Quote from: jayffc on September 01, 2026, 09:00:44 AMYeh if we get 2 in at CM then Iwobi at least does return to wide positions finally.

And to be fair, he's been one of our most productive players in those positions over the last couple years. Even if he seriously lacks pace and I question his pressing ability . We could do with his dinks over the top to our players running in behind so perhaps that at least becomes another more designated wing option without spending, if other decent options don't appear. Now Nwaneri is off and Soule sounding unlikely on the surface not sure what good options are out there that interest us

It's a bit hard to get my head around tbh. All around the squad we are focussing on pace and that's fine by me. So moving Iwobi out wide seems, in that respect, counterintuitive but I do agree that it hasn't worked using him in midfield. In the longer term I wonder whether we might be looking to sell him?

If we sign Ratiu from Rayo I think he would supply the pace. AA seems to like wingers who play as inside forwards and have technical ability over raw pace, so having a lightning fast RB and LB will provide that overlap pace and width he's after

Yes, that's how I see it.  Let's face it - the sort of winger we need (pacy, powerful and a goalscorer) appears to be out of reach, so it makes sense to put Iwobi there and have a quicker overlapping right back.

Manuel (Mami) Angel currently undergoing a medical apparently:

Could we see 4 or 5 players through the door today and 1 heading out?

Jack Kelly on stream just said that Aina is one of the backup targets if we don't get Ratiu from Vallecano.

Would welcome him back with open arms, absolutely ideal for what we need.

Probably more than 1 out? Tete, Kusi-Asare, maybe also Zepa.

If we're successful in either or both Angel and Larrson does it suggest we're looking to sell Berge?

I think it means Iwobi goes back to being a winger. Berge will compete with Charles for the DM role, and we will have two purpose made #8's in Angel & Larsson to play at CM and improve our ball retention and pressing

I wondered this. I actually wouldn't be against it, if we can pants-pull a club like United with more money than sense.

Quote from: General on September 01, 2026, 09:54:49 AMHave to admit, I would be up for Tomori -  bit more pace and experience. Played most of last season as AC Milan's preferred cb as they finished 3rd? They only lost 3 of their first 29 games, of which he was largely an everpresent. Would be a step up in CB for us and give the leadership we need. Doubt it will happen, but if we got him, Ratiu and Larsson in for starting spots and in a perfect world a RW too, then I'd be happy.

There was a post of FB that Tomori isn't in Milan's plans this season so this could have legs.

Not sure Aina would be suited to the style under Arbeloa. Not the quickest? Did like him and a good player with ball at his feet.

I thought we might try and do this earlier in the window but given they've just dropped £70m on Baleba I don't think we have the same leverage.

Quote from: Bassey the warrior on September 01, 2026, 08:32:01 AMIf we sign Larsson I'm assuming Iwobi will be moved forward, either to LW or RW. It's not really worked out in CM. If so, we'd have an embarrassed of riches in those three positions behind the striker:

Iwobi, King, ESR, Kevin, Palacios, Bobb, Zepa.

I can see Zepa going out on loan.

Then there's a question of which two start in CM from Berge, Charles and Larsson. Personally I think Charles has done enough to start.
I don't know but Iwobi maybe moved on perhaps we see some departures before the Door Slams closed.

It would be crazy to sell Iwobi at this stage. He is one of the players left in the squad who actually has some goal threat.

Quote from: Thailand Mick on September 01, 2026, 10:23:07 AMWho can tell me why it matters if a transfer payment is made in installments or one lump sum. Regarding SCR the transfer fee is amortised over the length of the contract.
i do not get the way it works but I am guessing that whilst the fee is amortized over 3 years it is the initial payment isn't it as that is cash flow form football so you would pay the 25 million upfront rather than in 3 installments and this reduces your yearly surplus cash or something. i'm guessing but no idea as don't understand and do not necessarily agree with FFP/SCR

Another Madrid lightweight who'll get blown off the ball.

Agreed in principle, but it looks like we're also in the market for Hugo Larsson, who at 22 (same age) has 2 good seasons as a starter for Eintracht Frankfurt and as a DM. He and Shea Charles, would be good. Larsson is 6ft 2 I think?

Think Manuel is a player we're getting in similar to JKA - more one of a squad player who'll play with U21s and go on loan potentially. Was castilla captain.

Maybe linked to Sacha Boey Bayern Munich, now in talks.

Ratiu now apparently about to fall through which has led to Boey link.

Can't argue with that apart from new system possibly hinders Tete slightly more.
