reliant on.

Think that's fair

That's not a lot of options to call on for experience, especially higher up the pitch.

Bobb , Kevin and King have shown some good signs, but still haven't quite broken through - you could say the same for ESR (who I'm a fan of) and Muniz and possibly Cuenca too

The point is we could field a Proven Premier League-quality starting 11 over 25+. Regarding how many of these players have already participated in and proven themselves to be capable of playing regularly in a mid-table Premier League team:

Leno ✅
Lecomte 🟧
Tete ✅
Anderson ✅
Bassey ✅
Cuenca ✅
Robinson ✅
Sess ✅
Berge ✅
Iwobi ✅
Cairney ✅
ESR ✅
Muniz ✅
Reed 🟧 (I would say ✅ as he has played for us in the prem plenty in his time here but can understand others will disagree)

But given we are looking to find players we believe can be better than these and those who've departed, with upside ...we can not afford, nor register, 2 top-level older options in all positions all over the pitch AND also afford all these highly rated young up coming talents

So the alternative to the 14 experienced players listed above which is good enough as a base (almost all of which have been a part of Fulham winning more points in a season than it ever has before)...are younger exciting and highly talented players to add in, who haven't blown up fully yet to the point that we can't afford them anymore- with a view to them taking over and sharing game time with the more experienced players and, hopefully being the starters we belive they can be.

It's fine if you remain concerned but I don't really see it, given all the older players we already have, I would much rather us spend 20m+ on players with upside for a more sustainable model now we have that base we can relax knowing is there. I can understand someone being nervous about having no veteran striker at a push - if we sent JKA on loan and picked up a Raul-esque signing, I wouldnt be overly upset. But... it would cost way more wages which would hamper our ability to sign promising talent under SCR so I accept this way makes sense. Again we remain older than majority of the league so imagine how worried they must all be ha

Would like to bring 5 in but I think that maybe optimistic unless we sell a couple with decent fees.
