All over Twitter now Stekelenburg is agreed...

are we happy about this.  a good goalkeeper... better than schwarzer no?
Arguably better, but definitely ten years younger.
Arguably? Come on now - this is Stekelenburg we're talking about.

In his first two seasons, MS for me, was the best Keeper I`ve seen at Fulham, absolutely faultless and inspired total confidence in his defence, but is definitely showing signs of decline. Steklenburg would be an amazing signing.

Best to just wait for @fulhamfc to confirm, no?

I'm certainly happy if this is truly a done deal.

Still waiting to hear about that central midfield cover we're so desperately in need of, IMO of course.

Can't entirely dismiss Stekelenburg confirmation now given Stockdale's back on loan at Hull again. Till end of season

JackyFulham90

With Stockdale gone for the rest of the season surely Jol has something lined up as Schwarzer , Etheridge & Somogyi would be a tad risky

We can recall him if required.

What credible linkes have we actually had with Stekelenburg. He's an absolutely quality keeper and i don't expect we'll sign him.

An update on Steklenberg from goal.com

Fulham want Roma's Stekelenburg, reveals agent

The Cottagers' manager Martin Jol is a long-term admirer of the Netherlands goalkeeper who has lost his place at the Giallorossi, and could tie up a deal for the end of January.

Maarten Stekelenburg's agent has revealed Fulham are one of several clubs interested in signing the goalkeeper from Roma.

The Netherlands international, 30, is out of favour with the Italian side and is thought to be available for a cut-price fee of around £4 million. Stekelenburg played under Jol at Ajax and the Fulham boss is confident of completing a deal after allowing David Stockdale to join Hull.

But his agent Rob Jansen revealed that there are other clubs interested in signing the 6ft 6in shot stopper, with Arsenal and Barcelona both linked.

"We are working on some things," he told Goal.com. "It's true Martin Jol knows him well but there are more situations which we are dealing with at the moment.

"There are more options that could be a possibility but we are moving step by step. It could be by the end of January and otherwise we will pick it up later on."

Stekelenburg has spent most of the season on the bench after losing his place to Mauro Goicoechea. And Jansen admitted his lack of action means he is growing frustrated with boss Zdenak Zeman.

"It's a serious problem of course between him and the coach," he said.

"We are dealing with the situation with Roma in a very transparent and correct way. He's not made any final decision about leaving or whether he will stay there.

"We are looking at the market and if we have to act then we know what to do. The Premier League is one of the best competitions in the world so for every player wants to experience that."

He's 6'3/4 as well, isn't he?

Yeah. He's a big physical kid. Not the finished product yet, but he's got the potential to succeed in the PL

Stoke sort of player, big man they can pump the ball to in the box.

He's really a left winger though. More likely to be the one throwing it in the box.

I don't think Stoke would be a very good fit for him, hope it doesn't get accepted. He is a pretty skilled big guy, but needs the edges polished, not sharpened like they do it at Stoke...

YankeeJim

Shea is tall but I don't think he plays "big". He's not a bruiser as such. He is a decent winger but like almost all American players, he'll have to relearn the game.
Its not that I could and others couldn't.
Its that I did and others didn't.

Is he a bit like Samaras? So, a tall guy but maybe not as physical as he should be for his size?
