Another RCB an absolute must. Could totally undermine Arbeloa's whole system if we don't get someone in with pace (amongst other attributes, but pace is definitely key) - and AA sounds pretty wedded to that system.

Another CM also important. I know we have Shea in to replace Lukic but we are yet to replace Pereira from last season (could be argued, maybe, the idea was to bring Seth Ridgeon through gradually until he ruptured his ACL. Any idea when he's projected to return?).

The rest are nice-to-haves:
- RW would be good but feel with Bobb/Iwobi/Sess/Palacios/even GG has played there quite a lot, we can cover if we need to allocate more funds to secure quality upgrades/players better suited to the new system in key positions;
- RB I am comfortable with Chestnuts and Tete being able to fulfil that area for this season. Would much rather we spent well on better quality RCB and CM (even another RW) than dilute our pot for those players by shelling out on a RB.

For me, the RCB could be absolutely key for how our season goes.

It's all quiet, which isn't necessarily a bad sign.  When I asked AI about our SCR position, the answer wasn't especially encouraging. Seemed to think we might have scope for one more £30m player on a long contract before we hit points deduction territory.  AI is of course notorious for spouting nonsense, so that's taken with a pinch of salt.  But directionally it leads me to expect at least one more significant outgoing to be able to get everything we need to get done.  A new CB with the necessary attributes is an absolute must.  We haven't delved into the loan market yet and we surely will.  Chelsea need to ship a few out and the later this gets left, the better the deal, though cutting it too fine can backfire Tyrique George-style with deal collapse and inevitable goal scored at the Cottage.

So a sense of calm before storm.  Buckle up, the ride could get bumpy.

I don't think a Pereira replacement will happen. Esr, king, iwobi, Charles, palacios can all play there and bring something slightly different.
For me I'd like a rw, rcb and if anyone good enough is out there, a new starting keeper.

I wasn't talking about specifically Pereira as in his skill set being a loss per se, I was talking about as in replacing an actual CM with another CM (a 6 or an 8 in modern parlance).

ESR and Palacios are more AM than CM; King similar (at least at this stage until he hopefully bulks up enough to play in the middle).

We have Shea, Berge, Iwobi, Reed and TC for CM. Reed's been a good servant but time for an upgrade I think. Love TC and hope he's fit enough to get minutes, but he is 35 and has had ongoing issues with his knee for years. Iwobi does a job in CM but for me his best position is LW when playing with Jedi (although we have a lot of competition at LW now). Good player but he is not a specialist CM IMO.

My concern is if Berge or Shea gets injured we look very exposed given we are going be playing such a high line this season. Especially as the FBs are bombing on and a CM is asked to drop back in between the CBs who split wide when we have the ball. That CM needs to be not only decent on the ball but a presence and solid defensively. I just don't think we have enough quality cover of that ilk in the squad presently.

CB and CM are key areas in this system so much more important in terms of priority over another RW and RB (not saying I don't want another RW, but the other 2 positions are key).

Agree with all of this. I do think the RW slot is suited to a potential loanee, similar to Chukwueze.

I wouldn't mind us going for Joe Willock. He was I believe on our radar a season or two ago, but perhaps not of interest to Arbeloa. Rumours are he is going to Turkey, but I'm sure we could match their offer.

Are Newcastle keen to offload Willock? He scored at the weekend, and I was under the impression they'd lost enough first team players this summer.

They are. Amazes me how many people think Delap is a flop but Muniz isnt, to me they both are, difference is Chelsea know when to offload said flop.

Think some people here are blinded once a player puts a Fulham shirt on.

Whether one views Delap and/or Muniz as a flop is a matter of opinion but worth noting that they've played roughly the same amount of minutes in the PL and Rodrigo averages a non penalty goal every 198 minutes while Delap averages one every 341 (288 if you throw in his two penalties). Also, the £45-50M that Chelsea is supposedly going to get for Delap comes on the back of a 1 goal in 1100 minute season. Atalanta's ~£35M offer for Muniz came after a season where he'd scored 8 in ~1000 minutes. Think it's personally understandable why folks wonder how Chelsea can get that kind of money for a player coming off that kind of a season (and frankly with his overall career record). They (and other big clubs) seem to operate under different rules than clubs like Fulham.

Rule of thumb: if clubs in Turkey are after a player, then stay away from said player.

I think we could do a lot better than Willock (even tho he ticks the obligatory Arsenal reject box).

And speaking of RCB: if we go for a pacey RCB because thats what this tactics needs, then its should also raise questions over Andersens future at the club. Why even keep him if we dont think he is suited? But then again, these things should be thought out by the club in advance, and not something we have to deal with in late August...

Chelsea's approach to the rules has been discussed before.  Not content with selling a hotel to themselves, they doubled down by selling their women's team to themselves.  Fine under premier league rules at the time, not so under UEFA rules.  Seems that if there's half a loophole to be found, they will be giving it a whirl.

Apparently we watched Ait Boudlal again on Monday, I can see us biting the bullet and paying what Rennes want. Every transfer seems to have a starting position of 30m and now all these clubs know we need a RCB and we are not the only ones looking.

if you go to Skysports Transfer centre and go to us, 'Muniz's future among Fulham's business still to be resolved' is the headline.....Not seen anything about it, and they don't really elaborate either so unless I've missed something, is this just lazy journalism?
