It's interesting because many on here are saying that the key priority is defence. However I remain concerned as to whether our three strikers have enough goals in them. I'm sure Garcia will prove to be a success long term but I think he needs to be given time without excessive pressure, to achieve that he needs a good back up and I really cannot see Muniz as adequate in any way, shape or form. Finally what I have seen of JKA suggests to me he would benefit from a loan to a Champ side for a season before trying to step up to Prem standards. Personally I would have lied to see us sell Muniz and bring in a different striker to be a credible alternative to Garcia. That plus a loan for JKA with a recall clause in case we suffer injuries would have been my preference.

Whether or not the three strikers are good enough is one thing, but at least we have three of them. The reason we are calling for defenders is there aren't enough of them, especially at that RCB position.

Realistically after being injured for alot of last year Muniz stock is down and not ideal time to sell him tbh. I'm not of the opinion he's not useful as 2nd option "in any way shape or form" cos that just feels incredibly harsh, his goals per 90 and especially off the bench, season before lasts injury ravaged one, were very good. Personally think the bigger issue was our attack around him was far too predictable and stagnated towards end of Silvas tenure. I suspect he'll get more service under Arbeloas system personally. He's shown capable of finishing well when confident healthy and importantly -actually getting service.

So I think if we can add Nwaneri or a half decent RW, then between Palacios, Kevin, Bobb and King as well as high attacking full backs like Sess/robinson and Castagne (+hopefully Bellanova) I think we'll cause plenty problems in attack with our fluidity and pick up goals between that lot.

As mentioned above, the issue with RCB is more glaring. Anderson is decent but clearly unsuited to Arbeloas desired system. Luc DF is seemingly not considered ready. So we're playing a LCB at RCB as preferance over either. Clearly therefore we need at least 1 RCB in before deadline as a priority because the hope will be that they become our starting CB

As for RBs we'd be ok if things didn't change there...but...ideally for this system to work, an attacking assist machine like Bellanova would clearly be ideal over Tete at this point. Someone with plenty recovery pace but who is capable of bombing up the wing which will further help support Gonzalo/Muniz

Red for Nwaiwu in 96th mins 😅

Is he trying to sabotage his career?
They are now, after this loss, expected to miss out on Europa League...think his price just came down a bit

To be honest, as good as he may be I have some concerns about his attitude as his head seems to have totally gone in an almost unprecedented manner since not getting a move. How many reds and OGs in recent weeks is that now? Admittedly haven't seen or heard anything of him before being linked to us but not exactly signs of someone you'd want in the trenches with you when times are hard.

Feel bad for the guy that he didn't get his move and seems to be feeling it but this is certainly not a good look for him. How would he be if something bad happened to him here if we signed him?

Not looking likely anyway so a moot point with regards to FFC.

Eh, Bassey has played RCB a few times this preseason because he's going to have to do so on Monday due to Joa's suspension.

And you've just summed up the line that leads many on here to that same conclusion that RCB is the number one priority.
It's not that I disagree about the importance of bringing in a new CB who is well suited to Arbeloa's style, I'm just equally worried about our choice of central strikers.  I do agree that we should have the personnel to spread the goals around and that offers some balance. However I am simply not convinced at all by Muniz and cannot see JKA is at all ready.
In my ideal world we should be getting a RCB in but at the same time be looking to sell Muniz (I do not think his stock will rise again, that ship has sailed) to enable us to get another striker in.  I see RB as less of an issue providing Tete is fit as Tim has slotted well into Arbeloa's system and if Tete is number two there is less stress on his body.

Just to follow up with this discussion about need for striker contributions and need for RCB.  I think we really need to see goal contributions coming from the likes of King, Kevin, Bobb, Sessegnon, ESR for this team to be successful and moving on the front foot offensively.  Sure, we also look for new acquisitions to contribute, but the existing team players have to start showing they belong in this team and league.

100%, our midfielders and wingers need to be contributing far more goals - it's unreasonable to expect the strikers to pick up the whole burden.

Anyway, feels like the rumours have been a bit quiet over the last couple of days?

Yes, goals needed from The Light Brigade.

Fair enough, I trust Arbeloas judgment on Garcia here to be honest. Knows him better than any manager. I saw enough in his opening two games to think he looks capable of competing at this level with the right service.
Top scorer at the World club championship, hatrick in La liga, Smart movement and good football IQ.
So we already signed a very good striker imo and as I say, I'm evidently more at ease with Muniz as backup than you are providing he's fit. JKA is more of an unknown quantity but I was enthused by his cameos for the u21s. We were unlikely to sign 3 strikers to contracts this summer with so much more business to do. Both Garcia and Muniz have shown that if the service is right they can score at the top level, so that's where my focus is. And with Attacking fullbacks and the system we have I think we look very capable of supplying the strikers we have.

Appreciate you feel more sceptical, and fair enough. Im far more concerned about RCB and then RW, for me lack of a starting RCB that works in this system is of much greater concern. Appreciate you feel it's more equal than that.

If Muniz stays fit and gets regular game time (even off the bench) I reckon he will provide his fair share goals.

There, I've said it and I have every confidence in him!

Porthogs FC

Yes - I can't think that we would have been able to attract a better Striker than the one we just signed. It's unreasonable to expect that's so.

Also, Bobb isn't going to play second fiddle this year, so I believe it's also unexpected for an income RW to really even compete with Bobb. If we did bring someone in, hard to see a way that it would be for until $30MM. I imagine Iwobi will cover this position when he's not in CM (which is really Charles' place to lose over time).

As for another CM, I just don't see that happening with Iwobi, Charles, Berge, Cairney, Reed for the 2 positions.

The place that looks like the most gains would come from is RB and RCB, to be frank. I think of Pedro Porro, and advanced RCB as well, and think those are the two positions that would provide the most "immediate" improvement in the squad.

There is always hope

Was a big fan when he signed but aside from a purple patch he hasn't lived up to my hope.

Fulham have signed Celtic youngster Erskine Rennie.
The striker, 16, has agreed terms on a three-year contract with the Premier League club.
It's understood that Fulham registered the player and applied for a minor's application with FIFA. They were granted an international transfer certificate to register the player with the FA.
Celtic will now be due training compensation in the region of £80,000.
